Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: Another Dimension and the Rabbit

Outside, dusk thickened. The whole world seemed to switch off a lamp called "the Sun."

Inside Sawada Tsunayoshi's room, the glass-set light fixture still held back the darkness. Peering closer, he could make out a violet stone seated within the glass as the lamp's power source.

"A swords-and-magic world really does have its own magitech."

The magic-stone lamp said it all.

Unlike the modern world, which uses electricity to power its tools, this world draws energy from stones imbued with magic.

"If this world earnestly developed magitech, it wouldn't reach modern tech overnight—but life would get a lot easier."

Tsunayoshi was sure these magic stones filled many roles as energy cores. Plenty of tools could be built around them. Why the world hadn't gone further down that path… he didn't know.

He shook his head and let the thought go.

"I still don't know enough about this place. I've only been here a few hours."

It should be nearly dinner time. He rubbed his stomach; his internal clock was reliable.

He wasn't in a rush, though. With a bit of time alone, he could keep experimenting with "Monster Creation."

'I've tried it a few times now. Monster Creation really does manifest my imagination into reality—then one extra step to bind the imagined ability onto the monster itself. That's a little troublesome, but if controlled well it's actually a big advantage.'

'And then there's the question of "fixing" monsters in place.'

Finn had brought it up, and Tsunayoshi agreed it mattered. If frequently used utility monsters could be fixed, it would save a lot of hassle on demand.

'It should be possible. In the DXD story, Leonardo mass-produced types of monsters tailored to target devils with light-attribute attacks, and he kept records for other races, too.'

'So, fixing certain functional monsters is absolutely doable.'

'But since Monster Creation works off my imagination, a method to fix them has to come from me. Or maybe my Sacred Gear has a way.'

'Boosted Gear evolved alongside Hyoudou Issei's habits—Sacred Gears draw on the bearer's resolve to unlock greater effects. Different users can develop different functions from the same Gear; it adapts to the person and their wish.'

'So I should likewise make Monster Creation adapt better to how I act day to day.'

He opened both hands. A white-furred rabbit appeared on his palms—the same one that could exile objects into another dimension.

His senses shifted to gray and white, as if he were seeing another layer of reality. In that layer he could clearly see the desk's central portion—but from a doubled, uncomfortable perspective.

Like when you zone out and your eyes overlap the scene.

'Can my created monsters share vision with me? That's very summoner-like.'

'So… can this rabbit enter the other dimension on its own?'

As the thought formed, the rabbit in his hands wrapped itself in a translucent barrier—and vanished. Through the rabbit's vision, he then saw it reappear inside the gray-white pocket dimension.

It works! Even Tsunayoshi was a little surprised.

Once inside, the view wasn't only first-person through the rabbit's eyes. It also included an overhead angle, slightly behind the rabbit, letting him see more of the pocket's surroundings. But that was it.

The vantage stayed anchored to the rabbit; the camera couldn't detach and roam.

A limitation, yes—but a great function nonetheless.

'I wonder… if the rabbit leaves my room, can I use its other-dimension view to see into other rooms?'

Let's try. Curiosity piqued, Tsunayoshi guided the dimensional rabbit to the door.

The rabbit bounded swiftly and rammed the door—then passed through with ease, as if nothing impeded it.

It really works. Tsunayoshi's eyes widened. He'd only been testing the waters, yet the rabbit truly could leave his room, head elsewhere, and feed him a view of the corridor.

The only downside was that everything was in that gray-white palette.

Still, the novelty made testing fun—and raised a question.

Was this the "other dimension" I originally pictured? He'd imagined the rabbit as a tool for exile—throwing people into a pocket space—not as a probe with extra functions.

So this is a derivative of the extradimensional effect? For now, that was the only conclusion he could draw.

Looks like whenever I create complex abilities, I'll need deeper testing. Monster Creation might surprise me a lot. He gave a small shake of his head and focused on the rabbit again.

He didn't know much of Loki's sprawling manor—just his room and Finn's office.

Spying on the women's quarters with the rabbit would be… bad. His moral line wasn't that flexible.

So he guided the rabbit toward Finn's office.

The instant it slipped through that door in the pocket layer, Tsunayoshi saw—through the rabbit's view—someone's eyes lock onto it.

Loki.
