"RUN", I screamed, as loudly as I could, bolting towards the exit in a flash.
The zombie like waiter had now left the redhead aand charged towards us . His movements were mechanical and he made the same gurgling sound as Amber did in the footage video.
I was frightened . And more than anything, I was mad as hell... Couldn't even enjoy free food for one day.
"Whoever spread the rumour that zombies are slow walkers derserve to rot in hell ", said Leah, disgruntled.
We watched the outbreak unfold right in front our eyes. The redhead on the ground was slowly regaining conscious, his skin getting greenish and his eyes vecoming brown. Meanwhile the waiter had already taken down ths birthday boy and his girlfriend.
The redhead had gone towards the Pretty girl group who were in no condition to run because of their fringy dresses.
"Thanks Leah", I said ,"For the pajamas."
"Yeah", she said, without turning towards me.
Amaya ran towards us in the balcony along with Axel holding on to his dear life.
"What do we do ? What do we do ?", Amaya screamed, frantically still holding on to Axel.
"I'll call my father", Axel said, immediately taking out his phone.
"Your father will be quite useful in this situation ", I remarked, sarcastically. I took out my own and dialed Dylan.
"Dylan we are at the Kingston Hotel downtown. Damien knows the address. There's a full zombie outbreak going on in here ?", I told him, my eyes still locked in the hall.
Several of the people were now heading for the closed suites upstairs as well as the washrooms in the other corner, in order to shake off the half a dozen newly formed zombies in the room. The sound was so loud that we could not hear each other at all. Some girl threw a table of cutlery at the now zombified birthday boy as Amay screamed and ducked.
"I'M ON MY WAY ", Dylan bellowed, from the other side and hung up.
The number of zombies increased steadily right in front of her as we watched, horrified.
In one corner, the waiter with the cake stood frozen, the unlit candles on the cake casting eerie shadows on her pale face, as the party erupted into chaos around her. The balloons that had once floated cheerfully above the tables now seemed like ominous harbingers, their bright colors stark against the backdrop of screams and terror. Guests ran wildly, some transforming into mindless, flesh-eating zombies with each passing second. The music screeched to a halt, the DJ's equipment crashing to the ground as he fled for his life.
The sound of shattering glass and desperate cries for help filled the air, mingling with the scent of birthday cake and blood.
She knew she had to move, but her feet seemed rooted to the spot, her grip on the cake tightening . One of the zombies sneaked up behind her her eyes remained upfront, ready to grab her any second..
WHOOSH...BAM !
The zombie was on the ground. The waiter seemed to have finally came to her senses and she ran as fast as her legs could carry her.
I looked to my side. Sure as hell, Leah's gun was out in her outstretched hand which she immediately withdrew.
"You had a gun the whole time ? ", I screamed, angrily.
"I forgot ", she said, impatiently as Axel grew white as a sheet.
"Well then", Amaya said, angrily ,"Shoot the rest of them ".
"I only have around 5 bullets ", Leah said , as we watched ths zombie she had shot get up again ," We have to save it for emergencies ".
Slash. Gnnnnargh....
My heart stopped. The now-not-so-hot zombified Cashandra had discovered the balcony glass and was scratching it out with her manicured lengthy nails making a dull screeching sound.
Between the hall full of zombies and the ground which was fourteen floors below, were trapped.
"Shoo shoo", Axel whispered to Cashandra, as the screeching got worse.
"That's not a puppy, Axel. That's a ZOMBIE ", I said, gritting my teeth.
These rich kids I tell you.
"That is why the zombies did not go after his head. He doesn't have one in the first place ", said Leah, now slowly backing towards the end of the balcony.
"What are you doing ?", Amaya shrieked, as the door seemed to give way ,"Shoot her".
"No", Leah said, as loudly as possible ,"If the glass breaks, the entire group will come here ".
Leah turned and gave me that smile. You know, the one when you're about to do something stupid. I looked back and immediately understood.
" No ", I said , as firmly as possible while my heart hammered in my rib cage.
"We have no other option. "
"That's just another way to die ."
"We'll have to find out."
"Leah, we are not jumping balconies", I told her, seriously. There was nearly a four feet gap and the railing was barely a glass sheet. And there was no way , we would survive a fourteen floor fall.
Amaya and Axel however did not agree with me. They quickly moved towards Leah's side who placed one leg on the railing.
"You guys are seriously doing it ?", I said, as I heard a loud THUMP . Leah had already crossed to the other side.
Axel was next. It took him about four seconds to do the entire thing. Not that I had any doubt, the guy was built like a Greek god.
Amaya and me were the last ones. I held her hand firmly and Axel grabbed her from the other side.
She poised on the glass which was barely a cm thick. Her legs had started shaking as hell, and if we too were not in charge of her upper limbs, she would be under the influence of gravity right now.
"Guys, I don't think I can do...AAAAHHH" Amaya was now swaying in the air with me holding one of her hands and Axel holding another, screaming like a banshee.
"Let go ", he said, as he tried to lift her up.
"You let go, you handsome moron ", I screamed back .
"Lucy , what are you doing, let go of her now !", screamed Leah as I realised.
"Oh yeah, SORRY", I yelled, as I slowly let go of her hand.
After a few seconds of ear splitting screams ( literally ) and boisterous pull up movements, Axel finally managed to grab both of her hands and pull her towards himself. She was finally now standing on concrete floor on the other balcony.
"Lucy, it's your turn now ", Leah, said moving forward towards the railing.
I whimpered. I was the opposite of athletic. Besides , I was dead scared of heights.
The sound of breaking glass reached my left ear. The balcony glass fragments now lay on the side and Cashandra charged forwards.
Left with no choice, I hastened myself on the railing and grabbed Leah's hand for support. But just before, I could jump the gap , I felt a cold bony hand on my shoulder....
