Chapter 71 - Talk of Peace

Nate had returned to his family house after the chaos in Ryūgū.

Apparently, everyone else had their own problems to deal with in the sea.

Moka and Emma had encountered several rogue Yokai causing trouble around the kingdom and Wiz had ended up helping them deal with the situation.

Nate had barely finished hearing the story when he casually mentioned what had happened in the Sea Prison.

"Alucard escaped."

Moka immediately froze.

Her eyes widened, and her expression turned pale.

"Alucard?!"

Nate quickly realized that mentioning that name had been a mistake.

"Moka, calm down. He's not here."

"But he escaped!"

"I know."

"That's bad!"

"I know."

"He's the original vampire!"

"I know!"

Moka grabbed Nate's shoulders. "Nate, you don't understand how dangerous he is!"

Nate sighed.

'Moka is panicking. Okay, definitely don't mention that I fought him.'

He gently placed a hand on her head.

"He's dangerous. I know that. But I'm not going to let him hurt you or anyone else."

Moka slowly calmed down.

"...You promise?"

"Promise."

She nodded, still looking worried.

Nearby, Emma quietly glanced at Wiz.

"So that's the Alucard everyone's been talking about?"

Wiz nodded nervously.

"Apparently."

Emma looked toward Nate.

"He fought him?"

Wiz blinked.

"I think so."

Emma stared.

"...He's insane."

Wiz gave a small smile.

"That's Nate."

Later that day, Nate stepped outside and called Serafall.

It didn't take long before a familiar magical circle appeared.

Serafall stepped through with her usual cheerful smile.

"Nate-kun!"

She immediately jumped forward.

Nate barely had time to react before Serafall landed comfortably on his lap and gave him a quick peck on the lips.

Nate simply stared at her.

"Nice to see you again, Ice Fairy."

Serafall giggled.

"Nice to see you too!"

She leaned back slightly, still sitting on his lap.

"So, have you thought about it?"

Nate raised an eyebrow.

"About what?"

Serafall puffed out her cheeks.

"The meeting, silly!"

"Oh. Right."

Nate nodded.

"Yeah. I've thought about it."

Serafall's expression became more serious.

"And?"

Nate smiled.

"I'll allow the Three Factions to have their peace talk in the Yokai Faction."

Serafall's eyes immediately lit up.

"Really?!"

"Yeah."

Nate crossed his arms.

"Yokai territory is neutral ground, and considering the whole point of the meeting is peace, I don't see a reason to refuse."

Serafall practically sparkled.

"Nate-kun, you're the best!"

Nate chuckled.

"Just remember, no fighting."

Serafall saluted playfully.

"Of course!"

Nate stared at her.

"...You're a Devil."

"I can behave!"

Nate gave her a skeptical look.

Serafall smiled innocently.

"...Most of the time."

Nate sighed.

'This meeting is going to be a disaster.'

Serafall's playful expression slowly faded.

The cheerful smile of "Sera-chan" disappeared, replaced by the calm, dignified expression of the Leviathan of the Satan Faction.

She stood up from Nate's lap and straightened her clothes.

"I will be going now. I need to report this to Sirzechs. He can then inform the other two faction leaders."

Nate nodded.

"Alright. Tell them the Yokai Faction welcomes them."

Serafall gave him a formal nod.

"Understood, Your Majesty."

For a moment, Nate stared at her.

Then he smirked.

"You know, hearing you call me that is still weird."

Serafall's serious expression cracked slightly.

"Well, you are the Yokai King."

"Yeah, but five minutes ago you were sitting on my lap."

Serafall's cheeks turned pink.

"That is completely unrelated!"

Nate chuckled.

"Sure, Ice Fairy."

Serafall smiled before turning toward the magical circle.

"I'll see you soon, Nate-kun."

"See you."

The magical circle activated, and Serafall disappeared.

Nate watched the spot where she had vanished.

'Well... that's one problem solved.'

He paused.

'Now I just have to prepare for a meeting between Angels, Devils, Fallen Angels, and the entire Yokai faction.'

His expression slowly became concerned.

'...This is going to be a headache.'

Nate took a deep breath and looked down at his Yokai Watch.

"I should tell Yasaka about this."

He headed toward the main residence, already imagining how the conversation would go.

A few minutes later, he found Yasaka.

"Yasaka, I have some news."

Yasaka looked up from what she was doing.

"What is it?"

Nate rubbed the back of his head.

"I agreed to let the Three Factions hold their peace meeting here in Kyoto."

There was a moment of silence.

Yasaka's eyes widened.

"You agreed to WHAT?!"

Nate blinked.

"The peace meeting."

"I heard you!"

Yasaka immediately stood up.

"Kyoto?! The Angels, Devils, and Fallen Angels are all coming here?!"

"Yes."

Yasaka wasn't worried about whether Kyoto could physically defend itself.

Between the Spirit Bond, the leyline network, and the direct protection of Amaterasu herself, Kyoto was practically one of the worst places imaginable to start a war.

If the Three Factions somehow decided to start fighting here...

Yasaka didn't even want to imagine what would happen.

'They'd be dust.'

No, the real problem was something much more terrifying.

Yasaka suddenly started thinking.

"How many people are coming?"

Nate paused.

"I don't know."

"How long are they staying?"

"...I don't know."

"What are we serving them?"

Nate's eyes widened.

"Wait."

"What kind of atmosphere should we create? We need proper accommodations. We need food. We need refreshments. What about security arrangements? Decorations? Meeting rooms? Gifts for the guests?"

"Yasaka—"

"And what if they have dietary restrictions?!"

Nate slowly took one step backward.

Yasaka was already in full preparation mode.

"The guest rooms need to be perfect. We can't have the Devils complaining about the bedding. The Angels might prefer something more traditional. The Fallen Angels—"

She stopped.

"Do Fallen Angels drink coffee?"

Nate stared at her.

"...Probably?"

"Then we need coffee."

She immediately started making a mental checklist.

Nate recognized that look.

It was the look of a Japanese mother who had just learned that several dozen unexpected guests were coming over.

And apparently, the entire supernatural world was now her responsibility.

Nate slowly turned his head.

His mother, Lily, was standing nearby.

She had heard everything.

Lily's expression had the exact same look.

"Oh no."

Nate stared at her.

"Mom?"

Lily was already thinking aloud.

"We'll need to make sure everyone has somewhere comfortable to sit. And if they're coming from overseas, they might want something familiar to eat. Oh, and we should probably prepare tea..."

Nate's eyes slowly widened.

There were now two of them.

Yasaka continued listing preparations.

Lily began making her own list.

Nate quietly took another step backward.

'Nope.'

Another step.

'This is beyond my pay grade.'

He turned around.

And quietly walked away.

Behind him, Yasaka and Lily continued planning the most elaborate peace meeting in supernatural history.

Nate sighed.

'I'm the Yokai King. I can fight Alucard.'

He glanced back.

'But I am absolutely not fighting two Japanese moms preparing for guests.'

Nate walked outside, finally escaping the house.

Kurumu was waiting for him near the entrance. She looked at his exhausted expression and raised an eyebrow.

"So, how did it go?"

Nate stared at the Succubus for a moment.

"Both moms are panicking."

Kurumu blinked.

"...Both?"

"Yasaka and Lily."

Kurumu immediately understood.

"Oh."

Nate nodded solemnly.

"They've entered preparation mode."

Kurumu covered her mouth, trying not to laugh.

"How bad?"

Nate looked toward the house.

"I heard Yasaka asking whether the Fallen Angels drink coffee."

Kurumu burst out laughing.

"Yep. They're doomed."

Nate sighed.

"I'm the Yokai King. I've fought armies. I've fought Alucard. I've dealt with political negotiations."

He paused.

"But I don't know how to stop a mother from preparing for unexpected guests."

Kurumu wiped a tear from her eye.

"Nobody does, Nate."

Nate nodded.

"I figured."

Kurumu smiled and slipped her arm around his.

"So what are you going to do?"

Nate immediately started walking away.

"Stay as far away from the kitchen as possible."

Kurumu laughed.

"Smart man."

Nate shrugged.

"Yeah."

Kurumu looked at him with a small smile. "So, what now?"

Nate shrugged again.

"You tell me. The Hero Factions won't be here for another few hours, so I can't tell them about the meeting and tell everyone to get ready."

Kurumu's smile became a little more mischievous.

"Then let's spend the time together."

Nate looked at her.

"...I have a feeling I know what you're suggesting."

Kurumu giggled.

"Maybe."

Nate sighed, then picked her up in a bridal carry.

"Fine."

Kurumu immediately cheered.

"Yay!"

Nate carried her toward his room while shaking his head.

"A few hours of peace before the political chaos begins."

Kurumu smiled.

"Exactly."

A few hours later...

Nate slowly walked out of his room.

His hair was messy, his clothes were slightly disheveled, and he looked completely exhausted.

He took one step into the hallway.

Then another.

Hailey happened to walk past.

She stopped.

She looked at Nate.

Then at his condition.

Then back at Nate.

Nate looked at her.

Hailey stared silently.

Nate sighed.

"Don't ask."

Hailey's eyebrow twitched.

"I wasn't going to."

She continued walking.

After a few seconds, she muttered under her breath.

"...Actually, I probably shouldn't."

Nate just kept walking.

'At least nobody asked.'

Nate continued down the hallway, trying his best to look like a perfectly normal person who had absolutely nothing to explain.

He made it about ten steps before he heard footsteps behind him.

"Nate?"

He stopped.

Mizore was standing there, looking at him with her usual calm expression.

She glanced at his messy hair.

Then at his tired eyes.

Then toward his bedroom.

Her eyes narrowed slightly.

"...Are you okay?"

Nate nodded.

"Perfectly fine."

Mizore stared at him.

Nate stared back.

"...I'm going to choose to believe you."

"Thank you."

She walked alongside him.

"So, are you going to tell everyone about the meeting?"

Nate's expression immediately became more serious.

"Right. The meeting."

Mizore nodded.

"The Three Factions?"

"Yeah. Serafall is going to inform Sirzechs, and then the other faction leaders. They'll be coming here for the peace talks."

Mizore thought about that for a moment.

"That sounds important."

"It is."

Nate sighed.

"Which is why I need to tell everyone before they arrive."

They turned the corner.

Unfortunately, Nate immediately spotted Yasaka.

She was carrying several papers, followed by Lily, who was carrying even more.

Both women looked extremely focused.

Nate stopped walking.

Mizore looked at him.

"...Those are your mothers."

"Yes."

"They're still preparing?"

"Apparently."

Yasaka spotted him.

"Nate! There you are!"

Nate's soul nearly left his body.

Yasaka hurried over.

"I've been looking everywhere for you! We need to know exactly how many guests are coming!"

Nate slowly raised his hands.

"I don't know yet."

Yasaka froze.

"You don't know?"

"I know the Three Factions are coming. I don't know the exact number."

Lily immediately started writing something down.

"Then we'll prepare for more than expected."

Nate blinked.

"How much more?"

Lily smiled.

"Enough."

Nate stared at his mother.

'That is the most terrifying answer she could have given me.'

Yasaka suddenly looked determined.

"Also, Nate, we need to decide where the meeting will actually be held."

Nate nodded.

"That's easy. Somewhere secure, neutral, and close enough to the leyline network."

Yasaka smiled.

"I already have three locations in mind."

Nate sighed.

"Of course you do."

Mizore quietly leaned toward him.

"Should I help?"

Nate looked at her.

"...Please."

Mizore nodded.

"I'll get the others."

Nate watched her walk away.

Then he looked at Yasaka and Lily.

Both were already discussing seating arrangements.

Nate sighed.

"Okay."

He pulled out his Yokai Watch.

"Time to tell everyone."

A moment later, Whisper appeared beside him.

"Master Nate! What is happening?"

Nate looked at the ghost.

"The Three Factions are coming to Kyoto."

Whisper's jaw dropped.

"THE THREE FACTIONS?!"

"Yep."

Whisper stared at him.

"...How many chairs do we have?"

Nate paused.

"That's actually a good question."

From behind them, Lily immediately answered.

"Not enough."

Nate slowly closed his eyes.

'This meeting is going to be enormous.'

A few minutes later, the Hero Faction finally returned from their mission.

They looked tired, but otherwise seemed to be in good spirits.

Heracles stepped forward and gave Nate a report.

"We completed the mission you assigned to us. We found the Yokai trafficking ring and dismantled it. The perpetrators have been dealt with, and the victims have been taken somewhere safe."

Nate nodded approvingly.

"Good work. That's exactly what I wanted."

The others relaxed slightly.

Nate then looked around at the entire group.

"Now, there's something important you all need to know."

Everyone became attentive.

"Tomorrow, the Three Factions will be coming to Kyoto."

There was a brief silence.

"The Angels, Devils, and Fallen Angels will be holding a peace meeting here. Serafall is reporting it to Sirzechs, and he'll inform the other two leaders."

Several members of the Hero Faction exchanged looks.

Nate continued.

"Kyoto is going to be neutral ground. Nobody starts anything, nobody provokes anyone, and nobody decides to demonstrate how powerful they are."

He looked directly at the group.

"Don't do anything dumb."

Everyone nodded.

Nate then pointed toward Heracles.

"And especially don't give that speech."

Heracles immediately looked offended.

"But we have been working on that speech for months!"

Nate stared at him.

"That's why I'm scared."

The entire room went silent.

Heracles slowly lowered the papers he had been holding.

"...You wound me, King Nate."

"I've seen the draft."

"You have?"

"Yes."

"And?"

Nate's expression remained completely serious.

"It starts with the words, 'Brothers and sisters of this world, hear my voice.'"

Heracles smiled proudly.

"Strong opening, isn't it?"

Nate covered his face.

"No. That's exactly the problem."

Someone in the Hero Faction quietly whispered, "I thought it was pretty good."

Nate immediately pointed at them.

"Don't encourage him."

Heracles looked down at his speech.

"But I had a section about unity."

"Keep that part."

"And justice."

"Fine."

"And the importance of standing together against evil."

"Also fine."

Heracles smiled.

"And then there's the part where I challenge the leaders of the Three Factions to prove their conviction through combat."

Nate stared at him.

"...Burn the speech."

Heracles clutched the papers to his chest.

"Never!"

Nate sighed.

'Tomorrow is going to be a very long day.'

To be continue.
