Chapter 14 – The Captive of Light

---

The scout's body lay crumpled, his blood soaking into the cavern floor. Altair stood over him, face drenched red, chest heaving.

The knight howled, his sword lashing wildly. "You dare kill a human, filth?!"

The priest's chants grew louder, holy light pouring over the knight, making his strikes deadlier. The archer loosed arrow after arrow, driving the surviving goblins back.

Yet the fight had shifted. The goblins were battered, dying—but no longer broken. They had seen Altair draw human blood, and with it came a spark of belief.

---

Seraphina—the mage—raised her staff, fire dancing along its crystal. But before she could release the spell, Altair lunged with desperate speed.

His jagged stone smashed into her staff, sending it clattering across the cave. She stumbled, falling to the ground with a cry.

Altair pinned her down, claws crushing her wrists. Her blonde hair spilled across the dirt, her eyes flashing with rage and fear.

"Let me go, monster!" she spat.

Altair's gaze locked onto hers—not the dull eyes of a beast, but burning with fury and cold intelligence. "You're not going anywhere. From this moment… you belong to me."

---

The knight surged forward, roaring, but the last goblins threw themselves in his path. Their bodies were cut down, but their sacrifice slowed him. Lila hurled her final stone, striking his helmet, forcing him back for an instant.

"Seraphina!" the priest cried.

But Altair had already dragged her deeper into the cavern, away from their reach.

He snarled at the adventurers, raising his bloodied stone over her head. "Step closer, and she dies."

The knight froze, trembling with fury. The archer lowered his bow. The priest's prayers faltered.

For the first time, the humans hesitated.

---

Seraphina writhed in his grip, her body trembling between defiance and terror. "You think you can hold me? The knights will return and slaughter you!"

Altair leaned close, his voice low and sharp. "Perhaps. But now you are mine. And you will remain mine."

He barked at the others. "Move. We're leaving."

With their wounded bodies and dying strength, the goblins followed him as he dragged Seraphina into the mist. The knight tried to pursue, but the forest swallowed them, the mage vanishing into shadow.

---

That night, in a deeper cave, Seraphina sat bound with twisted roots, her breath uneven. Her once-pristine robes were torn, her hair disheveled. Still, her sapphire eyes burned with defiance.

Altair sat across from her, eyes glinting in the firelight.

"Why… why didn't you kill me?" she demanded, voice trembling.

Altair's answer was cold, deliberate. "Because your death is worthless. Alive, you are far more valuable."

Her brow furrowed. "Valuable… how?"

Altair's grin was grim, cruel. "You will be my first human breeder."

Her eyes widened in horror. "What—?!"

Lila and Mira exchanged uneasy glances, torn between fear, jealousy, and a dark understanding.

Altair continued, voice heavy with promise. "From your womb, a new generation will be born. Stronger than goblins. Hybrids of human and monster. You will carry the beginning of my empire."

---

Altair gazed into the flickering fire. "Today I slew a human. Today I captured one. This is the beginning. With Seraphina, I carve a new path—not only vengeance, but dominion."

His eyes narrowed, glowing like embers. "Alice. Luthien. Thror. Mugnash. Cheka. I will hunt you all. The world will learn: Altair did not die. Altair was reborn… as a disaster."

The fire crackled, shadows crawling across the cave walls. Behind him, Seraphina's furious glare burned, but her chains held.

And thus began the story of his first captive, the first seed of his dark harem, and the first step toward his empire of hybrids.
