Lucian didn't look at me often, but when he did, those brief glances carried something that made my pulse flutter like he could still feel the ghost of what he'd just said.

It kept replaying in my head like a melody I couldn't stop humming.

No man had ever said them to me like that not with that kind of conviction, not with that kind of quiet intensity that made it sound less like a confession and more like a promise.
I looked out the window as the city lights slipped past. My reflection stared back at me, wide-eyed and still, like she didn't recognize the woman she'd become.
