Chapter 9 - Despair and Destiny

"I'm sorry Mr Mayor, but we ran a few test and have estimated that she only have four days left to live, we have no way of helping her." The doctor said and bowed to Mr Hughsworth.

Mr Hughsworth was speechless, his own daughter, four days, it was unacceptable. The pressure built up until he can barely hold it in anymore.

He fled to the restroom and threw up in the sink.

He panted. Turned on the tap. He looked in the mirror. He smashed it. Then, without him knowing, tears irresistibly fell across his face.

The restroom light felt too bright.

The air ventilation sounded annoyingly loud.

He tried to wash his face but attempt after attempt, the tears were still there.

His palm was gripping the basin tightly, his breath became heavier, and heavier, and heavier…

The door opened, it was Fynnis. "Wha- Mr Mayor?"

Mr Hughsworth turned to Fynnis with his miserable face, "Fynnis Corretson…" he sighed.

Fire flickered out the lighter, lighting up a cigarette, Mr Hughsworth inhaled it, and exhaled the smoke.

"So in that ICU room, that girl lying on the bed over there is your daughter?"

"She is, but in four days time, I won't be able to be her father anymore." His face show a visibly painful emotion.

Fynnis didn't respond, he listened to him silently.

"Fynnis, I once promised the city's safety, telling all of you that if I am mayor, you all will be the free of tragedies. But now…I can't even ensure my own daughter's safety, she has stage 4 cancer, and no matter how rich, how powerful I am, I can't save her."he said as he covered his face in grief.

"Mr Hughsworth, cancer is something very unfortunate to be diagnosed with, i don't think you should panic about things that can't be undone." Fynnis said in attempt of comforting him.

Mr Hughsworth turned to Fynnis after hearing him speak.

"I don't have any experience of losing others, so I don't think I have the rights to say these but, you have to move on. It's the only way you can continue to live without being upset all the time."

Fynnis looked at Mr Hughsworth and said gently, "No one wishes to leave the world, but they also don't wish for their friends and family to live in depression forever because of their passing."

Mr Hughsworth lowered his head and extinguished his cigarette. "You're right, Fynnis."

He raised his head to show him smiling as tears flooded his face. "She wouldn't want to see me like this for the rest of my life. Thank you Fynnis."

"You're welcome." Fynnis smiled and said. "Well then, if you're alright now, I'll be on my way."

"Of course," Mr Hughsworth wiped his tears. He took a deep breath and walked into her daughter's ward to see her sitting on the bed reading a book.

 "Cellia, my daughter, I'm here."

"Dad! You finally came! I waited for you for a long time!"she pouted.

"Yeah, my bad. I was doing stuff." Mr Hughsworth smiled weakly, still feeling a little sad.

"Cellia," he hesitated a bit and said. "I have something I want to tell you…"

"That I have stage 4 cancer?"

"Wha-no, I-"

Cellia giggled, "Don't worry dad, I more or less had a hunch, and I guess I was right."her smiling slowly fading.

"…Cellia, sweetie. I'm sorry," Mr Hughsworth's voice slightly broke, "I'm sorry I couldn't protect you, you had a bright future, you got accepted to Cambridge, but now…"

"Dad!"she lightly slapped his face, "Don't think of that! I'm still here right?"

"Cellia…" he said in confusion and sadness.

"Sure I'm going to die in a few days, but doesn't that mean we should spend more time together? What you say we go to that theme park I have been begging to go since I was 7, dad?"

Tears flowed out from his eyes again, but this time it wasn't grief or fear, but moved emotions.

"Sure."

Outside the ward, Fynnis overheard their conversation. "They have such a wholesome relationship. God, I really hope I can do something for them!"he thought.

"God…that's right. I'm going to be god. But do I actually want to?"he thought for a bit, then looked at Mr Hughsworth and his daughter.

"I guess I'll go with what feels right."he brushed off the thought and went to meet up with Lucia and the others.

"What took you so long? You said you were gonna wash your face!" Lucia yelled.

"Dad! You finally came! I waited for you for a long time!" Lucia's sentence reminded him of Cellia's pouting.

He sighed and smiled, "Nah, just got a bit lost."

"So, I contacted the other gods just now and we planned a meeting at about half an hour from now." Montell explained.

"Really? How'd you contact them?" Kallyne asked.

 "I got a phone."

Kallyne confusingly looked at Montell.

"What? I'm still human."Montell said calmly.

"I mean that's kinda disappointing considering you are a god." Kallyne sighed.

"The hell is a phone?" Lucia asked.

 The room went awkwardly silence.

"Anyways," Montell broke the silence and said, "Fynnis, go prepare your stuff, we're off in half an hour, remember?"

"Oh yeah right!" Fynnis picked up his bag and hanged it on his shoulder.

"Hey, Montell." Lucia hesitated and said, "Can I tag along? I mean, it was my responsibility to give Fynnis the throne, so I wanna help retrieve the ring."

Fynnis stared at Lucia, "Lucia…"he breathed out.

Lucia turned her eyes to Fynnis, "I guess this is also a repayment for you saving me."her face slightly turned peach red as she smiled widely.

Fynnis blushed a little at seeing her smile, then mocked her, "You sure? Hopefully you don't chicken out."

"Heh, who do you think you are looking at? I'm practically a skilled fighter!"she bragged proudly.

Kallyne broke their conversation and said, "Yeah but, Lucia is still injured."

"Don't worry, elves have a really fast regenerating ability."he said as he unwrapped Lucia's injured hand, showing it to not be injured at all.

Fynnis gasped in admiration, "Woah that's fast."

"So two of you are coming wi-"

"Wait! I wanna go too!" Kallyne suddenly shouted. "Of course I won't help fight or anything like that, I just wanna see what Heaven looks like! I wanna see the magical scenery, the…"

"She is such a yapper." Montell thought, "Fine, fine, you are all coming."

 "Yay!"

"Alright then, we better be going off now." Montell got up and dusted off his clothes. "Hold tight."

"Wait what do you me-" without finishing his sentence, Montell lifted his hands. Suddenly, Fynnis, Lucia and Kallyne was lifted by oddly shaped water tentacles and pulled out the hospital room.

"What the-Montell!" Fynnis yelled in utter shock.

"Ooh, cool transport." Lucia was amazed by it, but not as amazed as Kallyne.

"THIS IS SO AMAZING!!" Kallyne screeched.

Under the big blue sky, they took their first ever trip to Heaven, after about 15 minutes, they had went over the clouds and arrived in front of a great white gate door.

Montell stepped forward, "Allow me." He stood in front of the gate door and cleared his throat.

"Unchain."

The gate door rumbled, the door slowly opened, and a bright light shone from inside.

"Welcome to Heaven."
