The questions Zhang Jie and Jin Kaide posed were too complex; this one delves into deep philosophical territory, and how to resolve it completely depends on your perspective.
Actually, for Zhang Jie, both questions were very simple.
This was essentially an alternative trolley problem, testing human morality.
And Zhang Jie and Jin Kaide themselves were assassins, so this question wasn't a problem for them.
But for Michael, who always saw himself as a righteous messenger, it wasn't so simple; he only ever focused on his tasks and completing them, without delving into the root causes.
You give me money, I provide security services; it's that simple.
Suddenly thinking on a deeper level, of course, caused him to freeze up.
Even as he boarded the ferry to Amsterdam, Michael still hadn't figured it out.
The three leaned against the stern railing, and Jin Kaide began to recount his first mission: "Before I was an assassin, I was only 16 that year..."
Jin Kaide's eyes looked into the distance, somewhat ethereal, as he continued speaking.
"That night, it was raining heavily, and a person rushed into the church. The pastor inside thought he was just there to rob money, so he told him to move the valuable items himself..."
"Unfortunately, that person wasn't after money. He picked up the iron poker in his hand and swung it at the unsuspecting pastor..."
The two listened quietly; it was rare for a top assassin to be willing to share his story.
"He placed the pastor's body on the altar for his congregation to see. The Bible says: 'Do not take revenge, but leave room for God's wrath.' But I couldn't leave room for God's wrath, so I decided to personally send him to meet the Lord..."
"When the gunshots rang out, I didn't feel the nausea after killing. I looked at the crows startled by the gunshots on the tree branches outside the car window, and my heart was very calm."
At this point, Zhang Jie had already understood what Jin Kaide wanted to express: this was a question of morality and stance.
Jin Kaide looked at Michael: "So, when you point the moral compass at me, you're not wrong, because you're actually pointing at a good person."
Jin Kaide pointed to himself.
Michael was puzzled: "Then why would a good person be associated with a scoundrel like Dukevich?"
"I don't know what that person did."
Jin Kaide denied this.
"That's a really good excuse."
Michael didn't believe him.
Jin Kaide looked at Michael again: "Can you tell me, do you know the past of every one of your clients?"
"No, I don't decide the life or death of my clients."
Michael shook his head, looking at Jin Kaide.
Zhang Jie patted Michael's shoulder: "You can't just look at the surface of things. Your job is to protect, and our job is to eliminate. Essentially, both are about completing tasks. Killing and saving lives are actually no different."
Zhang Jie turned to look at the distant sea: "If you kill one person to save a city, or save one person to kill a city, what would you choose? Would you decide based on the number of people?"
Michael didn't even think: "Of course, kill one person!"
Zhang Jie shrugged and looked back at Michael: "See, you still decided the life or death of the other party."
Michael was speechless, but Jin Kaide burst out laughing: "Interesting fellow, I'm starting to appreciate you more and more."
...Arriving in Amsterdam, the three stood in front of the safe house. Watching Michael trying the password, Zhang Jie and Jin Kaide exchanged glances.
"This is your so-called safety? We can't even get through the door! Motherfucker!"
Jin Kaide was as irritable as ever.
Michael was also sweating profusely.
"Fuck! It must be that I haven't been here for too long, and the password has been changed. It's okay, I can open it..."
Michael took out his heirloom lock-picking tools, preparing to open the lock: "The problem is these windows are all PC material, with a pressure-resistant layer, just like bulletproof glass. Forcing it open won't work..."
Zhang Jie smiled, watching Jin Kaide go to "work." He took out his phone, opened the camera interface, and stood behind them, starting to record.
Michael mumbled while concentrating on opening the door.
"There's also an alarm system here, it's the latest on the market... it has triple protection... if, I can..."
Suddenly, the door opened, startling him so much that he instinctively drew his gun and pointed it forward!
It turned out to be Jin Kaide, drinking beer and looking at the two, which completely flustered Michael. He looked around wildly but didn't hear the alarm sound.
"Oh, fuck! God!"
Michael had never seen anything so crazy in his life. This was a safe house! A safe house with an anti-theft system and an alarm system, damn it! How did you get in?!
How many minutes had it been?
"I'm Darius Jin Kaide, not God."
Jin Kaide joked.
"Hahahahaha!"
Zhang Jie, behind him, laughed heartily as he recorded the video, "Oh, that's brilliant!"
He checked the time; there were still 5 hours until the court hearing.
The three decided to rest in the safe house first before heading to court. At this moment, Zhang Jie noticed Jin Kaide looking towards the direction of Big Ben outside the window.
"I'm going to take a shower first."
With that, Jin Kaide went upstairs.
Michael, meanwhile, picked up the phone and called Emilia.
To be honest, he had thought a lot on this journey, and with Jin Kaide's guidance, he seemed to have understood his own feelings.
So, after the call connected...
Michael's first words were: "Hey! Emilia, I've forgiven you."
Emilia: ??!!
What the fuck! What in the world are you talking about to me?
"What the hell are you talking about to me?!"
Hearing a suppressed roar from the other end of the phone, Michael was stunned; his carefully cultivated emotions were instantly scattered.
"What?"
Emilia clearly had no intention of stopping there, because there was something more important to do right now: "Are you sure you want to discuss this kind of thing with me at a time like this?"
"What?"
"What do you need to forgive me for? What did I do wrong?"
"What?"
Michael was completely bewildered, confused by Emilia's words.
"Your mission right now is to safely bring Jin Kaide to court, understand? Now! Immediately! You idiot!"
The angry Emilia hung up the phone directly.
Michael was dumbfounded.
This was completely different from what he had expected. He had imagined saying, after building up his emotions, that he had forgiven Emilia.
And shouldn't Emilia have responded joyfully, 'Really?'
Then let's get back together.
But the reality was that he was scolded fiercely by Emilia.
When he turned his head, with a face full of question marks, to look at Zhang Jie, he saw Zhang Jie stifling a laugh.
It must be said that being with this guy certainly brought a lot more laughter.
If you say he's professional, he really is professional.
If you say he's stupid, he's not stupid either.
But why does he always fail to react in some critical situations?
However, he quickly adjusted. The main task now was to get Jin Kaide to court on time, without delay.
But did Jin Kaide really need to shower for so long?
The sound of water upstairs was still audible, but Zhang Jie had already left.
He had already guessed that Jin Kaide had slipped away again.
