Chapter 6 - Kuroka

Yasaka was seating with Lily, as the looked at the girl next she is a a beautiful, voluptuous woman with long black hair, cat-like hazel-gold eyes, and a black kimono, but she seems frazzled as was on the run for a while

It took a few days to track her down, both by the Yokai and Devil's effort, as she looked like she hadn't rest in a while.

Yasaka spoke in gentle voice as she looked at the girl. "Please tell us, what did the Naberius family do to you".

Hearing does word's Kuroka started to hipper ventilate, as she was but then something came over her, as she took deep breath she looked up too see Yellow like Cloud smiling at her as it looked at her with a smile, the aura around him, made her feel relax, and kinds happy

[Insert image of Happierre]

Lily looked at Happierre as she spoke. "Thank you Happierre for answering my calls".

Kuroka's chest rose and fell sharply, but as Happierre's aura wrapped around her like a warm blanket, the tremors in her hands slowed. She blinked at the little floating Yo-kai, his ever-present goofy grin oddly comforting. For the first time in weeks, her body wasn't on constant alert.

Kuroka whispered, her voice hoarse. "They… they wanted me to be nothing more than a tool. My master forced me to experiment on my own body. On my sister's body. He said our lineage—the Nekoshou—was perfect for his research. We weren't people. We were… breeding stock and lab rats."

Lily's fist clenched so tight the veins on her hand bulged, but she kept her tone even. "And when you resisted?"

Kuroka looked down, shame and fury mixing in her eyes. "I killed him. I had to. I thought it would end there. But instead… instead they branded me a criminal. A stray. They called me a monster for killing the man who made me one."

Her voice cracked, and for a moment, she looked like the frightened young woman she truly was—not the infamous stray devil whispered about.

Yasaka leaned forward, her nine tails faintly flickering with restrained rage, but her voice was steady. "You did what you had to do. That isn't a crime here. The true monsters are the ones who forced you into it."

Happierre bobbed in the air, spreading his aura even further, and Kuroka felt tears spill down her cheeks unbidden. "You… you actually believe me?"

Lily adjusted her glasses, her tone sharp but protective. "Believe you? Girl, I just watched you nearly break down from the trauma. That's not the act of a liar—it's the scar of a survivor."

Yasaka nodded, her golden eyes glinting. "Rest, Kuroka. You're under our protection now. Whatever devils come for you will have to go through me and the entire Yokai Faction first."

Kuroka's lips parted slightly, trembling, before she whispered the first words of relief she'd said in years: "…thank you."

Happierre pumped his little fists, cheering, "HAPPY TIMES AHEAD!"

For the first time in forever, Kuroka almost believed it.

Yasaka leaned forward slightly, her golden eyes soft but unrelenting. "Kuroka… why did you agree to go with that man in the first place?"

Kuroka's ears drooped, her voice barely above a whisper. "Because… he offered us a home. My parents had already passed away. I thought… maybe, just maybe, my little sister could live a proper life under his roof."

Her hands trembled as she clenched the fabric of her kimono, knuckles white.

Lily gently placed a hand over hers, steady and warm. "Then why betray that promise? Why take advantage of children who only wanted safety?"

Kuroka's breath hitched as the memories clawed their way back. Her hazel-gold eyes shimmered with pain. "Because of my Senjutsu. He wanted to create a 'super devil'—something beyond even a High-class. I was nothing but an experiment to him. When I failed to meet his expectations, he turned his eyes on… her."

Her voice cracked, and she covered her mouth for a moment before forcing herself to continue.

"He said my sister had greater potential. That she would succeed where I failed. He wanted to… break her the way he broke me. And I—" Kuroka's nails dug into her palm, drawing blood as her body shook. "I snapped. He lied. He broke his promise. So I killed him."

Tears trailed down her cheeks now, but her gaze hardened through them. "And to protect my sister… I told her it was my choice. That I killed him out of cruelty, not desperation. I let her hate me—because if she hated me, she wouldn't be targeted. She'd have a chance to live."

Yasaka's tails swayed, flickering with fury, though her voice remained calm. "So you became the villain in your own sister's story, just to keep her safe."

Kuroka lowered her head, biting her lip until it bled. "…Yes. If carrying that burden meant Shirone could live, then I'll carry it until my death."

Happierre floated closer, his aura wrapping tighter around her as if to push back the crushing weight. Lily's glasses glinted as she squeezed Kuroka's hand.

"You're not a monster, Kuroka," Lily said firmly. "You're a sister. A damn good one, if you ask me."

For the first time, Kuroka's lips curved upward—not a smirk, not a mask, but the faintest, most fragile smile.

Kuroka lifted her head slowly, her ears twitching, voice tentative but heavy. "There's something I need to ask… I heard rumors about the Nekoshou massacre. Were they… were they all…?"

Yasaka's golden eyes darkened with grief. She shook her head gently. "No. Not all. Lily and I managed to intervene before the slaughter was complete. But…" her voice faltered for a moment, "…twenty percent of our people were lost that day."

Kuroka's breath caught, her gaze dropping to the floor. Her claws curled against her palm until they trembled. Happierre's aura instinctively spread around her, soothing, like invisible hands wrapping her broken pieces together.

Her voice quivered when she spoke again. "…And the Naberius family?"

Lily's expression hardened, her glasses catching the faint light as she met Kuroka's eyes. "The Satans themselves passed judgment. The Naberius line has been wiped from history."

She leaned forward, her tone quieter, more personal. "We also discovered their hidden resource vaults. Records. Experiments. Files. Most of them untouched, locked away in secret archives."

Her hand tightened around Kuroka's. "Kuroka… a large portion of those records… they're yours."

The words hit like thunder. Kuroka froze, her breath shallow, eyes wide in disbelief. "…Mine…?"

Yasaka nodded, her tails swaying slowly. "Evidence of everything they did to you. Every experiment. Every broken promise. It's all written there, waiting to be seen."

For the first time, Kuroka's mask cracked—not with anger, but with raw vulnerability. Tears welled in her eyes, spilling as her body shook. "So… it wasn't just me imagining things. I wasn't… crazy. It really happened."

Lily gave her hand another squeeze, firm and warm. "No, you weren't crazy. You were a victim. But now… you have the chance to reclaim the truth."

Yasaka's voice was soft, almost hesitant. "Kuroka… do you want to meet your sister?"

Kuroka flinched, her claws tightening in her sleeves. Her ears drooped as she shook her head slowly. "…I don't think I'm ready to see her again. Not yet. I… I've told her too many lies. She deserves better than me." Her gaze dimmed, but then she whispered, almost as if confessing to herself, "I just… wish I could protect someone else. At least then… I'd have a reason to keep moving forward."

Lily's lips curved into a knowing smile. "Then in that case… you can."

She gestured, and one of the attendant yōkai bowed before hurrying out of the chamber. The silence lingered for a few minutes until the door slid open again. Two small figures stepped inside.

Yasaka rose, her tails swaying proudly as she pulled one of them closer. "This is my daughter, Kunou." The little fox-girl peeked shyly from behind her mother, her bright eyes curious but unafraid.

Then Lily guided the other child forward with gentle hands. "And this," she said warmly, "is my son, Nate."

Nate tilted his head, his expression puzzled at first—until his gaze fell on Kuroka. Something about her aura, tired yet kind, made him relax.

Kuroka froze. Her breath caught in her throat. For an instant, she thought she saw her sister's younger face reflected in theirs—the innocence she'd wanted to protect, the bond she'd longed to keep. Her lips trembled, but instead of speaking, she simply smiled.

It wasn't forced. It wasn't the sly, playful grin she often wore to hide her pain. It was small, fragile, and real.

"…So this is what you're asking of me," she murmured. "To protect them."

Yasaka and Lily both nodded.

And in that moment, for the first time in years, Kuroka felt her heart ease.

A year slipped by like water through the fingers. Nate was seven now, and in that time, he had learned much about the strange, mixed world he found himself in.

One of the first shocks was discovering that the Youkai had their own power system—not just the devils' ranking of Low Class, Middle Class, High Class, Ultimate Class, Satan Class, and Superclass.

No, the Youkai used something different:

E → D for Low Class,

B for Middle Class,

A → SS for High Class,

SSS → Z for Ultimate Class,

ZZ → UZ for Satan Class,

and finally, UZ+ for Superclass.

It was simpler on paper, but the way Yasaka explained it made Nate's head spin at first. Still, he memorized it. Knowledge was power—and he was the future Youkai King, after all.

Meanwhile, Kuroka had changed too. Over the year, she healed. Her laugh returned, her teasing spark rekindled… and to Nate's horror, she began to resemble her canon self more and more.

'Why couldn't your personality change into something sweet!?' he cried in his mind, face red whenever she ruffled his hair or called him "kitty boy."

Still, despite the embarrassment, Nate admitted it wasn't the worst thing in the world. She was safe, free, and no longer a fugitive. The charges were dropped, and the Devils no longer hunted her.

The only lingering issue was her Evil Pieces. Bound to her body, they kept her half-devil until further notice. Whether she could be restored fully to her Youkai heritage depended on the gods—specifically, the judgment of the Japanese Kami or Lady Amaterasu herself. Until then, Kuroka remained in-between.

But today, Nate had no time to dwell on such things. Today was training day.

In the yard of Yasaka's home, he stood with a wooden sword clutched tight in his hands. Beside him, Kunou sparkled with confidence, her fox tails swaying proudly as she prepared for her own turn.

Nate closed his eyes, breathing slowly. Spirit Bond… come on, focus. Call to it.

'The land, please lend me your power,' he whispered in his heart.

A hum vibrated through the air. His wooden blade shimmered faintly before a thin layer of frost spread across it. The sword glowed with the chill of new strength.

Nate's eyes flew open. "I… I did it!"

"Yay!" Kunou clapped excitedly, tails swishing. Yasaka joined her with a graceful smile, hands lightly applauding.

Compared to him, Kunou was a natural—an heir to a nine-tailed fox line, overflowing with raw talent. Nate couldn't deny it sometimes stung, but at the same time, it reminded him of something vital.

He wasn't perfect. He wasn't instantly overpowered. And that was okay.

'I wanted to be strong, but not some broken isekai MC who never works for it, he thought, gripping his frosted blade tighter. Struggle makes the growth real. If I want to be king, it has to be earned.'

For the first time in days, he felt that spark of pride again.

Kuroka chuckled as she suddenly swooped down, pulling Nate flush against her. His little body squirmed as the back of his head was buried between her sizable breasts.

"Aww, nyah~ look at you," she purred, stroking his hair with mischief in her eyes. "So cool and frosty now. My little icicle kitty."

Nate's face went crimson. "M-Mmphh!!"

The sound he made was somewhere between a squeak and a panicked squawk. With a burst of desperation, he channeled Spirit Bond into his sandals—ice humming beneath his feet—and shot forward like a rocket.

"Y-You're embarrassing meee!" he cried as he bolted out the door.

Kuroka blinked at the sudden gust of wind, blinking once before her lips curved into a sly grin. "Ara ara~ fast little one."

Kunou doubled over laughing. "He ran like the wind!"

Yasaka, however, didn't laugh. Rising to her feet, her eyes narrowed as her tails swayed thoughtfully. "He ran into the forest… alone."

Lily adjusted her glasses, concern flickering across her expression. "The Youkai Forest isn't safe for a child, even one as blessed as Nate. There are spirits there that prey on wandering energy."

Yasaka nodded firmly, gathering her ki. "Let's follow him. Who knows what he'll run into."

Kuroka's teasing expression softened for the briefest moment, her cat-like eyes sharp as she stood. "If anyone harms him, they'll regret it."

The three women exchanged a look—then, in unspoken agreement, they leapt after Nate, tails of golden light, witchcraft, and feline grace streaking into the depths of the Youkai Forest.
