Chapter 20 - CHAPTER - 19 INVASION PART 1

Justin and his friends watched in horror as Manhattan—their home—was overrun by an extraterrestrial threat. The streets flooded with alien invaders, and the skies buzzed with scout ships. Civilians panicked, fleeing in every direction. Some got away. Others… weren't so lucky.

"Guys, we should really get out of here," said Max, as the scout ships roared above the school, sending students scrambling for cover.

The group quickly agreed and began leaving the stadium—just as the ships opened fire. Beams of energy tore across the field, sending students screaming in terror. One blast struck the school's mascot statue—a large tiger—toppling it.

Eddie, who had been running nearby, looked up just in time to see the statue falling toward him. He dove out of the way, barely avoiding a direct hit, but the heavy structure crashed down on his legs, pinning him to the ground.

"HELP! Someone, please!" Eddie cried, but the chaos drowned out his voice. Everyone else was too busy running for their lives.

"Oh God, Eddie…" Duncan froze for a second before rushing to his side, trying to lift the statue. He strained with everything he had, but it wouldn't budge.

"I need help over here! Please! Anyone!" Duncan shouted, his voice echoing through the nearly-empty stadium.

Then, someone stepped beside him, placing a hand on the statue.

Duncan turned—and was stunned.

"Justin?"

"Lift now, be surprised later," Justin said.

They both pushed. Justin pretended to struggle, concealing the supernatural strength he was using. A blast from above hit Justin's right arm, and he screamed in pain.

"You okay?" Duncan asked.

"Yeah… just keep lifting," Justin gritted out.

With a final heave, they freed Eddie.

"You alright, man?" Duncan asked, eyes full of concern.

"I think my legs are broken," Eddie muttered, trying not to scream.

As Duncan helped him up, another blast struck the base of a goalpost, sending it toppling toward them. Justin reacted instantly—yanking Eddie out of the way and kicking Duncan clear just before it crashed down.

"Justin, why'd you run off like that? What happened?" Max asked, racing over.

"I'll explain later. Let's just get him inside!" Justin said, clutching his injured arm. Max and Duncan carried Eddie to safety.

MEANWHILE

Sarah was enjoying a rare day off—snacking and watching TV—when her phone rang.

"Jayce, this better not be work. You're the one who told me to take a day," she said, answering.

"Sarah… it's happening," Director Stone said. His voice was tense.

"What? What's happening?" she asked.

A rumble echoed from outside. Sarah went to the window and froze. Her phone slowly dropped from her ear to her side.

Alien ships filled the sky.

"Sarah? Sarah, are you still there?" Stone's voice called out.

"…Yeah. I'm here," she said quietly, raising the phone again. "The kids… they're still at school."

"I'm already on my way to pick them up. I'm taking them to the A.D.A. They'll be safer there," said Director Stone.

"Then that's where I'm going. I'll see you there," Sarah said, hanging up.

As he drove, Director Stone called his daughter.

"Dad?" Amethyst answered, relief in her voice.

"You alright?"

"Yeah, I'm fine."

"And the others?"

"They're all with me."

"Good. Meet me outside. I'm taking you all to the base. It's the safest place I can think of."

Soon, the kids were running toward his vehicle, dodging blasts from above as they piled in.

"Strap in. Now," Stone ordered.

"We appreciate you coming to get us," said Max. "But you're gonna explain all this, right?"

"Alien invasion," Stone replied bluntly, ignoring all traffic laws as he sped through the chaos.

"Oh. I hadn't noticed," Max said dryly.

They skidded around a corner—and slammed on the brakes. A group of alien soldiers stood in the street, weapons drawn. They wore light armor, revealing glimpses of strange, off-colored skin beneath.

Justin reached for the door handle.

"No. You stay put," Stone ordered firmly, having seen Justin through the rearview mirror.

"Are you serious? What are we supposed to do, just sit here?" Justin protested.

"Yeah, we're kind of sitting ducks here," Chloe added. "These guys aren't exactly normal."

"Good thing this isn't a normal car," Stone said, pressing a button near the gear stick.

With a metallic hum and rapid shifting panels, the car transformed—its interior expanded, its body reinforced with armor plating, and twin cannons deployed above the front tires.

"Okay, I definitely want one of these for my birthday," said Amethyst, stunned.

"Absolutely not," Stone shot back.

The aliens opened fire. The car's defenses activated, guns returning fire as it sped forward, running over a few of the invaders. Though it took some damage, the armored vehicle got them to the A.D.A. safely.

"That was close," Kade exhaled.

Inside the base, agents rushed around, prepping tanks, jets, and weaponry for war.

"I didn't know you guys had all this," Justin said in awe.

"This is what we were built for," Stone replied. "The A.D.A. was made for this."

"Justin!" Sarah ran toward her son, pulling him into a hug, her sister Sofia close behind.

"I'm alright, Mom," Justin assured her.

"Hi mom." said Chloe as Sofia embraced her, relieves she was safe.

"Hi Aunt Sofia," Justin added as she embraced him.

"Hi, Aunty," said Chloe, hugging Sarah.

"I'm just glad all of you are safe," Sarah said.

"You're fighting too?" Justin asked, noticing the black suit and sword at her side.

"Yes. I am," she replied, securing the blade.

"Max, I contacted your grandparents. Kade, I reached your aunt and uncle—they're being brought here now," she said.

"Thank you," said Max, touched.

"Yeah. Thanks, Mrs. Jackson," Kade added.

"No need to thank me."

"Agents Rowe, Reid—watch the kids. Don't let them out of your sight," she ordered.

"I'm going with you," Justin said.

"Absolutely not. You're staying here, with the others," Sarah replied firmly.

"But I can help—"

"I said NO."

"Look around! I might be your best weapon right now!"

"I'm not debating this with you," she said, voice like steel.

"I hate to say it," Director Stone chimed in, "but he has a point."

"Out of the question."

"Why?" Justin demanded. "All I've been doing since I got these powers is helping people. Why sideline me now?"

"Because I never wanted you involved in this! And every time you do, you almost get killed. This? This is even worse."

"He won't be alone. And he might be our only shot at balancing the fight," said Stone.

Sarah wrestled with the decision. Her child... or the world.

Finally, she gave in. "Okay. But you have to be extra careful."

"I will," said Justin, hearing the fear in her voice.

"I mean it, Justin. I need to know you'll come back to me."

"I promise," he said softly.

"Go get your suit."

Moments later, the base was alive with motion—jets launching, tanks rolling out, and armored vehicles rolling off. Nearly every A.D.A. agent deployed for war, leaving two behind to guard Max, Chloe, Amethyst, and Kade.

MEANWHILE ON THE STREETS OF MANHATTAN

Civilians were running for their lives. Every available police officer had been deployed, but they were overwhelmed—completely outmatched. The chaos unfolding before them was unlike anything they'd ever seen.

Captain Sting and four officers were pinned down, taking cover behind their squad cars as alien invaders rained down fire.

"Captain, what the hell is happening?" shouted one officer.

"I wish I knew," Captain Sting replied, reloading his gun.

"This is even worse than 7/15…" another officer muttered.

That comment triggered a wave of flashbacks in the Captain, nearly sending him into a panic.

"Captain? You okay?" another officer asked.

"I'm fine," Sting responded quickly.

Suddenly, one of the officers was gunned down. The alien weapon blew a clean hole through his torso. The rest froze, horrified, realizing just how outclassed they were.

As they stared at their fallen comrade, an alien leapt onto their squad car and spoke in a foreign tongue, raising its weapon to fire.

Before it could shoot, a sword pierced the back of its head, emerging cleanly through the forehead. Purple blood ran down its face as it dropped lifelessly. The killer wore a black full-body stealth suit—Sarah, though the officers didn't recognize her.

"You need to get out of here," she ordered, her voice distorted through a voice modulator.

Director Stone and several A.D.A. agents arrived to support the police.

"Who are they?" one officer asked.

"They don't look military," another noted.

"Doesn't matter—they're helping. Let's go while we still can," Captain Sting ordered, realizing their guns were useless compared to these new allies' weapons.

As the officers turned to escape, another group of invaders cut them off. Sarah and the other agents were still battling behind them, unable to help.

With nowhere to run, Captain Sting and his team braced for death… but instead of laser fire, they heard a scuffle.

Floating above them was a masked figure cloaked in black and radiating sky-blue energy—Justin. Though Sting didn't know it, he was looking at the same person he'd once vowed to arrest.

Justin, Sarah, Director Stone, and the agents launched into coordinated action, doing everything they could to defend Manhattan.

MEANWHILE AT THE A.D.A.

Max, Amethyst, Chloe, and Kade sat around, trying to kill time.

"Why don't we take a tour of this top-secret facility?" Kade suggested with a mischievous grin.

"I'm afraid I can't allow that," said Agent Rowe, one of their assigned guards.

"You take orders from Mrs. Jackson, right?" Kade asked slyly.

"Yes. She's one of the A.D.A.'s founding members."

"And what about Mrs. Hunter?"

"Yes… also a superior."

"Okay. And surely you listen to Director Stone?"

"Get to the point," Rowe snapped.

"I'm just saying—Director Stone is Amethyst's dad, Mrs. Hunter is Chloe's mom, and Mrs. Jackson is her aunt. So… can't we just look around?"

"The answer is still no. You're staying right here," Rowe replied firmly.

"I really thought that would work," Kade chuckled, flopping back beside his friends. "They must be hiding some good stuff."

"Give it a rest, Kade," Max said. "We'll find another way to pass the time."

"Fine, fine."

MEANWHILE IN THE CONTAINMENT WING

Deep in the A.D.A., enhanced individuals once defeated by Justin were locked away—depowered, contained. Or so they thought.

In one of the cells, Otto, the shadow man's right-hand, smirked to himself. "Time for phase two."

He reached into his mouth and pulled out a fake tooth, clicking the button inside. It sent a signal to his cybernetic arm, stored in inventory.

A moment later, the arm emitted a massive EMP. The power across the facility—and even the backups—went dark.

Cells unlocked.

Freedom.

"Ahhh, good to be out of that cage," said Aiden a.k.a. Speed Demon, vanishing in a blur as he sped out, followed by the others.

"Don't you guys have a backup generator?" asked Amethyst as the power went out.

"Yes, we do—but it should've kicked in by now," said Agent Rowe.

"What's that?" asked Max as he noticed something lying on the ground and went to pick it up.

Max had stumbled upon one of the mini drones with a small camera attached to it—something the shadow man had managed to sneak into the A.D.A., now knocked out by the EMP.

"What is it?" asked Chloe as they all gathered around to see what Max held in his palm.

"It looks like some kind of drone," said Kade.

"Is that... is that a camera attached to it?" asked Amethyst, examining it closely.

"We... we've been breached," said Agent Reid as he realized the drone wasn't one of theirs.

"Well, I guess this place isn't empty after all," said Aiden, appearing seemingly out of nowhere.

"Freeze!" yelled Agent Rowe as he and Agent Reid drew their guns and aimed them at Aiden.

To their surprise, Brody, Roman, Ray (Hurricane), Aaron (Sonic), Landon (Toxic), Enzo (Prism), and Otto also stepped into view.

Fighting even one of them would've been nearly impossible. All of them, except Otto, possessed superhuman abilities—and the agents knew it.

"You kids need to get out of here. We'll hold them off," said Agent Reid as he and Agent Rowe opened fire. But their efforts were futile. Brody and Enzo stepped in front, acting as shields—both were bulletproof.

"Come on, let's get out of here," said Max.

"No need to tell me twice," replied Kade as they all ran after him.

"Aiden, I need you to use your speed to help me find something in here," said Otto.

"No thanks. I spent months stuck here in a cell—I'm getting out of here," replied Aiden (Speed Demon).

"That wasn't a request," said Otto, his tone turning cold.

"Why should I listen to you?" Aiden challenged.

"He's right. Aside from that robot arm you've got, you don't really have any powers," said Ray (Hurricane), cutting in.

As the tension built, Otto's cybernetic arm shifted slightly, revealing buttons—like a remote control embedded into it. He pressed one, and suddenly, Aiden, Ray, Brody, and the others dropped to their knees, writhing in pain.

While the villains were distracted, Agents Rowe and Reid took the opportunity to retreat—their weapons had proven useless.

"What the hell? What is this?" groaned Roman, overwhelmed by the agony.

"In case you forgot," Otto said coldly, "I had a major hand in giving you your powers—making you what you are. Did you really think I wouldn't have contingencies?"

"And let's not forget—you're all dying. Some of you can feel it. Fortunately, my boss and I know how to fix you. So for now, do as you're told, and maybe you'll live." He pressed the button again, and the pain stopped.

"Now, as I was saying—I need your help to find something. With your speed, it shouldn't take long," Otto said, looking directly at Aiden.

"Fine. Whatever," Aiden replied reluctantly.

"Looks like they got away," Otto muttered, noticing the kids and the agents had escaped.

"Can I go kill them?" asked Enzo eagerly.

"You're as crazy and bloodthirsty as ever. Sure, knock yourself out—just don't let them escape," said Otto.

Enzo chased after the kids and the agents, while Otto, Aiden, and the others began searching the A.D.A. facility for whatever Otto was after.

Aiden zipped through the halls, searching quickly due to Otto's not-so-polite request. Eventually, he came to a halt in front of him.

"Are you sure it's here? Because I don't think it is," said Aiden.

"Positive. We need to hurry. We're not leaving without it," Otto replied firmly.

Aiden did another sweep of the facility. This time, he came across a large vault door—exactly the kind of place someone would hide something important.

"I think I found something," Aiden reported.

"Show me," said Otto.

Aiden led them to the vault, and Otto's eyes lit up.

"This is it. It has to be here," said Otto.

"Looks like there's a keypad. How do you propose we get in?" asked Landon.

"That's why all of you are here," Otto answered with a smirk.

Meanwhile, Enzo was hot on the group's heels as Agent Rowe and Reid deliberately staggered behind to distract him, giving the kids more time to escape. They kept firing at him, but their bullets were useless against his armor.

"Doesn't even tickle. Pathetic," Enzo scoffed, growing underwhelmed.

Without warning, he launched sharp shards from his body, striking both agents and sending them crashing to the ground, bleeding. As he approached, Enzo noticed they were still alive.

"You two aren't even worth killing," he said coldly, stepping over them and continuing the chase.

The kids kept running, panicked and disoriented, until they reached a dead end.

"We're trapped," said Amethyst.

"Quick, let's turn back!" Chloe urged.

But it was too late. Enzo had already cornered them and was preparing to strike.

"I was really hoping you'd put up more of a fight. I guess I was foolish to expect anything from you," Enzo sneered, raising his arms to finish them off.

Suddenly, a loud bang rang out—and Enzo dropped to the ground with a visible crack in his armor.

To their surprise, it was Jones, still recovering from the med bay, wielding a massive gun with glowing lights along the sides.

"Well, come on! Before he gets back up!" Jones shouted.

They sprinted past the downed Enzo, but he rose again quickly—this time angrier than ever—and resumed his pursuit.

"Nice gun. Got any more?" Kade asked.

"Nope. This is the only one. I built it after Justin's fight with him. It's just a prototype with limited shots," Jones explained.

"So I guess we'll have to make every shot count," said Max.

"Where are we going?" Amethyst asked.

"The generator room. We need to restore power so we can call for backup. Without it, we're locked inside this facility," Jones said.

They turned a corner and arrived at the generator room. Enzo wasn't far behind. Jones stayed back to buy time, just like Rowe and Reid had earlier.

As soon as Enzo rounded the corner, Jones was ready. He charged the gun—its side lights glowing—then fired again.

Enzo staggered from the impact, another crack splintering across his reflective armor.

"You're dead! I'll tear you limb from limb!" Enzo roared in pain and fury.

Reinforcing his armor, he charged at Jones, determined to shred him apart.

"Bring it, bitch," Jones spat, firing three more shots at the same spot on Enzo's armor. The energy blasts grew more intense with each shot, until they finally punched a hole through it. Enzo collapsed.

Jones rushed into the generator room just as the others opened the reinforced doors. He sealed them shut behind him and set the gun down to get the power back online.

"Okay, once you fix the generator, how do we contact backup? There's nothing in here we can use," Chloe pointed out.

"She's right," Kade added. "Even if the power comes back, that armored freak won't stay down forever."

"I know," said Jones. "Once the power's back, we'll have to make a run for the control room. It's the only way to contact Justin and the Director."

"How many shots does your gun have left?" Max asked, gauging their odds.

"I'm not sure, but hopefully enough to keep Enzo at bay," Jones replied.

Just then, the lights flickered back on.

"Finished. Alright—let's get out of here," Jones said.

"Yeah, just in time too," Amethyst added as loud banging echoed from behind the sealed door.

Enzo was back on his feet—and smashing through the door, leaving huge dents with every hit.

"Quick, everyone hide. We'll have to catch him off guard," Jones ordered.

"Good idea," Chloe whispered, and they all found places to hide.

Enzo finally broke through. The doors crashed to the ground with a thunderous echo. He stepped inside, expecting to find his next victims—but saw no one.

"NOW!" Jones shouted, revealing himself and opening fire.

Enzo was forced to back away from the doorway under the barrage, allowing the kids to slip past him. He raised his arms to shield himself from the blasts.

But while defending himself, Enzo launched a shard that impaled Jones in the shoulder, causing him to drop the gun.

Jones groaned in pain as he yanked it out. Enzo, sensing victory, moved in—but Jones refused to give up.

With his uninjured hand, Jones lifted the gun and fired upward at the ceiling. The blast brought the entire structure crashing down on Enzo.

Using the precious seconds he'd bought, Jones joined the kids and headed for the control room.

Enzo eventually burst out from the rubble and resumed his relentless pursuit. Meanwhile, the group made it to the control room. Jones placed the gun next to the computer and inserted an earpiece.

Elsewhere, Justin and the others were still battling the invaders—but they were being overwhelmed. Suddenly, a voice came through Justin's earpiece.

"Justin, Justin, can you hear me?" it said.

"Jones? Is that you?" Justin replied, surprised.

"Yeah, it's me. The kids and I are trapped inside the A.D.A. The prisoners have escaped and we need—" Jones' message cut off as Enzo struck the communication panel with another shard.

"I usually enjoy a chase before a kill, but even I think this has dragged on too long," Enzo taunted with a smirk.

Jones scrambled to grab the gun and fired a few more shots, trying to stall. Enzo re-armored himself and blocked with his hands. But then, the gun began to malfunction.

"Oh no, not now," Jones muttered as the gun misfired. The lights dimmed—it was failing.

"Looks like you're out of juice. But I'm not," Enzo said, reshaping his hands into deadly blades.

Just as Enzo raised his arm to strike—

CRASH!

Justin exploded through the wall and punched Enzo square in the face, knocking him across the room.

"You guys alright?" he asked, turning to his friends.

"Good, you're here. I was hoping you'd show," Enzo said, rising. "Now I finally get a real fight."

Justin didn't show it, but fear gnawed at him—not for himself, but for his friends. He knew how hard it had been to defeat Enzo before. But with their lives on the line, he found his courage.

He clenched his fists—and both he and Enzo charged at each other.

---

Meanwhile, in another wing of the A.D.A…

Otto and the other escapees were still trying to break into the vault. Aaron (a.k.a. Sonic) fired sonic blasts at the reinforced door, weakening its structure.

"That should be enough. Brody, your turn," Otto commanded.

Brody activated his powers, grew in size and strength, and pounded the vault door until it broke free.

Inside the vault were countless dangerous weapons—but one item stood out.

"What is that?" asked Roman, now going by the name Pulse, a name Jones had given him during their last encounter.

"What we came for," Otto answered with a sinister smile.

At the center of the room, hovering above a pedestal, was the cube—glowing, humming, illuminating the room in an eerie light.

"Beautiful," Otto whispered.

"Admire it later. Let's grab it and go," Brody said, reaching out.

"DON'T TOUCH IT!" Otto snapped.

"Why?" Brody asked, confused.

"You can't touch it with bare hands," Otto said, recalling his boss's warning.

"But maybe…" Otto trailed off, an idea forming.

He extended his cybernetic arm and touched the cube. Nothing happened.

Realizing it was safe enough, Otto grabbed the cube—and the group quickly exited the vault.

Meanwhile, Justin and Enzo's fight continued, and unfortunately, it didn't look like Justin was going to win.

"Shouldn't we do something? He could die," said Amethyst, starting to worry.

 "Yeah, we should," said Max.

"Stay out of this. We'll only get in his way," said Jones, being the voice of reason.

"What is this? Are you sure you're the same person I fought last time?" Enzo asked, ignoring Jones and the others.

"I know what it is. Last time, you were fighting to protect that girl. You just need that same motivation," Enzo said as he raised his hand, causing sharp shards to protrude from it, preparing to attack Justin's friends.

"NO!!" Justin shouted, his determination to protect his friends unlocking more power within him. He suddenly became stronger and faster.

Justin punched Enzo in the face, thwarting the attack and knocking him to the ground.

"Come on, let's find somewhere to hide and get out of his way," Jones urged in the middle of the chaos.

"Nice, that's more like it... but you're not quite there yet—"

Before Enzo could finish his sentence, Justin was already charging at him, not wasting a second.

In a fit of rage, Justin unleashed a relentless assault. After the brutal barrage, Enzo wiped the blood from his face, trying to push himself off the ground. Justin charged his fist with energy and went in for the final blow.

But just as Justin's punch was about to connect, Aiden (Speed Demon) dashed in and placed Roman (Pulse) between them. Roman absorbed the kinetic energy from the punch and redirected it back at Justin, creating distance between them.

"What do you say? Round two?" Aiden asked rhetorically.

Before Justin could react, Aaron hit him with a sonic blast, disorienting him. As Justin lay stunned on the ground, Landon (Toxic) approached.

"Miss me?" Landon said before exhaling toxic gas into Justin's face.

Coughing violently, Justin barely had time to recover before being struck by a powerful gust of wind.

"Don't kill him. I have a score to settle," said Ray (Hurricane).

"Oh yeah? Well, get in line," Brody added as he lifted Justin by the throat and slammed him into the ground with immense force, fracturing several bones.

Aaron followed up with an even more intense sonic blast, causing internal injuries—his eardrums burst and began bleeding—before Landon gassed him again.

Then all of them piled on, attacking him simultaneously in a brutal seven-on-one beatdown. Justin fell to his knees, blood dripping from his face, trying not to pass out. But the carnage was overwhelming.

As he struggled to rise and continue fighting, Enzo morphed his hand into a blade and stabbed Justin. Luckily, Justin dodged just enough to avoid fatal damage.

Amethyst looked away, unable to bear watching, while Jones and the others were consumed by helplessness. Due to his severe injuries and blood loss, Justin lost consciousness.

"Don't kill him. The boss still has use for him," Otto intervened.

"So what do we do with him?" Brody asked.

"We're taking him with us. I've secured one of their jets—let's go," Otto replied.

"Okay, we really need to do something—they're going to kill him," said Chloe.

"I'm trying," said Jones as he tinkered with his gun, hoping to repair it.

"Nice, I think there's one shot left," said Jones.

"You think one shot is enough for all of them?" Kade asked skeptically.

"Maybe. This'll be its most powerful shot," Jones said, aiming carefully.

Unfortunately, as Jones pulled the trigger, Otto turned around—and the shot hit the cube instead. The cube fell to the ground and reacted violently to the impact, releasing a massive wave of energy.

The blast caused immense damage throughout the base, creating structural instability. The A.D.A. facility began to collapse.

Otto and his group managed to board the jet he had commandeered and escaped. But Jones and the others couldn't reach a jet in time and were seemingly crushed beneath the falling debris.

Things had taken a devastating turn. Not only was the A.D.A. base destroyed—but worse—Otto and the others had escaped with the cube.
