Chapter 58 - 58. Marked (2)

Thud

Veyren walked past the guard. The latter didn't even register his presence.

'Luckily, there was a brief moment where I could actually use my magic when they tried to change my restraints. These people didn't even consider the possibility that I could escape in that short time. Incompetency at its core.'

He shook his head as he quickly escaped the jail cautiously, before moving away from the council headquarters.

It was easy to escape as nobody registered his presence. He had made an illusion clone, which would take his place in the prison.

'That brat... I will one day get back to him.' Veyren's eyes darkened for a bit before returning to his usual gaze.

'No, let's calm down. I am clearly not at his level. The only advantage I have is my ability to stay undetected, but I have a feeling that it would be useless with time. He is just around 12. He will be a monster in a few years. I can't contend with him then.' Veyren had a realistic view of his power progression.

It took him years to reach this level, yet a kid not even half his age easily knocked him out in one shot.

'I will just infiltrate his guild and deal with him accordingly once I am sure that I can fool a Wizard Saint. Not everyone is bound to be as strong as he is. I need just one year.' Veyren nodded to himself before entering a forest.

This was the only safe way for him to escape, as the forest range was pretty big, running across several cities.

Veyren travelled for a few minutes at his max speed. 'Why am I still getting this unease? Is it due to those Wizard Saints?' He frowned as he looked around.

He was standing near the foot of a waterfall, whose bottom wasn't visible from the top.

'I should—' Suddenly, Veyren found his illusion spell being cancelled.

'My stomach!' Due to how fast everything had happened from getting captured, to inquiry and then escaping, Veyren hadn't checked his body intimately, just on the surface.

So, he hadn't expected anybody to plant a spell inside his body.

On instinct, Veyren released his Ethernano as he expelled all the foreign Ethernano from his body.

Only after that was he sure that everything had left his body, then he sighed. 'I almost thought it would lead to an explos—'

BOOM

Veyren suddenly found a large force slam on his right leg, causing him to stumble back and land on his butt.

He turned his head downwards, and saw—

Red.

Blood.

At the position where his right leg was, now stood blood.

A lot of blood rapidly flowed out of the stump.

"N—No." Realisation hit a second later when pain came at full force.

This was a level of pain he had never faced before.

"There you were. For a second, I thought you would escape through the city." A voice came from his side.

He instinctively tried to use his illusion magic.

CRACK

"It's useless. I was expecting you to use it in the short time you got after removing my magic from your body. Actually—" Kazu paused.

Multiple magic bullets appeared around him, and in the next second, a barrage of those bullets rained down on the forest in all directions with Kazu as the centre.

"Okay, so you do seem to be the real one. But, there's still a chance that your real body escaped through this waterfall, no?" Kazu's instincts didn't tell him whether Veyren in front of him was real or not, so he made all preparations.

"W—what?" On the other hand, Veyren was completely out of touch. The pain was too much for him to tolerate.

"If that's acting, it's pretty good." Kazu ignored him and walked to the edge of the waterfall.

He then cocked his fist back.

'50 percent. One Hit Ko X Constructive Interference Times 4.'

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM

A large sound drummed the surrounding air as a massive air pressure generated from Kazu's fist, sandwiching all the water.

Blood seeped from Veyren's ears as his eardrums burst due to the residual air pressure.

"It seems you are real after all." Kazu turned to Veyren.

The latter was a mess. Blood seeped from his ears. His body had turned pale due to losing a lot of blood from his stump.

Kazu frowned. "Oh well. I did say that I would give you a painful death. Too bad that I won't be able to torture you myself, as I need to go back to Gramps. So, it's going to be quick." He said before whistling.

Veyren was too lost in his own pain to notice that Kazu was saying something. Even if he had, he had lost his hearing, so it wouldn't have mattered.

Suddenly, he felt a sting on his back.

It was small at first, but the pain soon became prominent.

He finally turned around ,and his eyes widened in horror.

Two wolves had flesh in their mouth.

His flesh.

'My back!' He could see his own bones.

He tried to move his hand, but found no strength.

So, Veyren helplessly watched as the wolves devoured him in the next few minutes.

The last thing he saw was Kazu's blank face before everything went black.

Just like that, Veyren Kalt died.

---

"Where had you gone to?"

"Just took a bath. Had been stranded too long in the mountains. I don't smell anymore, right?" Kazu walked to Makarov.

"You don't. Where should we eat food?"

"Old man, you were the one who had been here before. You tried some restaurants, right? Just choose the best one." Kazu shrugged.

A vein popped on Makarov's forehead. "Don't call me an old man. Follow me." Makarov led him to a modest inn.

"The food here is pretty good. Way better than those fancy restaurants that charge so much for their ordinary food." Makarov took a seat.

Kazu sat across from him, lifting the menu.

"Is that so? Well, I will try everything then. I am super hungry." Kazu first ordered several dishes.

Makarov ordered the food too. "Do you want to have a competition of who can eat more?" A smirk appeared on the old man's face.

Kazu returned the smirk. "You are on!"

The first round of food arrived for both, and they dug into the food.

In less than a minute, everything disappeared.

Both of them ordered for another round.

"I am just starting."

"This is nothing for me."

Both of them smirked.

They finished another round.

Then another....

Before Another.

Several such rounds happened. It caused the waitress to raise a brow, but they didn't said anything.

"How can you fit so much in your small size?"

"That's my question, old man!"

Kazu victoriously smiled as he continued eating.

Makarov had reached his limits.

"If I were in my prime, I would have beaten you without even trying."

"Excuses," Kazu smirked.

"Hmph." Makarov snorted, but didn't reply. He instead ordered desserts.

'This feels so good...' Kazu turned his head, looking outside the window.

"It's...snowing? Aren't we in the middle of spring?" He looked outside in shock.

"The weather is weird here. But, it's kind of nice to see." Makarov explained.

Kazu paused eating as he looked at the frost falling on the ground.

"Gray would have definitely liked this scene."

Makarov's gaze softened. "Indeed."

Kazu looked at the snow falling for a few more seconds before turning back to his food.

'Didn't think I would be feeling homesick. Guess, this mission has really taken a toll on me.' He sped up his pace of eating.

He couldn't wait to get back to the guild and see what had happened in the last 3 months.

---

"Mira!"

Gray involuntarily shivered as he felt Erza's voice icier than any ice spell he could make.

"Yes?" A smirk appeared on Mira's face as he got up from the chair.

"Did you eat the cake I had put in the fridge? The one I had told you 3 times repeatedly not to eat?" Erza's arm instinctively went to the sword on her waist.

"Hmmm... I don't remember eating it. Maybe I accidentally ate it. Sorry~" Despite saying that, Mira didn't look even one bit apologetic.

"Are they at it again? This is the third time this week."

"I hope they don't fight here in the guild. Last time, the tavern was a mess. When the master came, he made us fix it."

Few people in the tavern groaned as they looked at the familiar exchange.

Mira had been challenging Erza this way. Other than Erza, nobody in the guild is stronger than her.

Even some adult members had tried their hand, aiming to win easy bets, but they lost miserably.

"Why do you do this always?" Her grip tightened. Red-coloured Ethernano started emitting from Erza's body.

"I wonder too...Something about you clearly rubs me the wrong way." To respond to Erza, Mira emitted her purple ethernano.

"I—Hmm?" Erza suddenly paused as her brows furrowed in confusion.

Mira, wide-eyed, was looking at Erza.

'Why is she suddenly so shocked? Is this a trick or—'

"I am back! Did anyone miss me?"
