Chapter 24 Postmortem Summary
The top brass of the Church of the Evernight Goddess included thirteen archbishops and nine senior deacons, one of whom was Crestai Cecima. Lu Ze felt not honored but terrified that such a prominent figure from the church would come to see him.
"Didn't Lord Cecima come here for Old Neil's matter?"
"No, Lord Cecima came to see you specifically to examine your eligibility as a Nightwatchman of the Mystic Prayer Path. He simply happened to receive my report and decided to take care of the matter while he was at it. So, in every sense, Old Neil should thank you."
Dunn said.
"Then why did he leave again?"
Lu Ze couldn't help feeling a little confused.
"He said that after seeing you rescue Old Neil, the Goddess's sacred object has recognized you, so there's no need for further review." Dunn said this with a smile on his face. "This is good, Lu Ze, it means you've been recognized by the Holy Temple. Now, you truly have official protection, you should be happy."
Hearing him say that, Lu Ze did feel a sense of relief. But soon, he thought of the scene of Creste grinning with his teeth covered with evil spirits, and for a moment he felt uneasy again.
The joy of acquiring the property, the peace of mind of being recognized by the church, and the fear of Creste. All kinds of emotions swirled in his heart. He sat there in a daze, not knowing what to say.
"Also, since Old Neil is gone, you and Klein are still new. I'm going to ask the Holy Temple to transfer an auxiliary from another region to strengthen the team. Until then, you must study the mysticism courses on your own. Old Neil said he left all the documents in the reference room downstairs. You can read and study them on your own, but be cautious and don't try anything you're unsure of."
Dunn talked about the subsequent arrangements.
When Lu Ze heard that the occult course that had once tormented him was gone, he was happy but also a little disappointed. After all, what Old Neil taught was the real thing. Now that he was gone, he would have to learn on his own.
I hope Klein has a better grasp of it and can teach me more.
He prayed silently.
"That's what's going on. Luze, you can leave now. Remember to tell Klein about this as well."
"Okay, Captain."
Lu Ze stood up and moved slowly, while secretly timing himself.
one two three
"etc."
It came as expected.
Lu Ze turned around and asked with a smile, "Anything else, Captain?"
"Your welcome dinner has been booked for this Friday night at Old Neil's Restaurant. Oh, Old Neil couldn't make it, he told me he was looking forward to it."
"I remember that, Captain."
Lu Ze didn't know what to say, so he just nodded.
He was ready to leave again.
"Wait a moment."
Dunn spoke again.
Lu Ze was forced to stop, "Captain?"
"Remember to submit your proof of mental sanity. It would be best if you can get the materials ready for me within next week."
"no problem."
He turned and left again. This time, Dunn didn't call him back, so he was able to walk out of the office smoothly.
————
Nothing happened that afternoon.
Lu Ze spent the entire afternoon at the Blackthorn Security Company, reminiscing about it and taking a half-hour break to practice his gun. He finally came to terms with the fact that he was now going to own a house worth £900 on the outskirts of the North District. Finally, his heart began to lighten up. When it was time to get off work, he took the tram to the street.
When Cecilia came home from school and pushed the door open, she saw a large table full of delicious food, including fried foie gras, grilled steak, vegetable salad, stewed lamb, cream cake, a bottle of champagne and a bottle of wine, which had been opened and were shining temptingly under the gas lamp.
"Are you back?"
Lu Ze was pouring champagne into a goblet. When he saw her come in, he couldn't help but smile and said.
Cecilia looked at the delicious food with a bewildered expression. She put down her schoolbag, thought for a moment, and then asked, "Lu Ze, what are you doing?"
"Celebrate good things that happen."
Lu Ze smiled.
He thought about it all afternoon and finally figured it out. He really deserved this reward, so he should accept it calmly and use it to live a better life, so as not to let Old Neil down.
"Good things happen every day, but if we spend money recklessly like this, we won't have anything to eat tomorrow."
Cecilia tried to persuade him.
"Don't worry, sister."
Lu Ze couldn't help but laugh. "Actually, what I want to celebrate is your brother, me. Because I'm so capable, I earned a single-family house for you in one night!"
After he said that, Cecilia didn't look happy, but worried instead.
"Lu Ze, are you hallucinating again?"
Lu Ze didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
He had to explain in detail, but he couldn't tell his sister the whole truth. He could only say what he could. It took a lot of effort to make Cecilia believe what Lu Ze said.
"Brother, so everything you said is true?"
She widened her lovely eyes and looked at Lu Ze in surprise, "You are so amazing."
"Isn't it?"
Lu Ze couldn't help but laugh. Being sincerely praised by his sister was much more rewarding than being praised by a senior deacon of the Church of Evernight. "I think so too."
Then he clapped his hands and said, "Okay, what are you waiting for? Wash your hands and eat now. The food won't taste good if it gets cold."
So the two of them washed their hands, sat down at the table, clinked their glasses to celebrate, and then started to feast on the food.
Seeing his sister eating happily, Lu Ze felt happy from the bottom of his heart, and then he picked up his knife and fork and joined the eating team.
After enjoying the meal, the two of them immersed themselves in the lingering aroma of the food while chatting casually. They rested for a long time before getting up to tidy the table and wash the dishes.
"How's school going? Is anyone bullying you? Are there any ignorant brats trying to take advantage of you?"
Lu Ze asked while washing the dishes and looking at his sister's profile.
"Don't worry, brother. The day Mr. Dunn took me to school, he was followed by several police officers. They're all spreading rumors that I'm the illegitimate daughter of a high-ranking official in the police department. No one dares to bully me."
Cecilia answered while rinsing the foam off the plate.
"That's fine."
Lu Ze laughed dumbly, "What about studying? Is there anything you can't keep up with?"
"It's okay. Everything the teacher teaches is pretty simple. I've been reviewing hard after class. In the last class test, I ranked at the top of the class."
My sister's answer was extremely reassuring.
"That's good, that's good."
Lu Ze felt much more relieved. He chatted with Cecilia for a while and made an appointment to go to the theater to watch a performance on the weekend. Then they packed up their things and went back to their bedrooms to rest.
After returning to the bedroom, he did not lie down immediately, but turned on the gas lamp and took out a piece of paper from the desk.
Old Neil's incident made him feel a little bit of crisis. He wanted to take advantage of the free time tonight to sort out his current abilities.
I will definitely update early tomorrow.
