Seven days passed in a flash.
With John and Shuppet working together day and night, the clay figure carved with runic patterns had finally absorbed enough Ghost-type energy.
A low rumble filled the room.
The faintly glowing runes lit up all at once, and the entire clay figure began to tremble.
The figure's eyes flickered open, irregular, geometric shapes, like something from an ancient digital pattern.
The spiraling runes on its chest solidified, transforming into a stone plate engraved with swirling markings.
A moment later, the clay figure slowly stood up. Its movements were stiff and mechanical, like a puppet just learning to move its limbs.
After a long period of awkward adjustment, it finally raised its head and stared straight at Lucien.
It was born, his first Golett.
"…"
The newborn Golett didn't yet know how to speak. It simply stared at Lucien blankly, its unblinking eyes reflecting his silhouette.
"Golett?" Lucien tried.
No response. Only that same innocent, vacant gaze.
Lucien frowned slightly and opened his system panel.
[Pokémon: Golett]
Type: Ground / Ghost
Gender: None
Ability: Klutz
Moves: Mud-Slap, Astonish
Friendship: 100 (Can exceed the usual maximum under special conditions)
Origin: Created in Kingdom Year 149
"Huh… so everything is functioning normally," Lucien murmured.
Astonish and Mud-Slap, basic moves a newborn Golett should have. Its level was roughly equivalent to Level 1.
Ability: Klutz.
Yes… that certainly matched the way it moved.
But the number that truly surprised him was the friendship value.
"Friendship… maxed out already?" Lucien blinked.
Did it really recognize him as its creator?
Lucien touched his chest lightly, amused. "Golett, I'm Lucien."
Golett didn't reply. It simply stared at him, unmoving, as if its entire world revolved around memorizing this one face.
"Ugh…" Dragonite leaned forward, rubbing its head in confusion.
Why did this little guy look so empty inside?
"It's just been born. It hasn't fully adapted yet," Lucien explained to the curious Pokémon gathering around him.
Truthfully, this was not the first Golett in history.
Ancient civilizations had created many Golett and Golurk long, long ago, constructed from clay and spirit energy to protect both humans and Pokémon.
That was why Golett species were inherently loyal, not a single one ever disobeyed its creator.
The rebellious streak of something like Ash's Charizard would simply never exist in them.
Golett, still watching Lucien, tilted its head.
It seemed to be engraving this moment into the core of its being.
"Golett, turn right," Lucien tested.
Golett immediately rotated, directly to the left.
"That's left…"
Golett jerked and turned again, this time completely backward.
"That's behind you."
Golett rotated once more and finally, after a moment of wobbling, turned the correct direction.
Lucien rubbed the bridge of his nose. "…"
Despite himself, he smiled.
"It's actually kind of cute like this."
He knelt down and gently patted Golett's clay body.
"Since you've been given life, stay with us from now on."
Golett opened its mouth slightly, trying to respond, but unable to produce sound yet.
No matter. It was his Pokémon now, clumsy or not.
With Victini temporarily accompanying them, Lucien realized something amusing.
His team of six was finally full.
Dragonite, Serperior, Larvesta, Victini, Kyurem, and Golett.
Exactly six.
Lucien looked at the newly born Golett before him. It was still clumsy and unsteady, but he had no intention of abandoning it, he had created it with his own hands, after all.
And human-made Pokémon were incredibly adaptable.
Right now, Golett's body held only ordinary Ghost-type energy. If, one day, he infused it with Giratina's power… would it undergo a qualitative transformation?
Lucien couldn't help but imagine it.
But such thoughts were far too early. Giratina was in the distant Sinnoh region, and with Unova not yet unified, leaving was impossible.
A knock came at the door.
Lucien paused for a moment.
"Come in."
Elif pushed the door open and entered with Megan beside him.
"Your Highness, Megan wishes to see you," Elif reported.
"Megan?" Lucien was a little surprised. "What happened at the Ranch?"
Megan quickly explained, "Your Highness… it's Fallffy. Fallffy evolved! Just like the Magikarp did before!"
Evolved?
Lucien remembered that among the Mareep Megan raised, there were a few Flaaffy.
And now Fallffy had evolved… meaning an Ampharos had been born.
Ampharos shed all its wool upon evolving and could no longer produce fleece.
At first glance, it seemed less useful to the ranch, but to the territory, an Ampharos was incredibly valuable.
Its tail, tipped with a bright red orb, could emit a powerful light, bright enough to be seen from the sea.
For sailors in coastal regions, Ampharos served as a beacon, a living lighthouse guiding lost ships home.
If the territory had several Ampharos, they could be hired to light the roads at night or illuminate work areas for nighttime labor.
Lucien had never seen an Ampharos in person since arriving in this world, and excitement stirred in him.
He wanted to witness how bright that tail-light truly was.
"Take me to see it," Lucien said immediately.
"Yes, Your Highness!" Megan replied, not daring to delay.
They left the town and soon arrived at Megan's Ranch.
Once inside, Lucien instantly spotted a Pokémon standing out among the flock of wool-covered Mareep.
Hairless yellow skin. Soft white belly.
The glowing red orb at the end of its tail.
There was no mistaking it.
It was Ampharos.
