Chapter 9 - "Wolf in the Forest and Fire in the Sea"

Deep Inside the Forest

Among the thick trees, silence ruled the place.

Only the sound of rustling leaves and creaking branches echoed through the wind's fury.

Between the trunks, Khaled stood ready to fight — tense, alert.

A few meters away, a strange man faced him. Around his neck hung a necklace made of unknown fangs.

Man: "I like your courage."

Khaled: "Who are you? What do you want?!"

The stranger laughed softly.

Man: "Relax. I'm not your enemy."

Khaled's tone hardened.

Khaled: "I said—who are you?!"

The man replied coolly,

Man: "Name's Chris. They call me the Free Werewolf. And you're Khaled… right?"

Khaled's eyes widened.

Free Werewolf? he thought. He must be a mutant… Wait—how the hell does he know my name?! Damn it. He's been spying on us for a while.

Khaled: "How do you know my name? How long have you been watching us?"

Chris: "A few weeks."

Khaled: "Who are you working for?"

Chris: "No one.... Im alone."

Khaled: "Then tell me your story.... Give me one good reason not to end you right here."

Chris chuckled at Khaled's words.

Suddenly, faint voices broke through the wind — the laughter of village kids playing soccer nearby.

Chris's wolf senses picked them up instantly. His head turned sharply toward the sound.

Khaled didn't hear anything, but he noticed Chris's sudden change.

Chris (eyes focused toward the forest's edge): "It's getting late.... We'll meet again."

Khaled: "What?!"

In an instant, Chris transformed — his body erupted into a massive black-and-white werewolf with piercing blue eyes.

He bolted deep into the forest, vanishing between the trees.

Khaled shouted, "Hey!.... Wait!"

But it was useless. Chris was gone.

Khaled stood there, staring at the direction he'd disappeared.

" Maybe he's just a mutant looking for shelter, he thought. If he worked for the government, he wouldn't have just watched us all this time without attacking " .

Khaled turned back toward the village, his mind racing.

"He didn't show any fear when I confronted him… completely calm, confident — like he wanted me to see him. Hard guy to trust".

He stepped out of the forest and spotted the children playing near the trees.

"Hey! Get back home! It's dangerous here!" he scolded them.

As he followed them toward the village, his eyes narrowed.

"That's what he heard… those kids. "

"Should I tell the others about him?"

At Headquarters

Almy sat surrounded by glowing screens, her eyes shining white as she unleashed her powers — hacking into global communication networks, gathering information on world events.

The door opened. Stan walked in, followed by Connor.

Stan: "This is the monitoring room... Almy runs it."

Connor: "Wow… you guys look like a special ops team."

Almy glanced at them silently, her face showing clear irritation.

Her thinking : "How the hell did they let a new guy in here already? "

Stan: "Hey, you're here! How are you,

Almy?"

Almy: "I'm fine."

Stan smiled and gestured between them.

Stan (to Connor): "This is Almy, head of surveillance. Thanks to her powers, we tracked down you and Ethan."

Then to Almy:

Stan: "And this is Connor — one of the mutants you found in Spain."

Connor: "Actually, correction… I found them."

Stan: "What? Really?"

Almy: "He's not lying....I only saw

Ethan "

Connor (to Almy): "So… what's your power?"

Stan: "She can hack communication systems and internet networks with her mind."

Connor (mocking): "A walking radar. LOL."

Almy's eyes flared — insulted.

Almy: "Show some respect ... You get what you give."

Stan: "Okay, enough! We're on the same team now — no need to start a fight."

A smirk spread across Connor's face. He said nothing, turned, and headed out.

Connor: "See you later, bro."

Stan: "Yeah, later."

He turned to Almy, sighing, lifting his hands scolding her.

Stan: "What did you do ?!"

Almy: "He started it!"

Stan: "Seriously? You just met the guy!"

Almy: "Why'd you bring him here anyway? We barely know him. He acts like a jerk. How can you trust him?.....We can't just trust new people right away."

Stan: "Calm down, you're overreacting. You seem tense today."

Almy: "Tense?! He was mocking me!"

Stan: "Wow… that was your first meeting!"

Almy: "And I hope it's the last. I'll tell Khaled about him."

Stan: "Tell him what? That he hurt your feelings?"

Almy: "That he's arrogant and can't be trusted."

Stan: "We're not in kindergarten, Almy!"

Almy: "I refuse to work with someone like that."

Stan: "Enough drama for one day.... I need a break from all this noise."

Meanwhile

Khaled walked through the village toward headquarters.

He ran into Boris, who was carrying a bag on his shoulder.

Khaled: "Heading out?"

Boris (grinning): "College calls, my friend."

Khaled: "Good luck, bro. Stay low and keep your phone on."

Boris: "My phone? Why?"

Khaled: "So you'll stay within Almy's network range."

Boris: "Right… good point. See you later, bro."

Khaled: "Take care of yourself."

Khaled continued on until he reached headquarters and stepped inside.

Khaled: "Hey."

Almy: "Finally. I've been waiting for you."

Khaled: "Oh yeah? What's up?"

Almy: "Stan brought that new mutant — Connor — here."

Khaled: "And? What's the problem?"

Almy: "He's new! He's been in every room, seen all our locations. We can't just trust strangers we barely know!"

Khaled: "You're right..... Stan acted too fast. We should've waited, learned more about him first..... But from what I've seen, Connor's reliable. He saved us in Spain."

Almy: "That's your opinion.... He seems arrogant. I don't trust him."

Khaled: "Let's drop Connor for now. What's the latest update?"

Almy: "A lot of massacres and mass executions — governments wiping out the infected across the world. Just hours ago, I saw entire villages erased."

Khaled: "What?! Where?"

Almy: "Europe — northern Norway, Scotland. Some countries have fallen into chaos. Gangs, looters everywhere — especially in Asia."

Khaled sighed heavily, hopelessness creeping in.

Khaled: "It's getting worse…"

Almy: "But there's one piece of news — good for us, bad for everyone else."

Khaled: "What do you mean?"

Almy: "The UN Council's split this morning. Southern Europe and North Africa are accusing each other of dropping a nuclear bomb in the Mediterranean."

Khaled: "That means military tension… good! That'll ease the pressure on mutants — less focus on us. That's great news! …What's the bad part?"

Almy: "If war breaks out, civilians in those countries will suffer."

Khaled: "Yeah… true. But this is just political, right? Not actual fighting?"

Almy: "No — it's real. There've already been skirmishes."

Khaled: "What happened exactly?"

Almy: "A French ship was attacked by the Algerian government. A missile exploded in Tunisia, and Italy was blamed. Dozens of coastal nations are pointing fingers."

Khaled: "That's bad… if it turns into full-scale war "

Almy: "For now, it's limited strikes and retaliation — nothing global yet."

Khaled: "And the explosion itself? Any proof?"

Almy: "Nothing solid. Just accusations and propaganda."

Khaled: "Let's hope it doesn't spiral into a world war."

Almy: "Yeah… that's the worst-case scenario."

Khaled: "What about the U.S. and Russia?"

Almy (suddenly alert): "Oh, right! I almost forgot."

Khaled: "What is it?"

Almy: "Something strange — both the U.S. and Russia aren't killing the infected. They're capturing them."

Khaled: "Makes sense. Superpowers like them — they want control. They're trying to build weapons out of mutants."

Almy: "That's exactly what I thought."

Khaled: "There's no other explanation. It's not like they're trying to help them."

"The free werewolf appears in the forest… Khalid discovers who's watching them! 🐺

Will they be a friend or a foe?

What do you think will happen in the next episode? 👀"
