Chapter 16 Part 2 Chains of Longing

Seeing Yue'er's surprise, Yanfei smiled. "It can also be fire." The crow burst into flame radiant heat poured from it.

"An illusion." Yue'er realized. She probed for flaws but found none. "Mother, this all feels real."

"Because it isn't false yet now you cannot grasp it; that is normal." They walked; the world wasn't large, and soon they reached the edge a shell of light covering the land. "This is my limit break it and you return to reality. Yue'er, do you know where we are?"

"By illusion theory, our senses are lost; though we walked far, we should still be where we started."

"I cannot leave so you go and see." Yanfei opened a door; Yue'er stepped out into a forest. Looking back, scenery of the Realm seemed to replace the real world; Yue'er stepped back in but didn't feel the Realm again. She grabbed a handful of soil and examined it real. She stepped out, grabbed another also real. Impossible one must be false; illusions cannot be carried out. Then the soil from the Realm slowly changed color to match the outside. "Illusion is distortion of five senses outside it, matter returns to true form. That fits illusion but I already left how is the change delayed?"

A rabbit ran to the boundary and looked up. "It can't get out." She plucked it out like the soil, it quickly transformed into a porcelain rabbit. "Alchemy," Yue'er concluded after long study.

"But how? How can Mother wield alchemy?"

"And why do the rabbits move again?"

She pulled several creatures big and small all porcelain. "Impossible those weren't in the room. Mother can't create matter from nothing that's against alchemy's rules.

"Yin-yang and five-element Qis are the world's base theoretically, anything is made from the seven Qis. If Mother's realm is high enough, can she reassemble Heaven-Earth Qi? But how give them life? Soul-shift?"

"Can the Yin-Yang School create life? Impossible." She recalled the Mirage's wonders similar, yet it worked by formation, not this. Unable to figure it out, Yue'er focused on what she could.

"Part alchemy promoting transformations of matter. Living beasts have special spiritual waves identifiable as soul-shift. Souls are four layers; the wave is True-Knowledge Soul-Light."

"Mother said I've met the minimum; then I can try." She tried to set illusions like Yanfei but could not use alchemy or command Heaven-Earth Qi without Mother's help. "But Mother helped me find the world's root using that link, can I do anything?"

While Yue'er struggled, Yanfei reappeared, pleased. "Still your mind. Become part of Heaven and Earth; let your intent flow to the world. Within the Realm you are the Heaven."

Yue'er tried to form various things each shattered. "Truth and illusion aren't for you to know yet. Think of what you desire most, what you know best."

Her impatience faded. "What do I desire and know most?" Memories stirred suddenly, the silly smile of Tianming appeared. "Tianming." Her whole heart surged, and all her memories of him shattered into pieces and reformed into the Tianming she knew best. "Tianming," she smiled.

A tremor ran through her soul; Heaven-Earth Qi surged uncontrollably, answering her heart to take Tianming's shape in the Realm. "Coming Yue'er is amazing done in one try. Linked to Heaven-Earth root, man and nature united this is the one chance to taste Heaven-Man Unity early, the best time to work Yin-Yang Realm."

"The Elder said: in this phase, one might receive Heaven's reward. Back then, our cultivations were too high none of us had the fortune not even the Elder." "I wonder if Yue'er can gain it."

As Qi moved, a figure condensed beside Yue'er it was Tianming, unmistakable to Yanfei's eye. "Pour all your mind into him," Yanfei urged. Yue'er obeyed Tianming turned from void to solid; every strange ripple had been etched into Yue'er's soul like an inborn brand.

Yanfei watched Tianming's fully real body with a hint of jealousy. Yue'er opened her eyes. "Mother what is this? Why Tianming?" "Alchemy creation the most perfect product achievable in theory."

"Ah?" Yue'er looked baffled. "This body, though lifeless, is identical to flesh alchemy's theoretical peak beneath forging actual life."

"You can try to control it." Yue'er found it easy as if moving her own body. "These have no life or spirit, but they can host another soul the Yinyang School's ghost thralls use this principle: ghost thralls are… what are you doing?"

Yanfei was explaining when the "Tianming" Yue'er controlled suddenly raised its cock, swelling iron-hard and pointing at Yanfei. "I thought this thing wouldn't work Mother, look it's as big as Tianming's when hard."

Yanfei bristled. "It's one-to-one copy how could it be different?" Even as she thought this, Yue'er cried out, "It can get bigger!" Under Yue'er's control, the "Tianming's" cock continued swelling to the thickness of a forearm comically out of proportion while Yue'er experimented further.

Yue'er thought it natural; she had no idea she had shocked Yanfei. Heaven-Earth Qi is lively formless, ever-changing thus the base of all. Once fixed into specific matter, it loses liveliness and keeps a fixed form. Motion and rest of Qi are opposite poles the ultimate motion is the cultivable Breath (qi), infinite subtilty; the ultimate rest is mountains, rivers, soil, plants, living beings.

Yanfei had thought Yue'er had gained an endlessly reusable alchemy puppet; now it was clear the harvest was far greater this degree of mystery surpassed even her understanding. Watching Yue'er make the "Tianming" surpass human limits, Yanfei's heart skipped fearful her daughter would devise terrifying play.

"Enough, Yue'er put it away. Tianming likely returned after so many days he must miss you." "Then let's go back quickly."

Watching "Tianming" vanish, Yanfei finally exhaled. "Yue'er probably doesn't realize she can't summon that puppet again at her current realm. Such talent yet only wants to fool around with Tianming."

Meanwhile, Tianming had not returned. He and Stone Orchid had gone for a long while; both sated, she called Little Black to head back only for Shaoyu to block them.

Leaning toward Stone Orchid, Shaoyu caught a strong scent on them; the two had just finished and not washed caught red-handed. "You adulterers caught at last. Pick your death," he said, rolling up sleeves as if to thrash them.

Stone Orchid watched the act unmoved; Tianming flushed he'd been the one to vow not to touch her, and he'd broken it in secret. Seeing Tianming stammer, Shaoyu grew merrier, grabbed him and lifted him. "Speak, boy what shall it be? If you don't want a beating, choose."

At his aggression, Stone Orchid's brow creased. "Adulterers? Whose 'wife' am I?" Shaoyu blinked, turning to see her glaring. "You're my woman, of course "

"When did I become your woman?" she cut in. "Did we wed and bow? You didn't marry me how am I yours?

"I'm single who I'm with is my business.

"Since we came here, how many have you looked for? A bunch of village wives already married, and you don't refuse.

"Who do you want now?" Her voice rose. Both Tianming and Shaoyu were stunned. She'd gotten angry before often yet mostly petulant; this was the first time they'd seen true fury.

She swept them both with a cold look, left them there, and rode off on Little Black. After a time, Shaoyu muttered, "Did you set her off?" Tianming shot back, "She was clearly mad at you."

"At me? Then why did she leave you behind?" "I got dragged into your mess…"

They bickered a bit, then headed back.
