Kaori looked at him, knowing that he was indirectly pleading with her not to report any of this to the principal. But something so grave? How could she overlook it?
"I don't know, Renji," she sighed. "I don't know. When faced with difficult decisions we must always do the right thing."
Renji lowered his face sadly.
He couldn't wait any longer. There was no changing Kaori's mind on this. He needed the Note. The Note would end this.
Renji lifted his cup and drained the bitter green tea in three long gulps—he hated the stuff, it tasted like lawn clippings—but he needed the moment. "Uhm, Teach… may I trouble you for another cup?"
She looked at him with a raised brow. "You're the first kid I've seen who likes green tea this much. But since we're waiting for the cops to show up…"
She rose. "Of course. Let me just refill the pot."
The second she turned her back, Renji's hand was in his bag.
