Chapter 43 - The Green Goblin's Philosophy: Villains as Philosophers

Superman's genes are enough to drive countless scientists crazy. He'll probably be in the most danger the day that identity is exposed.

And that's not even considering the Superman clones in DC. There are plenty of similar scientists here in Marvel.

Like Stryker, like Sarah Kinney, like Mr. Sinister, who cloned Jean Grey, and so on.

Who can say these mad scientists can't clone Superman?

The Marvel world never really cared about following logic…

He held Jean Grey's hand as they strolled through the park, browsed the mall, and bought gifts for the Mutant children.

Chen Xi knew that there were now millions of Mutants, and Charles and his team could only help a tiny fraction of them.

There were even more children struggling to survive.

After seeing off the reluctant Jean Grey and the Mutant children who had received gifts, Chen Xi returned home.

He had promised Jean Grey to help the Mutants, and even if it wasn't for his woman's sake, he had to do it for the sake of justice points.

Although Gwen's father approved of her hanging out with Chen Xi, since she could become a big star, she still had to go home.

Chen Xi and Wanda, after finishing dinner, snuggled on the sofa watching the news broadcast live on TV, but they weren't paying attention to the content; chatting was the most important thing.

"By the way, the internet is saying that you've been slacking off for half a year now. The big star has money and is just chilling," Wanda said.

"Slacking off? I haven't been slacking off. I've been working hard in secret every day."

Chen Xi pouted unhappily. This group of idle, well-fed idiots didn't understand a thing!

"Tch! I think you're slacking off too, but you don't need to push yourself so hard. How much money is enough? We already have more than we can spend, it won't change our lives."

Wanda first gave him a look, then seriously stated her thoughts. She was more traditional; enough money was enough.

"Sometimes it's not about how much money you have, but that some things must be done."

Chen Xi shook his head. He had already made a decision. If he was going to do something, he would do it thoroughly, without regrets!

"Do whatever you think is best."

Wanda nodded obediently, she just needed to be a good helpmate.

The next day, the Green Goblin broke into the newspaper office where Parker worked, threatening the boss to reveal Spider-Man's identity. But this time, the newspaper boss actually stood his ground. Just as the Green Goblin was about to deal with him, Parker, as expected, showed up.

Instead of making a cool entrance, Parker was hanging upside down from a windowsill when the Green Goblin ambushed him with a super-powered anesthetic spray…

In front of a crowd, the Green Goblin carried Spider-Man, flying right over their heads. The onlookers were stunned, unsure of what was happening.

When night fell, Parker finally woke up from the anesthetic.

The Green Goblin hadn't killed him. Instead, he was trying to recruit Spider-Man, a powerful fighter, to his side.

"Don't worry, you're not dead. You're alive. You're just temporarily paralyzed."

"Spider-Man, you're incredible. You and I are so alike."

The Green Goblin's voice was low and persuasive, but Parker fought to stay alert. "We're not the same. You're a murderer."

"No, it's just that everyone has their own ambitions."

Green Goblin shook his head, then said in a low voice, "This is just my choice, while you choose to be a superhero."

"The public only has a three-minute interest in you. What they want to see most is the hero's failure, downfall, and death."

"No matter how much you've done for them, they'll only hate you, so why bother?"

That's why villains often resonate more, they are all once hardworking geniuses, madmen, and philosophers…

They've experienced all the suffering and torment to reach where they are now, which is why they are so profound.

"You're right."

Peter Parker also fell silent. Some people admired him, but others naturally envied and hated him…

Green Goblin chuckled, patting Peter Parker on the shoulder as if catching up with an old friend, and leaned against the chain-link fence. "New York has eight million citizens, and they serve only one purpose."

"What's that?"

"To carry a handful of exceptional talents on their shoulders!"

"Like you and me!"

"But I could just as easily crush you. However, I'll give you a chance. Join me!"

"Imagine the great things we could accomplish together, the future we could create!"

"Is it really your ideal to let innocent people die until we both fall?"

Peter Parker fell silent.

Because what the Green Goblin said wasn't entirely wrong...

The Green Goblin squatted down, patted his shoulder, and then turned away on his glider, leaving. He wanted Spider-Man to see the darkness in the hearts of men.
