Chapter 5 - Chapter 5 - Devil Fruits Or Cursed Techniques?

Gojo's rigorous training regimen to reclaim his cursed energy and cursed techniques had commenced. He was desperate to restore himself to his former glory as "the strongest," though that title held meaning only within his original world.

Even if he successfully regained both Limitless and his cursed techniques, he would still not be recognized as the strongest in this new reality.

To earn that distinction here, he would need to train relentlessly and achieve complete mastery of Haki. After all, this world contained far more formidable opponents—individuals who had perfected their Haki to levels rivaling Shanks and other elite warriors.

Even possessing Limitless, cursed energy, cursed techniques, and the Six Eyes would prove insufficient against those who had truly mastered Haki. Against such adversaries, Gojo would still find himself overpowered.

Consider Kaidō as an example—without first understanding this world's power system, engaging him in combat would be tantamount to a rat challenging a lion in its own den.

To ascend through the ranks, Gojo must first achieve complete mastery of his cursed techniques while simultaneously progressing through each stage of Haki development.

Furthermore, even if he supplemented his abilities by consuming a Devil Fruit, this still wouldn't guarantee him a position among the top ten strongest individuals in this world.

There exists an important principle regarding Devil Fruits: even the most seemingly insignificant ability can become devastating in capable hands, just as the most powerful fruit might prove worthless when wielded by an incompetent user.

Every Devil Fruit user must undergo rigorous physical training and push their abilities to the absolute limit before achieving awakening—this is non-negotiable.

The reality was clear: Gojo faced an arduous journey ahead. Countless opponents awaited him, each offering valuable lessons if he hoped to reclaim the title of "the strongest"—a far more challenging prospect than in his original world of sorcerers.

His immediate priority, however, must be reclaiming his lost powers before considering whether to join the pirates, marines, or operate as a bounty hunter. At minimum, restoring his abilities would provide adequate defense against lower-tier threats.

That said, regaining the Six Eyes, Limitless, cursed energy, and cursed techniques would grant Gojo one significant advantage: the capacity to harm Logia-type Devil Fruit users, as cursed energy functions similarly to Armament Haki.

However, this advantage has limitations. Against a Logia user like Akainu—who has trained his abilities to the point of awakening—Gojo would find himself completely ineffective unless he learned to infuse his cursed energy with Haki.

But such concerns could wait. For now, there was work to be done.

Sweat cascaded down Gojo's furrowed brow as he crouched, hands on knees, struggling to steady his breathing. He had pushed himself through over an hour of intense running just to maintain peak physical condition.

His daily regimen included one hundred repetitions each of push-ups, sit-ups, and squats—yet despite this exhaustive routine, he still sensed something fundamentally lacking within himself.

What had truly awakened his cursed energy before? Was it the surge of emotion during his battle with Bazzarelli?

His thoughts drifted to his time training Itadori Yuji, the supposed protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen in his former world. This recollection prompted several questions: Shouldn't the main character naturally be the strongest? Why then had Satoru Gojo dominated the narrative more than Yuji? Why was Gojo universally acknowledged as the strongest? Was he the strongest because he was Satoru Gojo, or was he Satoru Gojo because he was the strongest?

He should have been the protagonist of the series, given that Yuji never truly embodied the conventional role of a main character—unlike most protagonists in the anime world.

He was acutely aware that emotion served as a crucial catalyst for activating cursed energy. Yet, despite this knowledge, why had he failed to reignite it since his arrival? There had to be a missing piece—something vital that would complete the puzzle.

"Damn!"

Days of relentless training had yielded no tangible progress.

"That's enough for today."

Slipping his shirt back on, he headed toward the hotel, eager for respite. Rumors of pirates lurking in town had reached his ears, but thus far, he had neither encountered them nor sought them out—not yet, at least.

Since his altercation with that pirate, Gojo had kept a low profile, avoiding unnecessary attention. The last thing he needed was marine interference.

Rather than idly extracting information from strangers, he immersed himself in the world's history, frequenting libraries to devour records and chronicles. Knowledge, he realized, was power—far more reliable than hearsay.

As he stepped into the hotel lobby, murmurs trailed in his wake. Patrons often wondered why he returned drenched in sweat, day after day.

None of them knew.

None understood the grueling regimen he endured—the sacrifices, the singular obsession driving him forward, as vital to him as life itself.

"Weird."

Their stifled snickers didn't escape his notice, but he dismissed them without a second thought. His focus remained unshaken: achieve his goal, then decide his path in this world—pirate, marine, or bounty hunter.

The choice was his alone, but first…

Eat. Read.

Books had become an unexpected passion—a stark contrast to his indifference toward them in his past life.

After a quick shower, he dressed meticulously, trading his signature blindfold for sleek dark sunglasses.

The moment he stepped outside, his cologne lingered in the air, an intoxicating trail that turned heads as he passed.

His destination? A high-end restaurant, where he ordered a premium steak and a flute of champagne to sate his hunger.

The hotel was a five-star establishment—opulent, sprawling, its grandeur evident in every architectural detail. And the funds financing his lavish lifestyle? Plundered from the very pirates he had defeated.

Dabbing his lips with a linen handkerchief, he finished his drink and rose to leave. Soft music played in the background—a romantic melody better suited for a candlelit dinner than a solitary meal.

"I should get myself a girlfriend."

The thought flitted through his mind, frivolous yet persistent, before he pushed it aside and headed to the nearest library.

The librarian smiled as he entered. It wasn't every day she saw a man in his twenties so enthralled by books. She had noticed his preference—how he always gravitated toward aged, weathered times rather than the glossy new arrivals.

"Good day, sir!" She greeted the snow-haired man warmly.

"Good afternoon, ma'am," Gojo murmured with a casual wave, his eyes already scanning the shelves as he moved toward them.

He understood he might not find the exact book he sought, yet he remained content to glean whatever knowledge he could from the volumes he'd been studying.

Wandering through the aisles, his fingers trailed along spines until they paused at a particularly imposing tome: 'The Devil Fruit Encyclopedia'. With deliberate motion, he extracted the massive crimson-bound book from its place.

The volume's pristine condition—its unblemished cover and crisp pages—spoke volumes about the librarian's meticulous daily care. This attention to detail didn't surprise him; every visit revealed spotless shelves and meticulously maintained collections. What did strike him as peculiar was the library's consistent emptiness—he'd never seen more than ten patrons during any visit.

Cradling the heavy book, he settled onto a nearby bench. "Devil Fruits, huh?" He mused aloud, an intrigued smile tugging at his lips as he opened to the first page.

"Devil Fruits are supernatural fruits that grant unique powers when consumed, at the cost of the eater's ability to swim," he read. The description immediately summoned memories of Yuji ingesting Sukuna's finger, becoming the King of Curses' vessel. "Unique powers... swimming impairment... The first part somewhat resembles cursed techniques," he pondered.

Hours slipped away as he absorbed the text, his mind cataloging each detail with precision.

"A Devil Fruit's power can only be held by one individual at a time, but will reincarnate into a new fruit after the user's death," he read, his interest intensifying. "Moreover, consuming multiple Devil Fruits results in instant death."

This is insane!

As daylight faded beyond the windows, he discovered the three Devil Fruit classifications: Paramecia, Zoan, and Logia.

"Now this is fascinating."

Paramecia—the most common type—bestowed diverse superhuman abilities. Zoan allowed transformation into animal forms. And Logia—the rarest and most formidable—granted control over natural elements, including complete bodily transmutation.

"Logia... the pinnacle of Devil Fruits," he murmured, resting his chin on his hand. "So they can become fire, lightning, gas, smoke, sand, even light itself?"

His expression grew pensive as he contemplated the implications.

"But how does one combat such abilities?" He wondered aloud. "This world must have developed countermeasures." A frown creased his brow. "If I encounter a Logia user, would cursed energy suffice?" The possibility unsettled him.

"This world's power scale dwarfs Jujutsu entirely."
