Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: Why is she here?

"Oh, your awake!" Gideon looked at me with a surprised gaze.

"...Where am I?" I said.

"You're at the hospital, that explosion messed you up pretty bad." He said.

I placed my hand on my forehead.

Only to realize I had a bandage over my head.

"How did this happen?" I asked him.

"I think the doctor said that you were hit by a shrapnel from the explosion."

I examined my surroundings.

I was laying on my bed, right next to me was Gideon who was just reading a book.

I was in a large room full of patients in their own bed to rest.

All with injuries just like me.

"How long was I out for?" I groaned.

"Only a couple of hours. Your sister came to save us." He replied.

"How's the others?"

"Their ok right now."

I sighed.

"I'm...relieved." I said.

I turned to look at Gideon.

"What are you reading?" I said.

"Oh? uh it's about machinery and engineering and stuff. You will get bored." He replied.

"True but...why are you so interested in machineries? Just asking." I said.

"Oh well...my father was an engineer and a teacher in the university of machinery. He always built mechanical toys for me when he was away for work. I've always had a fascination with machineries every since that time." He said with a smile.

"Hmm, I guess he was a great father." I said.

He smiled further and pulled out his pocket watch.

"My father gave this to me before he..." He paused and his smile slowly faded.

"I'm sorry for what happened." I said.

"What!? No, no, it's okay!" He forced himself a smile, waving his hands around.

I scoffed.

"So you're just following your fathers legacy huh?" I said

He glanced back at the pocket watch.

"...yeah."

I couldn't stop but smile at his answer.

What a nice kid.

"Lukas! Your awake!"

I looked at the direction on where the sound came from to see Laura and Sabine.

They came up to me sat beside the bed carrying a small parcel.

"Lukas are you ok? What happened there?" Sabine said.

"Some assassination with the Grand Duke, I don't know really know." I grabbed the small parcel and opened it.

A wrapped loaf of bead, a flask a milk and apples.

"Yeah, we heard. The Grand Duke was murdered." Sabine quietly said.

"You two are awfully calm right now." I took the apple and took a bite.

"Well I thought it won't be appropriate if I come here screaming and crying. I don't wanna disturb the other patients or else we would get kicked out. They are really strict with visiting hours so I thought we would give something to eat and have a small talk before leaving." She said.

I nodded, still chewing the apple.

"By the way. Have the news told anyone on who assassinated Grand Duke?" I asked.

"No news yet but I'm guessing it's the Varian nationalist." Laura said.

"Yes, that's what I was thinking as well." Sabine followed.

"Varian nationalists? Isn't Varia our neighbor?" I said.

"Yes but we never really had a good relationships, especially the nationalists." Sabine said.

"Why?"

"Why do you wanna know? This is politics. Kids shouldn't be asking for adult stuff like that." Sabine petted me.

I groaned.

Of course she would say that.

I'll just have to read the newspaper then if I want to know more.

"Hey! Times up." A young nurse said.

"What!? It hasn't been an hour yet!" Sabine protested.

The nurse raised an eyebrow.

Sabine grinded her teeth before looking back at me.

"Alright, we won't be seeing each other in a week so stay strong!" She gave me a thumbs up before leaving.

Laura gave me a thumbs up as well and left.

I sighed.

"Why are they always so strict, I never understood that. Yes, I know it's not to disturb patients but still." Gideon whined.

"Well their aren't exactly strict, they were just following orders."

Right away, I tilted my head to my left to see a person in black trench coats.

It was those church member again!

Why the hell are they here!

I slowly looked up to see the persons face.

And realized that it was.

"Nina Kruger?"

She gave me a warm smile.

"I hope you're doing fine right now." She said.

"Wait you know that woman." Gideon said.

"Yeah, uh what are you doing here exactly?" I asked.

"Just doing my job." She replied.

"Which is?"

"Oh? You don't know? I thought you would be better." She tilted her head.

"Your here to interrogate me aren't you." I said coldly.

"Yes! I knew you would guess correctly!" She clapped her hand.

"Now can you mind going to a more private area?" She said.

I nodded because there wasn't any other choices anyway.

I got up from my bed and followed Nina.

Heading towards the hallway.

The moment I stepped on the hallway.

I saw another men in black, taking a smoke.

The man looked at me with cold dark eyes.

I felt a shiver run down my spine.

The man looked at Nina and they both nodded at each other.

I gulped.

They started moving and I followed.

Until we were right in the middle of the hallway where no one could possibly hear us.

The man was right next to me.

Whilst Nina was crouching in front of me.

"Well Lukas. Mind telling what happened that day." She asked.

"Mind telling why church members are so interested in this? Shouldn't the police be the one who investigates? Not some random priest or followers." I gulped, sweat dripping from my forehead.

She chuckled.

"That's not your problem. K sweetheart?" she said with the same grin.

"It is my problem because how would I know you're not with the Varian nationalists?" I said.

"Oh honey. Just tell us what happened back there and all of this will be over before you even knew it."

I felt a hand placed on my shoulder.

I saw that that man that was next to me was placing it.

Before he tightened his grip.

"I think this will be better." She gave me a cold smirk.

Then as if my mind was going delirious.

I couldn't stop thinking about the assassination that happened earlier.
