Chapter 9 - 9. Listen to My Whistle

The Wolf Cavalry's first training session was actually very simple: archery.

Most of them were already elite soldiers produced through rigorous training, skilled in horsemanship and swordsmanship, if not masters of every aspect. It was very difficult to further improve their individual combat abilities through training; this was the so-called marginal effect.

Therefore, Robb focused more on military tactical training for these Wolf Cavalry.

When the numbers increased, the tactical advantage could be demonstrated. If trained properly, these less than three hundred Wolf Cavalry could even kill three hundred Mountains!

However, no matter how much they trained their individual abilities, they would not be able to survive five rounds against the Mountain in a one-on-one fight. This was the charm of tactics.

Today was the first day, and Robb planned to imbue this team with what it lacked through training: absolute obedience to military orders.

Leading his soldiers on horseback to the forest near Kalin Bay, Robb raised his bow and arrow and shouted to the soldiers:

"Obeying orders is a soldier's duty. Now I announce the first military order for the Wolf Cavalry. Do you see the whistle arrow in my hand? This is my specially made arrow. When it is fired, it will also produce a whistle-like sound."

"So, from now on, when my whistle arrow is fired, your arrows must be fired along with my whistle arrow, no matter who the target is, no matter when. Violators of this order will face the death penalty!"

As Robb spoke, he saw that some of the Wolf Cavalry were still somewhat bewildered, so he immediately drew his bow to its full extent, preparing to give these Wolf Cavalry an on-the-spot demonstration.

Whoosh!

Beep—

The whistle arrow shot out, and a sharp whistling sound echoed through the forest.

The Wolf Cavalry's hearts trembled. They immediately fumbled to pick up their bows and arrows and shot their arrows in the direction Robb's whistle arrow had gone. Although they didn't understand the meaning of it, they just followed suit.

"Very good, not a single one of you fell behind." Robb nodded with satisfaction. "It seems you have fully understood the meaning of what I just said. I hope you will remember this firmly, because it will concern your lives."

The praised Wolf Cavalry also had expressions of pride on their faces.

Next, Robb led his subordinates back and forth through the forest. Whenever they saw prey, a whistle arrow would be shot out, and then hundreds of arrows behind him would follow. Few prey could escape such a dense rain of arrows.

Once the prey was dead, Grey Wind, the giant Direwolf, immediately darted out, retrieved the prey, and placed it under Robb's horse to claim credit.

"Well done, well done!"

Robb was in a good mood and praised repeatedly: "You all engrave your marks on your arrows. After we hunt today, I will collect all the arrows from these prey. Whoever hits the most prey will receive a gold dragon!"

"Long live Stark! Long live Robb!"

The Wolf Cavalry didn't expect their leader to be so generous. Today's wave after wave of monetary attacks almost made them fall into a money pit from which they could never climb out.

This money was so easy to earn!

All the Wolf Cavalry were secretly delighted.

The hunting activity quickly came to an end. As the sky was about to darken, Robb also prepared to lead his Wolf Cavalry back to Kalin Bay.

In the evening, Robb kept his promise from the daytime. He called the Wolf Cavalry who had hit the most prey to his side and gave him a gold dragon in front of everyone.

The Wolf Cavalry's hands trembled with excitement. This gold dragon could replace his armor with a brand new one!

With the rewards concluded, the first day of training passed without incident, even in a peaceful and calm atmosphere.

Everyone slept soundly, looking forward to another such competition the next day, fantasizing about how they would live lavishly after winning a gold dragon.

Early the next morning, Robb, as expected, brought Grey Wind and the Wolf Cavalry to the forest of Kalin Bay to continue hunting.

However, today's coordination was clearly much better. Robb's arrow had barely left the string when countless arrows followed behind him. The reaction speed of each Wolf Cavalry was many times faster than yesterday.

Robb was very satisfied with the Wolf Cavalry's current performance. Good, it was time to give them a small test.

When Grey Wind brought back another small deer, Robb did not ride on his horse. Instead, he dismounted with his bow to inspect the prey, then suddenly aimed his bow at the horse he had just been riding and shot the whistle arrow.

Whoosh!

Whoosh whoosh whoosh!

Most of the Wolf Cavalry did not hesitate, shooting their arrows at Robb's horse. The poor horse was instantly riddled with arrows like a hedgehog.

However, three Wolf Cavalry reacted half a beat slower. They were somewhat confused: Wasn't this Lord Robb's mount? Did they really have to shoot it dead?

By the time they reacted and prepared to string their bows and shoot, they found that everyone's gaze was on them. The Wolf Cavalry who had been beside them had tacitly moved away, encircling the three of them.

The three men were instantly scared out of their wits. They looked left and right, searching for Robb's figure, and stammered in panic: "L-Lord... I didn't mean to..."

Robb said nothing and walked directly in front of the three men.

Robb's face was expressionless: "You are soldiers making a mistake for the first time, so I will grant you a special privilege."

"Th-Thank you for your mercy."

"No, no, you misunderstood. This is not a pardon of your death sentence. I am giving you three the opportunity to duel. All three of you come at me together. As long as you can kill me, I will pardon you."

Robb's arrogant words shocked everyone present. Theon was the first to object: "Robb, you can't do this..."

"Shut up!"

Robb interrupted Theon, saying to him in a cold tone: "You are now a Wolf Cavalry. Remember your identity, and do not do anything presumptuous. I will not remind you a second time."

Theon was startled by Robb's emotionless gaze and fell silent. The rest of the Wolf Cavalry, seeing this, dared not say anything more.

The three Wolf Cavalry looked at each other, knowing they had no way out and could only fight for their lives.

Although attacking a noble was also a capital offense in Westeros, not acting now was also a capital offense!

Since death was inevitable either way, it was better to die like a warrior.

Moreover, they had three cavalrymen on their side, and the opponent had dismounted. The odds were quite good!

How could infantry fight cavalry? The advantage was theirs!

The duel began, and the rest of the Wolf Cavalry spread out, allowing the four to duel fairly.

The three Wolf Cavalry prepared their stance, picked up their long spears, and tucked them under their armpits. They charged towards Robb Stark, who was not far away, seeking their last chance at survival from the man who wanted to take their lives.

The warhorses thundered, their hooves sounding like surging lightning, but Robb, standing in front of the three, remained motionless, seemingly waiting to die, to let the long spears pierce his body.

The rest of the Wolf Cavalry's hearts tightened as they watched, fearing that something unexpected would happen to Robb.

When the warhorses were only five meters away from Robb, he suddenly moved.

He leaped high, and a red lightning glow suddenly emanated from his body!

Twisted red lightning coursed over Robb's body, converging towards his hands. The electric light surged, lightning shot out, gradually forming a red lightning longblade!

[Blade of Lansseax]

[A prayer that showcases the power of the ancient dragon Lansseax, capable of summoning a red lightning blade that sweeps horizontally from the air, with slashes that release lightning.]

Looking at the three Wolf Cavalry, whose faces were filled with expressions of shock and fear, Robb unhesitatingly brought down the red lightning blade in his hand.
