Chapter 115: Characteristics of Genjutsu Combat
"Li Yao..."
Li Yao stepped out of the cave on his own. The Sarutobi couple had already approached to within 700 meters—close enough to see each other clearly.
Seeing the calm expression on Li Yao's face, both Sarutobi Tenchu and Ayase felt a heavy weight settle in their hearts.
Li Yao still had the strength to resist—perhaps even to counterattack. And he wasn't afraid of their arrival.
Unlike before, he hadn't tried to flee upon sensing them. That meant he was confident—
Confident he could kill them.
And that only reinforced their resolve: they had to seal him here or force him to abandon Kimura Yao's body.
Because it also meant one thing: Li Yao could no longer use Shadow Clones like before.
Boom!
There were no words between enemies—just action. Li Yao launched forward, propelled by two Black Iron Chains at his back, hurtling toward the couple.
They responded just as quickly.
Tenchu leapt down with a massive sealing scroll, more than five meters long and as wide as a person. Midair, he performed five hand seals.
At the same time, Ayase completed hand seals of her own. From the blank scroll she carried, thirty ink-painted birds flew out and charged at Li Yao.
Crackle...
Black lightning surged across Li Yao's body. One bolt shot toward Tenchu as he activated the scroll, the other toward the incoming ink birds.
Pop pop pop...
Ink birds exploded midair, splattering black ink.
Li Yao frowned slightly—the birds had blocked the black lightning intended for Tenchu.
By then, Tenchu had landed. Li Yao realized the massive scroll likely held a powerful sealing technique.
But that didn't matter.
No matter how powerful a sealing jutsu was, it still needed someone to control it.
Now he was within 200 meters.
That distance had previously been too far for his genjutsu chakra to reach.
But with the Gate of Death open—his mental strength and spiritual will were on another level.
"Vajra Binding Barrier Technique—activate!!"
"Genjutsu: Sensory Deprivation Technique!"
Li Yao and Tenchu released their techniques almost simultaneously.
Tenchu pressed both hands onto the massive scroll.
Golden light erupted. A colossal barrier—a kilometer wide—rose from the scroll in an instant.
But that was all it did.
Before Tenchu could do anything more, Li Yao's genjutsu chakra had already invaded his mind.
In a flash, Tenchu's consciousness was plunged into darkness, completely severed from his body and the outside world.
The Sensory Deprivation Technique had not let Li Yao down.
With genjutsu, it was simple:
If the target couldn't resist—instant victory.
If they could—fight on.
There was no in-between.
Rumble rumble...
The massive barrier was now fully formed.
Li Yao had no means of unleashing another chakra burst like the one he'd used to stop Mito Uzumaki from deploying hers.
But that was fine—the one controlling this barrier had been neutralized.
In the sky, Ayase was likewise struck. Li Yao's genjutsu chakra penetrated her mind, and she too was thrown into the sensory void.
Even the Ink Bird she rode collapsed into a puddle of ink.
CLANG—
As she fell, Li Yao fired a Black Iron Chain that wrapped around her and sealed her chakra.
She couldn't be allowed to die just yet.
He still needed to extract her chakra.
Tap tap...
Li Yao stepped forward and approached Tenchu, who was now kneeling by the scroll. He sealed his chakra the same way.
Then he kicked Tenchu aside, crouched before the scroll, and pressed his hands onto it, channeling Vajra Sealing Chakra.
"Heh..."
Li Yao's eyes lit up, lips curling into a smile.
Just as he expected—
The technique sealed within the scroll didn't care who activated it. He could control the Vajra Binding Barrier Technique just fine.
One thought—
And the barrier would collapse.
But that would be a waste.
So much chakra—why let it disperse into the air when he could absorb it?
With another thought, Li Yao began using Vajra Sealing to devour the chakra from the barrier via the scroll.
Maybe because it was the same type of sealing chakra—
He encountered no resistance.
Mito Uzumaki had likely never considered the possibility that someone might copy her sealing chakra.
Without her personal control, the barrier posed no challenge to him.
Soon, massive amounts of chakra flowed into him.
Li Yao absorbed it while simultaneously converting it into standard chakra—then into acupoint chakra to seal the Gate of Death.
It had to be said—Mito, the Jinchūriki of the Nine-Tails, had an insane amount of chakra.
This single scroll contained nearly as much as Li Yao had unleashed when opening all gates except the Gate of Death.
It was more than enough to seal the gate.
One minute later—
The scroll's chakra was gone.
Inside his body, the Gate of Death stabilized. The cells no longer hemorrhaged their life potential.
But... that was the limit.
Li Yao checked—
The chakra in the Gate of Death was still uncontained.
Like his other acupoint spaces, it now had leaks on all sides.
In other words, while the flow of life energy had been stopped—
The Gate of Death, as a space, was destroyed.
It no longer stored chakra.
Now he had only one reservoir left—his dantian.
Without the Gate, relying on only one source meant his chakra reserves were now about half of what they once were.
What could an ANBU jōnin do with half his chakra?
Maybe cast a few Chidori. That's it.
"Time to really lay low."
Li Yao stood and used chakra from his storage space to conjure a black flow that swept up the scroll.
He glanced at the unconscious Sarutobi couple.
He had made his decision.
This time, when he found a new hideout—he wouldn't come out again.
He'd live off the stored food in his dimensional space, and if needed, forage locally.
He had thought Viper Island was secure. That no one could find him.
Clearly, he was wrong.
Too many strange jutsu existed in this world—too many unpredictable abilities.
He had to lie low and grow stronger.
Especially now that his chakra was halved.
