Chapter 12 - Spirits Fall Down

Gena: She teleported to the Orb of Origins because of a strange signal she received. Walking through the main meeting room, she saw Valkun leaning up against the table, appearing weaker than usual. "Valkun?"

Valkun: The table's indestructible metal plating was melting under his touch, "I gave you...one simple task...not to tell anyone. And what was the first thing you did?"

Gena: Her eyes widened. How did he find out? Did Eartakiel tell him? No, he wouldn't do that to her. How does he know that? "W-what are you talking about?..."

Valkun: He ripped a chunk of the metal off, throwing it her direction, "DO NOT PLAY DUMB WITH ME, WOMAN! I KNOW YOU TOLD EARTAKIEL ABOUT MY CONDITION!" The fire on his body erupted, and the magma hardened, strengthening his body.

Gena: She barely dodged the incoming object. She began shivering; she had never seen such anger inside of Valkun. "Lord, please just listen to me for a second."

Valkun: He stomped forward, "NO! I will not listen to you any longer."

Gena: She took a step back, "Listen, I just had to tell the other Lord about this, I thought that maybe he could find a way to fix you-"

Valkun: He thrust his hand through her gut, "I DO NOT NEED FIXING!" He raised her with his arm, stabbing his other hand into her gut before ripping her in half. "I DO NOT NEED ANY OF YOU!" With Gena's last flickering moments, she saw a figure of darkness stand behind Valkun in a cloak of black smoke, its red eyes glaring as her life slipped away.

His hands dripped with her silver blood; he panted heavily as he slowly regained his composure, realizing what he had done, he stumbled down to the floor. "No, no, this is not what I wanted-"

????: The figure within his head spoke, its tone cold and echoy, raspy like a shadow but clear like a man, "Aaah. There it is. Your truth you've held hidden under restraint." The smoke behind him pulsed, curling up in a crown of darkness.

"Do you feel it, Valkun? That flame. Finally free? She was the chain. Now..." The voice softened to a whisper, almost caressing. "Now you are clean again."

Valkun: He gripped his chest, bobbing his head, his voice cracking. "No. I didn't mean to. I just..."

????: "You did. You always wanted to. You just wouldn't admit it. You were born of fire, not compassion. You were born to burn, not lack control." The air trembled; the red in Valkun's eyes began to burn more intensely, reflecting the shadow's grin. "Let the shame die with her. Let the flames tell the tale for you now. If you want control, you have to eliminate the weaknesses..."

Valkun: His breathing became emotionless, less full of worry, and more controlled. "Yes...Of course." He raised his hand, burning Gena's body to ashes. He grabbed the scrap metal he threw, thrusting it into his shoulder. He grunted, causing fire-red blood to drip. "They will arrive soon..."

Eartakiel: The runic gateway flashed with earth colors as he rushed forward, sensing the strange shift in the universe, "WHAT HAPPENED?! I saw Gena's crown fly back to her homeworld to claim a new wearer!" He then noticed Valkun bleeding off to the side, holding his hand out toward him, his orange magic helping heal his wound. "Valkun, what happened?"

Valkun: He put on a worried expression, "I was talking with Gena about sharing more spirit orbs around, and suddenly the two of us were attacked by a strong force. I blacked out for a short bit." He played off that he was visibly upset at the fact that Gena's spirit was killed. "She did not deserve such a fate..." He held his arm up to Eartakiel.

Eartakiel: He grabbed Valkun's arm, helping him back up with minimal effort because of the size difference. "It is going to be alright, Valkun. We will find who did this and bring them to justice, I assure you. I will inform the other elementals of this tragedy and make sure they increase security. I would not want to lose any more friends."

Valkun: "Yes...of course. That is probably best, use the matrix orb to contact everyone and tell them of the trouble."

Eartakiel: He nodded, walking over to the table, tapping on the center to pull up a holographic orb of energy. He placed his finger inside of it and closed his eyes, sending a signal to the other elementals.

Valkun: His eyes narrowed, and his expression grew cold, holding his arm up to slash fire down on Eartakiel, but a dark force pulled him back away from him. "What is this..." He whispered, trying to make sure Eartakiel didn't break concentration or hear him.

????: The area grew cold as the voice spoke up again, "His time will come, but not now. Control remains itself by fear, but false trust brings illusion. You do not want every elemental army coming after you because you killed Eartakiel."

Valkun: He lowered his arm slowly. While it did upset him that he couldn't kill another person, he knew what the figure said made sense.

Eartakiel: He broke free from his trance, stepping back from the orb and turned toward Valkun, "Alright, I sent a signal to the others, they will hear the news soon." He noticed that it got colder briefly, but he ignored it. "You should get back to your homeworld, Valkun, if this killer finds out you survived their attack, they will come back again."

Valkun: He exhaled, calming himself down, or seemingly acting like it. "Right of course, I will inform my guards of the danger to ensure I also have higher security. Thank you for showing up, Eartakiel, you truly are great." He turned to head to his gate, his expression dropping as soon as he stepped onto the platform. He rubbed a small bit of Gena's blood between his fingertips before burning it away and transporting himself back home.
