Chapter 3 - Coming Home One Day

As Eclair was being walked to his court trial, he began to think deeply about his situation.

"I'm being sent to court because the police have deemed me a prime suspect in a murder. But all I was doing was trying to help him, how could they think it was me?" he sneered.

The memory of that day began to resurface in his mind, how could he forget such an incident?

...

It was cold that day, the weather forecast predicted that it would rain in the evening, and that it would be sunny all week long. There was a boy sitting inside of a bus, with long black hair with gold highlights and bronze skin, he was listening to music as he peered outside the window into the cloudy sky, thinking. He was coming home from a long day at work, 11 hours in fact, the boy had to work himself to the bone in order to help and provide for his mother.

They have been struggling for years ever since Eclair's father left them when he was just 4. No one knows where he went, and the loss deeply affected his mother. She used to be a lively woman, filled with vitality and an aspiring attitude. But, that was in the past when he was still here, now it's just the two of them.

Eclair had to drop of out school in the 10th grade just to help his mother. He sacrificed everything, his friends, his education, his own future, just to help his mother. Even though she insisted heavily that he stay in school, she soon accepted his decision.

As his stop came into view, he got up from his seat and left the bus. The cool breeze brushed against his copper skin as he walked towards his 2-floor apartment. This neighborhood has been his home for the last 16 years. He's grown to know his neighbors, the local kids, even the police....occasionally.

After contemplating on what book he should read when he got home, Eclair began to speed up his pace as rain began to spit. Nearing his home, he began to hear an unfamiliar noise near his apartment, unlike the loud rugby that's always playing in Mr. Nathan's room, or the incessant chatter between Ms. Gretchen and Mr. Oliver.

He turned his head to the back of the complex, where little to no activity would be happen, in exception to the barbecues that Mr. Nathan usually hosts when his team wins. Curiosity was truly mankind's worst desire, as the boy approached the noise.

The noise began to intensify as he could make out a sound of the struggle happening. He turned the corner of the complex wall when all of a sudden a man came sprinting parallel to him. Eclair stumbled down and caught a glimpse of the man; he was short, with greasy, long unkempt hair that was beginning to grey.

"Watch wh-where your going kid." He mumbled, as he began to run away.

"The hell?"

Eclair stood up and brushed off his clothes, still in shock of what just happened.

"Fucking junkie."

As he finally turned the corner, he saw what the junkie was running away from.

"Holy shit!" He gasped

On the floor was a person who was bleeding profusely out of his chest and neck. Gasping and pushing down on his wounds he sat there alone. In hand was a bloodied needle with a questionable substance inside.

"Oh my god! Sir are you okay?!" He yelled as he ran towards him.

The man attempted to speak but blood began to bubble out of his windpipe and mouth.

Eclair did not know what to do, he was flustered and began to put pressure on the wounds as well.

"Help! Somebody! Help!"

After pleading for what seemed to be 10 minutes, he could hear police sirens in the distance.

A sense of relief washed over Eclair, but the man's movements were beginning to slow down as time went on.

Not long after, the police arrived...

"Wait! Wait! What are you doing? Why are you arresting me?" he pleaded.

"You scum!" one of the officers put his elbow further into his neck.

Tears of pain began to well up in Eclair's eyes

"Wait!"

"Your good for nothing, going around causing trouble, and now you've finally decided to stab someone." one of the officers holding him down said.

"Please! It wasn't me!" he cried out.

Eclair began to wail in pain as the two officers beat him down and handcuffed him.

...

Two officers lead Eclair to the court room, as he reminisced about that fated day.
