Kai followed Mei Lin into her chamber. The room was simple—clean mats, a single lantern flickering, the faint scent of orchids drifting through the air.
She stood by the window, moonlight painting her silver. Her voice was barely audible.

Kai stepped closer, his voice steady. "I know. But it also means more to me than you think."
