Chapter 10 - The Baleful Shadow

After regaining his composure, Christopher rose from his seat and readied his sword. "Giorno, I'll handle this, take everyone into the kitchen and stay there until I come get you." "Okay, good luck to you my friend; remember that there's more of that olive oil you liked on the table." Giorno gathered the waiters and quickly fled to the kitchen.

"It doesn't matter I'll feed on them as well. It seems the prince and his blushing brides aren't here though; That's bad news for little Leonorio." The vampire snarled as she said these things.

"I didn't realize vampires were so talkative, it seems you really have the utmost confidence in being able to kill me." Christopher drizzled olive oil onto his blade as he said this. "You thought a pathetic leech would be enough to kill my prince?" Christopher let out a mighty laugh. "It seems Orlok really fits in with the royals of Asterion, they're all irredeemable fools."

"How dare you insult the noble count Orlok!!!" The vampire accelerated rapidly towards Christopher, her nails growing to an absurd length as she tried to claw the young noble. Christopher evaded slash after slash, looking for an opening. She's pretty fast. Christopher thought this in the exchange, he knew he was faster though.

With a swing of his blade, Christopher delivered a powerful slash across the vampires left eye. "Graaaaagh." The vampire groaned in pain, and then came a belated burning sensation that overwhelmed the vampire. "You bastard, did you smear garlic on that sword!!!" The vampire writhed on the floor, cursing Christopher. "It seems that garlic-olive oil works wonders on you vampires." Christopher backed away as he taunted the languishing vampire.

The vampire steeled herself, unveiling a form that no longer even resembled a human. "What a disgusting beast." Christopher hated monsters such as vampires since he was a follower of the goddess of light, but the sight had utterly disgusted him.

The vampire snarled and swung her swordlike claws, when these claws were unable to reach Christopher, the monster began attempting to sink its fangs into the young man, this however didn't accomplish anything. After the beast had taken a chomp, Christopher swung his sword directly into its nostrils. With half its nose missing, the vampire began to wail and cough from the dose of garlic it had received.

"It appears that you can't think rationally anymore, you're naught but a monster now." Christopher began to run towards the vampire, he evaded various claw strikes and disappeared towards the vampire's blind side. With a fierce slash, Christopher swung his sword through half of the vampires torso. The vampire could only swing wildly as Christopher gathered light fueled mana into his sword and slowly but effectively sliced the rest of the way through.

The vampire had been bisected, but it somehow still kept moving its upper half. "Why would anyone choose to become something this vile?" Christopher kicked the writhing mess of a monster onto what was left of its back, and with a final thrust impaled the light infused blade into its heart. Christopher grimaced as the monster turned to black mush after its death.

Red had decided that it would be best for him to take on count Orlok by himself. Rose was quite talented at support magic, but she wasn't ready for actual battle yet. Azure was needed at the Rosales manor, he would be able to keep everyone safe. Kitty would have been useful for dispatching count Orlok, but he figured it would be better for her to stay with Rose for extra assurance. 'She'll also keep Azure from losing his head.' Red thought this with a sigh.

As he neared the manor, Red could feel a powerful ominous energy that made his skin crawl, he could sense that this place was a source of the corruption that had gripped the entire city. But it's still far to weak to be the main source. He thought this and then said: "This city is doomed." Rain poured down as he walked, the darkness hugged its surroundings with menacing certainty.

"Careful prince, us nobles of the city might take what you said as a threat." A cloaked shadow approached from the manor's direction. He couldn't see the shadow well enough to recognize it, but he had met this person before, their mana hadn't been concealed well enough.

With a grin and a sarcastic tone Red said: "Lord Gimor Fauzas, it's quite the pleasure to see you again. To what do I owe this unexpected meeting?" The shadow had stopped approaching. "I heard you were quite the genius, but to think you would recognize me in this form. I'll cut straight to the point then. Why aren't you at the restaurant right now?" The shadow's voice boomed as he approached his question.

"I didn't really feel like it, so I sent my right hand man to take a break there, but don't worry, even if a creature of the night were to appear there, he would have no trouble dispatching it." Red drew his sword as he finished speaking, he didn't know what type of being this shadow was, but he was sure that he would have to slay it to move further.

"I see..... that complicates things. I hate having to get my hands dirty." The shadow loomed ever bigger and darker, threatening to consume anything it came into contact with.

Red boosted his magic to its maximum, making sure to engulf himself and his blade in pure mana. I can't use light magic yet, its difficult to acquire if you don't have a connection to the goddess. Red thought this while letting out a chuckle. "I might still need to learn a few things, but you monster are by far my lesser." Red swung his blade with great force, the shadow gave where his slash fell, the shadow did not howl or even grimace in pain however. Trying this a few more times, Red realized it was useless.

Red then began to form a vortex of pure mana around the palm of his hand, as the vortex grew greater and greater, the shadow began to be dragged into it. Struggling, the shadow was eventually unable to resist the vortex's pull. "Impossible!!!! How can a mere child have this much power?!?!" The shadow could only complain as it became engulfed by the mana vortex. The shadow eventually settled into a sphere in the palm of Red's hand, without releasing the vortex, Red then concentrated, he had to be careful with this spell.

"Dragon Fire Vortex!!!" Red chanted a spell, the vortex was now alight with powerful flame. The light produced by the flame was enough to light up the entire property. The shadow finally yelped in pain, unable to escape until it had been completely consumed by the spell. Red released the spell, and as he regained his breath, he realized that the spell had burned his palm as well. "Play with fire and you'll get burned. I guess the saying is true." Red talked to himself as he proceeded to heal his damaged palm.

"That Chris better not be goofing off right now." Red walked up to the manor and kicked the doors off their hinges.

"Haaaraarraugghah!!!! MY BELOVED... WHO DARES?!!!" A powerful scream made the entirety of the manor tremble in its wake. Red looked down and said: "Why isn't it ever a simple task? Underground it is I guess." Red proceeded to punch through the house floor.

Christopher had slayed the vampire, after making sure that there wouldn't be anymore assassins, he contacted Azure to tell him he was headed back, he had failed to mention that he had decided to bring the entire restaurant staff including the owner Giorno to the Rosales mansion however.

A dismayed Azure couldn't help but be annoyed by this. "Who are these people? We're meant to draw attention I understand, but surely you parading to our doorstep with a bunch of restaurant staff is too much!!!!" Azure regained his breath after his outburst.

"I couldn't just leave them there, the assassin turned out to be a vicious female vampire." Azure had no choice but to relent. "So much vermin in this city, right under my nose. I'm ashamed of my incompetence." Azure felt severe shame at having lived in a city with so much corruption, all the while he was blessed by the god of heroism, it made him feel like a joke.

"My prince trusted you with his loved ones, that quite simply means you're not incompetent, far from it even. We should prepare for what may come our way." Christopher proceeded to walk inside with the restaurant crew and Giorno. Azure came to a conclusion there after, if even his rival's subordinate was taking pity on him, that must've meant that he was acting rather pathetically, with a renewed outlook on himself, Azure stepped into his home, fully ready to face anything that came his way. They all settled in, Giorno led the kitchen staff to the mansions kitchen and took it over. Christopher had gone to a guest room, leaving only Azure to scan the horizon from the mansion's main terrace.

"I knew our home was going to get raided." Azure said this with a sigh after witnessing quite a number of soldiers gathering outside his home. He then jumped down to meet the invaders head on.
