Turning to give my full attention to the creatures that just entered the room, I had no time to put up a magic shield when one fired a single blue bolt at me. I raised my left arm and braced for impact, but instead felt the bolt splash over my arm. Confused I hear Ghost shouting behind me.
"I will explain later!"
"Right!"
I pull the lawgiver from my trench coat and fire two I.C.E.R.S at the closest Fallen. Both rounds hit, but it only stumbling around before it recovers.
"AP!" I shout before firing once more at the same Fallen and I watch as the round is caught by the creatures chest armor without slowing it down.
Another three bolts fly towards me as I sidestep to dodge the first two and block the third with a magic shield.
The one I have been shooting at finally reaches me and swings its short sword.
I dodge and switch out the ammo to High-Explosive and fire twice at the Fallen's left leg. The first round shatters the armored knee pad followed by the second, which blows the leg clean off. The Fallen shrieks and falls, but before I get a chance to finish it off the second arrives and strikes.
I jump back to avoid the strike and fire three times at point blank range. The Fallen drops its short sword and falls back dead.
Two more bolts pass my shoulder and I notice that the one armed with a rifle is slowly moving forward. I fire three times, the first two miss and the third bounces off its armored shoulder.
While the lawgiver is an extraordinary weapon, capable of using numerous ammo types, I begin to realize that it doesn't have the power to punch through the Fallen's armor at a distance.
So I rush the last one. Realizing what I am planning, the Fallen also sacrifices accuracy to get closer.
We both exchange fire as we rush towards each other. The Fallen with the missing leg raises its short sword as its colleague passes it, exchanging its rifle for the sword.
I take a moment to holster the lawgiver and activate my zero-point energy gloves. Pointing at both creatures, I capture them both and launch them both into the ceiling. They crash into the ceiling, creating a dent, then dropped to the floor.
Seeing that they were still alive I conjure a bo staff to finish them off, but once it materializes I begin to feel magic coursing through my body into my left hand.
It felt strange to have my own magic move without any input, but it didn't feel threatening, rather it was a desire to release everything I have.
So I released the magic into the bo staff and it suddenly transformed into a one handed sword.
But the most shocking sight was the lighting coming off the sword.
The Fallen knew what it meant as they began to desperately crawl towards the weapons they dropped.
I take one step towards them and suddenly I was standing right next to them. The one missing its leg lunged at me and I stepped sideways to dodge while slashing at its shoulder. The other one manages to reach the gun and tries to bring it up to fire, so I put my right hand on the pommel of the sword and thrust it into the Fallen's chest.
As the sword breaks through the chest armor, I can hear the one I slashed scream in agony before a loud 'thud' noise occurs. Turning my head sideways I watch as lighting travels across the body of the dead Fallen.
Lighting also begins to travel through the one with the sword in its chest. It doesn't even get a chance to scream as it dies in an instant.
All three Fallen were now dead.
As I begin to catch my breath the sword dissipates and I begin to feel how low my magic reserves have become.
Soon Ghost flies towards me and congratulates me on my victory.
"That last move... what was that? I have never done anything like that before."
"All in good time. The ship is ready... we should get going before another patrol comes through"
"... right"
A bright light flashes before my eyes and when I recover I find myself sitting inside the jumpship, watching the ground shrink away as we leave the Wall and accelerate into the sky.
I had several questions about what just happened, but I was so tired that I decided to wait until we reach our destination.
Six hours later
"Wake up guardian we have arrived."
Hearing Ghost call out, I woke up from my nap and noticed the dark clouds that covered the entire horizon.
"Ghost I don't see anything."
"Don't worry we are here"
Just as he answered we broke through cloud cover and the sight on the other side was incredible.
What I could only describe as a minimoon hovered above a mega city with a single tower that dominated the skyline. I wouldn't be able to give an exact number, but I would say that the tower could easily give the Burj Khalifa ( Author note: Tallest tower in the world 828 meter or 2717 feet) a run for its money.
We flew directly over the city towards the tower. Passing over the top floor a light flashes before my eyes again and I find myself standing on the balcony with Ghost right beside me.
"Welcome to the Last City, the only place the Traveler can still protect. It took centuries to build, now we count everyday it stands."
"This tower is where the guardians live. Follow me inside and I will explain everything to you."
Taking a deep breath I follow Ghost into the tower.
