Chapter 35 – Council of Two Tribes
The grand hall of the Forest Elves glowed with the light of countless crystals that hung from the branches above. Hundreds of candles filled the air with the scent of wildflowers, yet despite the warmth, the atmosphere was thick with unease.
At the center of the hall, a great round table grown from the roots of an ancient tree stood as the gathering place. Around it sat the elders of the Forest Elves, their expressions wary, while the Dark Elf elders remained stiff, their posture betraying discomfort in foreign soil.
Upon the high seat sat Queen Serenea, her deep-green robe flowing to the floor, a crown of silver branches resting on her brow. Her eyes were sharp and commanding, their weight silencing even the faintest whisper.
Before her stood Valdyn Thalorian, golden hair shining beneath the crystal lights. At his right sat Sylwen, cradling Kaelen and Lyraine in her arms. At his left sat Nymeris, her eyes steady and unflinching, while her attendants guarded Lyrielle, Daenor, and Seltharion, who slept in a cradle lined with silk leaves.
The soft cries of those infants occasionally broke the silence, a living reminder that the fate of the Elves now rested on these fragile lives.
---
One Forest Elf elder was the first to speak, his voice rough with suspicion.
"We allowed them to step within our borders… but must we also allow the blood of darkness into our lives?"
A Dark Elf elder with a long white beard struck his staff against the floor, his tone sharp.
"Blood of darkness? Your tongue is quick to spit scorn. We too are children of the ancestors, same as you. We only walked a different path."
The tension in the hall rose. Some Forest Elf elders scoffed, while Dark Elf elders clenched their fists.
Valdyn raised his hand. His voice was calm, but it cut through the noise like an arrow.
"Enough! I did not bring you here to repeat the hatred of the past. I brought you here to speak of the future."
---
Queen Serenea leaned forward slightly, her eyes never leaving her son.
"Then speak, Valdyn. You brought them here. What is your purpose?"
Valdyn turned, sweeping his gaze across the gathered elders.
"The Ragnarok War eighty years ago shattered us. Forest Elves destroyed, Dark Elves scattered. Now we are but remnants. But the ancestors did not abandon us."
His eyes shifted briefly to his five children.
"The proof lies before you. Five children. Five! When our race can barely bring forth one child in a century."
The hall fell silent. None could deny the truth.
---
But one Forest Elf elder slammed his staff.
"Children… they are only chance. What proof do we have that they will become our salvation? What if they bring ruin instead?"
Another Dark Elf elder snarled. "Then you are blind! The power of Valdyn's blood is undeniable. Even prophecy speaks of a golden-haired child who will raise the Elves. Look at him—and look at the children he has brought forth!"
Sylwen lifted her voice, soft yet unwavering.
"While you argue over hate, the world beyond grows stronger. Humans expand, orcs march, beastmen solidify their rule. If we remain divided, the Elves will vanish forever."
Nymeris followed, her tone like a blade.
"You may despise us for eternity, but when the enemy comes, your blood will still spill. Better that it spill beside us than against us."
---
Valdyn stepped forward, lifting Kaelen into his arms. The child's golden eyes fluttered open, staring at the hall with innocent clarity.
"This is not about me," Valdyn said, voice steady. "It is about them. About the future. If you refuse unity, you are refusing these children—living proof that our race can survive."
A heavy silence followed. Some elders bowed their heads, others wrestled with their doubts.
At last, the white-bearded elder of the Dark Elves struck his staff again.
"For the sake of these children… I will choose unity."
The Forest Elf elders exchanged glances. Slowly, reluctantly, they began to nod.
Queen Serenea closed her eyes, then lifted her voice so that none could mistake her decree.
"Then tonight, let it be witnessed. This is the beginning of one tribe."

Though the meeting ended with murmurs of fragile hope, Valdyn's gaze wandered past the windows of the great hall.
Far beyond the trees, he felt a presence—wild, ancient, and cold. He knew it was not human.
The Five Rulers of the Forest… the ancestors' whisper echoed in his mind. If you truly wish to unite your people, you must face them.
Valdyn clenched his fist.
"So be it. If that is the path, then I will challenge even the rulers of the wild."
