Chapter 8 - Painful day off

A young man opened his eyes, he groaned lazily, not wanting to get up. As he left his bed slowly, he looked in the mirror. He wasn't bad looking per say, not having a girlfriend yet. Jason wasn't bothered to much. He wondered what he should do next.

He lived a normal life, he was a regular ol Joe. No powers/magic and anything granted to him. He lived in a world where portal appeared and if no one enters them to contain the monsters. Earth would be in big trouble, but most of all there is a giant tower in the middle of the world.

If no one dares to climb, the tower would spawn multiple portals filled with monsters. Making them come to earth and cause destruction. Humanity is forced to climb that giant tower that the whole world knows.

Jason left it to the Hunters, as he couldn't do anything to help.

'It would be nice to have some sort of power....but I guess this is fine'

It didn't bother him, he had a good job at the hunter association helpers desk. Pay was good, he was living comfortable.

'I wonder what the news is saying now'

Jason went to the living room, turned the TV. As the news played, revealing about how the hunters conquered the 25th floor. The highest they ever gotten to, when the mysterious being had once appeared. Saying that there was 100th floors to conquer.

"We're progressing at least"

Jason was content with that information. As the being that warned them if they didn't climbed the towers, they would all perish.

Each floor contained monsters, but most of all some contained a civilization like them. There were humans to other races.

On his day off, he continued to watch the news as he ate breakfast that he made himself.

*Cough*

Out of nowhere, Jason started to cough up blood, his body grew weak in seconds. He fell to the ground, as he clutched his chest. Some people without a connection to mana, were easily prone to diseases unlike hunters.

Jason had a disease called "Hukosil" disease. Something that even hunter's that are expert at healing can help him. Now for the higher rank healer's, he needs money. He didn't have that money to even ask an S-rank healer to cure him. Regular hospitals didn't work, and those other hospitals that worked with hunters didn't work either.

"Argh!"

His head started to hurt, it became a serious migraine, as he tried his best to not scream. The pain in his heart, head and body was all to much. He thought he never should get a headache, or migraine.

The only symptoms to his disease was just heart ache's and weak body. Not migraines, Jason just wanted this to end.

'It hurts...it hurts so badly!'

He spit out blood, he could only weakly lie on the floor. His body to weak to move on it's own.

"My pills"

Jason grabbed the pills in hands reach, luckily he had some on standby on the table. He popped 2, recommended by the doctor. His condition subsided, but the painstakingly migraine lingered longer, as he clutched his head.

Jason leaned on the couch, sitting down on the floor.

'I-Is this a new symptom?'

He didn't know, but it wasn't related to the disease. Even then, Jason felt like maybe the doctor's were right. He doesn't have much to live for.

Giving to him about 10 years as he was only 22 years old. As there is yet no cure for his disease. So, he has the knowledge of death looming above his head.

The migraine left, as he slowly went to the bathroom a fever soon took place. Which he weakly grabbed a towel and wetted it. Putting it on his forehead, he laid on the couch right after.

His breathing became faint, his heart started to beat softly. He was just a regular man, prone to normal things in life.

"I could've called my mom or dad"

He muttered weakly, as they're not to far away from him. Since, he moved out from his parents home to live on his own.

"I just need...."

His eyes were growing weak, he slowly was falling into slumber.

"...some sleep"

He fell asleep, as his energy depleted for the day.
