The car was too quiet.

And I liked it that way.

The hum of the engine was steady, the air thick with leather and silence. It should have been peaceful — except peace wasn't something I ever got around her.

Odette sat beside me, small and too bright for this world, her presence somehow louder than noise itself. Even when she wasn't speaking, she filled the space — her breathing, the faint rustle of fabric, the warmth radiating from her seat.

My wolf was pacing.

As usual.

He'd been restless ever since I brought her with me. Every time she was near, he started growling under his breath like an animal chained too close to a flame. I could feel his impatience scraping against my skin.

I ignored him.

I'd been ignoring both of them — the wolf and the woman.

But she wasn't the kind of person who stayed ignored.

"Um," she started, hesitantly. "You know it's just tea, right? Why are you bringing so many people? What are we doing — declaring war on a café?"
