Chapter 22 - Strange Smell

Fenrir, who had just gotten back to Chen Xuan, looked up at him with curiosity.

Despite his reservations, however, Chen Xuan had no plan of stopping Fenrir from exploring the source of the blood stench.

Looking down at Fenrir, Chen Xuan gently lowered one of his branches until it rested just above Fenrir's head.

In response to this, Fenrir looked up at Chen Xuan curiously, able to tell from their connection that Chen Xuan had no plans of hunting him, along with his increased mental capacity from the breakthroughs.

What Fenrir saw was two flowers moving swiftly to the tip of his lowered branch.

Suddenly, in Fenrir's view, everything stilled; the world froze for a moment as the two flowers slowly connected to his head, attaching firmly yet not painfully.

Fenrir felt no pain from the actions of Chen Xuan, only a faint tingling in his head for a few moments.

After a moment, Chen Xuan pulled back, revealing Fenrir below, who now had two flowers attached to his head.

One of each flower was on either side of his head, just behind his ears. One of the flowers was a deep crimson color. This one was Chen Xuan's flower that instilled fear into opponents, causing more clumsy or delayed reactions.

On the other side was a flower of black and white, petals alternating between the two. In the center were deep and intricate patterns of black and white.

These two flowers were currently furled up and closed but still emanated a faint threat to those with keen enough senses.

These were Chen Xuan's insurance policy; despite his decreased control and his inability to supply them with energy, the flowers would still work.

The flowers had a stored amount of energy naturally; this would be enough to activate the flowers once or twice if he pushed it.

With these flowers now accompanying Fenrir, Chen Xuan felt more at ease, sending a signal to Fenrir—in short—telling him that he could go now.

Happy, Fenrir licked Chen Xuan's branch lightly before bounding off into the forest, glad he got permission.

Chen Xuan, on the other hand, shared the senses of Fenrir, able to see, hear, smell, and taste when Fenrir could. The only difference was the strength of these senses.

Chen Xuan watched as Fenrir ran around the general area until he managed to pick up that scent once more, the smell making Fenrir excited for some reason while Chen Xuan felt a slight unease and repulsion.

Despite his own off sense of repulsion, Chen Xuanndidnt stop Fenrir as he quickly ran towards the source of the scent. The smell grew stronger and stronger, making Chen Xuan feel an odd sense of hesitation.

"What is this feeling?"

Chen Xuan thought to himself as he watched Fenrir quickly approaching the source.

Finally, fenrir approached just to the point where he could see it. It was a large hole in the side of a hillside, looking like a large yet shallow cave. The entrance enshouded in some shrubbery but with Fenrirs vision, he could tell that a cave lay behind the bushes.

The entrance seemed large, seemingnto be able to fit two larger wolves of fenrirs size side by side and still have a small bit left to maneuver.

Alongside the large cave say a few smaller entrances, each concealed by bushes or fallen trees.

As Fenrir stood a few meters from the main cave entrance, the smell of blood was intense. All of the blood smell had mostly only this large entrance to escape from, making the scent very pungent.

Fenrir meanwhile, was stood outside, slightly hesitant, its senses giving it a slight bad feeling.

To fenrir however, with the protection of Chen Xuans flowers, gave him the confidence, approaching a bit closer, allowing him to see into the entrance.

The insides of the cave were covered in a dense moss, making the walls looks soft and calming.

The cave seemed to be less than 10 meters long, with two large figures seem laying along with other far smaller ones.

Sensing the gaze of Fenrir, the two large wolves looked up, their bright amber eyes glaring with the darkness of the small cave.

Immediately, the large wolf let out a long howl, reverberating out of the cave and spreading throughout the area, entering the ears of the wolves within the surrounding caves.

Without hesitation, the pack of the large wolf responded immediately, bounding out from withinnthe caves. The remaining 17 wolves coming out of the caves and rushing to the entrance of the alphas cave.

Each of the wolves larger than normal yet smaller than fenrir, however, every one of them growled without fear.

The confidence gained from having multiple comrades together allowed them to growl at Fenrir despite the faint threat they felt from Fenrir.

The only thing that stopped them at this moment was an order from the leader.

The leader however, was hesitant. He was stood just in front of Fenrir, yet gave no orders.

Unlike the other wolves, the pack leader could feel the threat more evidently. It could tell that just inside the bulb on Fenrirs head, was a stronger force than it appeared.

A few moments later, the wolf barked, causing the wolves at the entrance to tilt their heads, but still complied, creating a gap for Fenrir.

Immediately after, the leader let out a low and threatening growl at Fenrir. It wasn't that it was scared, but that the risk wasn't worth it.

With that, Fenrir turned around and walked out of the cave while keeping a constant watch on his surroundings.

Truth was, Fenrir was feeling quite scared at that moment, he main thing giving him confidence was Chen Xuans gift.

Despite not being able to find the source of the blood, Fenrir didn't mind, walking slowly from the cave, while the wolf pack stared him down.
