Chapter 12 - The Pitiful King

But something did not felt right, as his senses were screaming, telling something was wrong before he, himself realized it. The kid instinctively retracted his sword and jumped backwards and soon the roof above the place he stood crumbled a little as he felt a gust of wind.

"Tsk, you are smart for an ignorant human." as the man's wound started healing up.

"You got lucky for I was merciful and let you strike me once, but I am not going to allow it happen twice" as he stood up from his throne and stretched up.

'Merciful my foot. Did I miss his heart? Why is he even able to regenerate in the first place.' He looked at his blade and it had no blood on it. Even the cloth was unharmed as if his sword did nothing against him.

The kid charged back at him, aiming for head this time. As he reached closer to him, the man just ran his fingers through his hair as he lifted his left arm with only 1 finger pointing towards him towards the kid.

"Despair awaits you" said the man as he swiped his fingers downwards.

The kid felt an enormous pressure, the whole area around him felt heavy as if gravity and wind itself pulled him downwards.

The kid started walking towards him with his sword ready to strike.

But just at that moment, the man pointed right arm with one finger towards him and something invisible, hard and moving fast hit him on the shoulder which made him flung a bit backwards and scream in agony as he was barely standing straight from the pressure.

'What was that?' he questioned as the kid breathed heavily.

"Give up, pitiful human. You can not win against pure talent like. mine."

The kid instantly tries again but is met with the same force on his chest.

"I do not enjoy torturing people. I guess I should get some of those peasant creatures from outside to guard the place so they can take care of.. trash like you." said the man as put his hand in front of his mouth like he was yawning.

The kid tried to stand up once again with his shaky leg while being in agonizing pain but soon one of his knees gave up soon followed by the other making his knees touch the ground.

"Learning when to give up is an essence in your life. Listen to adult and give up"

'Adult? Haha… all I see is a kid playing grown up pretending to be high and mighty.'

"Poor soul, I guess till the very end, you were not able to gain enlightenment."

The man raised another finger on his left hand, increasing the pressure as it weighed more on him but the kid was too stubborn to give up that easily. The man stated "You are really annoying."

'I will take that as a compliment.' as he smiles despite his hopeless situation.

"Stop being stubborn, you should knee fully before someone like me."

'Ha… I would rather die.'

The kid was not able to move as he was on his knees, trying to stand up, but his body wouldn't listen to him especially with the pressure that he felt on him.

The man pointed one finger to the head of the kid.

'Ha… I guess you ran out of strength to make me kneel.'

"Oh you poor soul, let me protect you and send you to the next world peacefully for your kind can never gain enlightenment" his wording sounded almost as if he was pitying him and being merciful towards the kid instead of arrogant.

The kid looked towards the door again.

"Oh and don't worry about the one outside. As I said, you are trapped here with me. They can not enter when someone is already inside the room. The only way in for them is for the one inside to die. Oh your poor pitiful soul, it was your grave the moment you came inside alone."

'I guess I can't count them.'

The man charges up the invisible attack once again as he yawns with his finger wiping his eyes.

A sudden bust of something invisible hit him on head making everything go white as he started falling backwards while the droplets from bleeding of his head flung away.

'I guess this is it… I tried my best, didn't I? There is no way I can win.'

Soon he slammed into the ground hard to cause bleeding more severely as he stared at the dark roof of the room.

The man put his hands away and positioned one of his legs high above the kid's guts and threw towards it. The kid just gritted his teeth and got the wind knocked out of him as he just stared at the roof.

"You should have kneed when I asked you." but his voice sounded heavier.

The kid tried to keep his eyes open but was struggling to keep them as the darkness started to take over his sight.

'Now I can finally rest right… I am free now? Freed from the chains of this world… I can finally rest up. No one there to mourn for me… no one out there who will miss me. No one has any hopes for or from me. At the end of the day, it's just another person who died. It will change nothing. Will not affect anyone… I no longer have to stand up again, for I am free to die' as he slowly shuts his eyes.

He seemed to be trying to comfort himself in lies, reassuring himself of the death and he can finally let go of this world with no regrets.

Different Voices whisper in his mind.

"When you come back… You still have to thank the village people for protecting your freedom and the miss at tavern for the chain, those things aren't cheap you know."

'Stop it…'

"Carry our will till you find yours."

'Let me rest in peace already please'

"Come back safely"

'Don't give me false hope anymore'

"Don't die, if you ever feel lost, you can come to me"

'Please let me rest.'

A sound of a drop falling into a silent puddle appeared.

A new, different yet familiar voice echoed inside himself. A voice of his own self but darker 'You say that yet you still are trying to stand up. Why?'

The prideful man said "I guess your master wasted time on teaching a dud and people who believed in you believed for nothing. Poor soul… rest up now for your hard work is nothing compared to my immeasurable talent." As the man rubbed his foot on the ground to clean off after touching him.

The kid stated 'You will have to take that back' as the kid breathed out faint smoke which was not visible.

The man looked at the kid, trying to get back up with the support of his wobbling sword which was right next to his neck.

"Pethetic existence like yours is pitiful, wanting to live even when given a chance to die off easily. Utter foolish I would say"

The man raises his left hand with a single finger and instantly aims his right arm towards the kid but does not shoot any wind towards him. The kid slammed against the ground from the pressure and did not resist at all as he fell down like a puppet whose strings were cut off which was not surprising as the kid should have already been dead by now.

His sword fell backwards to the ground beside his arm.

Sounds of multiple drops falling into puddles and chains loosening themself appeared.

His inner voice stood in front of him, it was him but covered in pure dark mist as it said 'you had false hope so many times before, why will you fall for it once again? It will be empty once again.'

'I guess I can die now…' thought the kid to himself with no life in his eyes'

The sound of multiple streams of water falling into the lake and chain

'No… The promise... I still have to keep my promise' as he was trying heavily.

Something heavy dropping into the water appeared.

Inner voice came as his reflection said 'Why do you still care? You destroyed his heart, cut off his limbs, even his head and yet nothing happened.'

The pressure kept on increasing, almost crushing him to his death.

'Because I don't want all those empty hopes to be empty regrets…' as his own thought sound dropped to nothing.

The pressure made him feel pain in every inch on his body yet he did not let out a single scream of pain as if he was already dead and no longer breathed.

The reflection of himself echoed 'You are in the end who will only suffer. Not the one who has hope in you, give up… You can not win against that thing.'

The sound of waterfall dropping into the sea emerges.

The man stopped using the power as he saw a motionless body with no resistance laid there.

The voice screamed 'The world is flawed. Let it suffer.'

A sound of a single drop falling to a still silent sea echoed.

The kid smiled back at his own reflection.

'The world is not flawed but the human living on it. There is no way a world who gently escorts a human after their death can be a bad one… And i still have a promise to keep'
