The voice rose from among the Romanos— steady, cold, certain. A hush rippled through the room like a sudden wind extinguishing candles.
All eyes snapped toward the voice.
Shoulders stiffened, every muscle taut.
Even the walls seemed to lean in, listening.
"We all know you're capable enough, Nico," Alessia said, her lips curving into a sharp, deliberate smile. She shifted her gaze from Nico to Enzo, the smile turning colder. "In fact, the family has no problem sending you and Giancarlo over there."
Her lips curled into a sharper smile, tinged with provocation.
"But since Enzo suggested it… I feel we should send Enzo."
Enzo snapped his head toward her, disbelief flashing across his face.
"Why should I be sent? Nico already volunteered. Why involve me?"
The room offered no reply, yet its silence roared louder than any voice, laying bare the truth everyone felt but didn't want to speak.
