Chapter 40 - Who am I

At the grand arena in the heart of Meta City, countless spectators gathered to witness the fierce battles. The fights were not only broadcast across the planet but also streamed live to other worlds, where Overseers watched from afar.

Kai, who had just finished muttering to himself in the bathroom, walked out and made his way toward the arena. He slipped into the preparation room behind the stage, ready to step into the ring as the next challenger.

Eugene soon found him, wearing a confident look as he approached Kai.

"Do your best, my friend. I know you can handle this. A dragon? Compared to Macto, that's nothing. He'll be weaker for sure."

Kai froze, his face filled with panic as his body trembled.

"Are you crazy? That's a dragon! Not even human!"

With a cheerful smile, Eugene placed his hand lightly on Kai's shoulder, as if to give him strength.

"Don't worry. I know you can do it. You're far stronger than you think."

The moment his words ended, the booming voice of the announcer echoed through the arena.

"Ladies and gentlemen, the fourth match is about to begin! Kai, the fiery newcomer of the Overseers, will face the Dragon King, Feegor!"

Holding his head in both hands, Kai muttered to himself,

"Live or die… if things turn bad, I'll just surrender. Fight… I have to fight."

He rose to his feet, clenched his fists at chest level, and shouted:

"I'll fight! Live or die, I'll fight for that ten-thousand-unit prize!"

Then, softening his voice, he turned to Eugene.

"Thank you, Eugene… for believing in me. I'll do it."

With that, Kai strode out toward the arena, where a massive figure awaited him—a silver-haired, blue-eyed man whose very presence radiated draconic might. He wore a white shirt beneath a flowing white coat, black trousers, and black boots. He was none other than the Dragon King, Feegor.

The moment Feegor saw him, he spoke with cold finality:

"Best give up now, boy. It's wiser than throwing your life away against me."

Without waiting for a response, Feegor lunged forward and slammed his fist into Kai's midsection, hurling him into the arena wall.

BOOM! The impact left a massive crater in the stone. Kai's body slid down and hit the ground with a heavy thud.

But Kai forced himself back up, charging at Feegor with everything he had. His strike landed, but Feegor blocked it with ease, his arms absorbing the blow.

In an instant, Feegor countered—his knee drove into Kai's ribs, then his hand clamped around Kai's neck, lifting him before smashing a brutal left hook into his face.

Kai's body skidded across the ground, blood spraying from his mouth.

"I'll show you my true power," Feegor growled.

Then, before the roaring crowd, Feegor transformed into a colossal white dragon, his scales gleaming under the arena lights. Cheers erupted, the atmosphere electrified with awe and excitement.

Kai stood frozen before the towering beast, trembling, his strength drained by fear. His arms and legs refused to move.

The dragon's blue eyes glared down at him, radiating killing intent so heavy it crushed his will. Feegor's roar echoed through the arena, demanding surrender without another fight.

Kai, overwhelmed, began to raise his hand to yield.

But then—

"Look at me."

A voice rang inside his mind.

Kai's consciousness drifted, his body still standing motionless before the Dragon King.

Feegor, seeing his chance, struck again, slamming Kai's limp form across the ground.

CRASH—THUD—ROLL! His body tumbled, lifeless.

Inside the darkness of his mind, Kai cried out:

"Where am I? Who's there? Who's in my head?"

From the shadows, countless faint figures stared at him. Then, from the void, a massive black dragon emerged and spoke:

"Accept me."

Kai stammered back, "Who are you? What do you want from me?"

The dragon's deep voice rumbled.

"Use The Vision Eye, and you'll understand who we are."

Kai's eyes widened.

"What… you mean you are me? What does that even mean?"

The black dragon's gaze pierced him.

"We are not you. Because you… are something greater."

The words resounded within him, and in the next moment Kai's eyes snapped open.

He turned his gaze upon Feegor.

Feegor moved to strike again, but suddenly his body froze. His dragon's eyes widened in horror—before him, he no longer saw a man. He saw a towering black dragon.

With terror in his voice, Feegor gasped:

"The Great Beast… Kazat."

Instantly, he reverted to his human form, raising both hands in surrender.

The crowd erupted in outrage.

"Hey! The fight's not over! Get back in there, Feegor! That guy's still standing!"

But Feegor knew the truth—if he continued, defeat was inevitable. Bowing his head, he declared:

"I will not continue this fight. I forfeit."

The announcer's stunned voice echoed across the arena.

"What an unbelievable turn of events! Out of nowhere, the Dragon King himself surrenders! And with that, the victory goes to Kai, the rookie Overseer!"

Finally, the arena loudspeakers announced:

"This concludes today's tournament! The battles will resume tomorrow. We ask that all spectators leave in peace."
