Chapter 2 - The Corvin house

The Corvin house sat quietly at the edge of Veymora, its windows softly catching the last light of day.

It looked ordinary.

A warm, joint family home.

Inside, the Corvin family lived like any other.

The father, Edward Corvin, was a man of honest hands, calloused by years of hard work.

The mother, Elena Corvin, gentle and radiant, like a flower untouched by time.

Their children:

Samuel, the elder son, twelve years old, curious and bright-eyed.

Clara, the younger daughter, eight, innocent and full of wonder.

They shared everything—meals at the same table, laughter that rose like a melody, dreams of tomorrow that seemed as certain as the sunrise.

A normal family.

A happy family.

But… that night, something flickered.

It was subtle, almost imperceptible.

A sound, barely there.

A whisper of movement.

Like… the middle of the night itself had cracked open, and something unseen had slipped inside.

The first to notice was Edward.

His eyes narrowed as he stood in the dim hallway, listening.

His footsteps slowed, cautious, deliberate.

He walked, turning corners, glancing at doors, the silence stretching heavier with each breath.

And yet, he shrugged.

A small smile tugged at his lips.

"Just the wind" he told himself.

Elena noticed the distant tension in his posture.

"What was that, love?" she asked softly, her voice carrying a hint of worry.

Edward smiled, warm but detached.

"Nothing. Just a breeze."

They shared a quiet laugh, the kind that hides uncertainty.

As if teasing fate itself.

The night moved on.

The air between them thickened, tender and fragile.

The moment turned intimate.

But the intimacy that followed was strange.

Uncertain.

Half-remembered.

Morning broke with no clarity.

Edward stirred first, feeling… off.

A strange emptiness where desire should have been.

Elena awoke with trembling hands, her mind clouded by a vague sense of wrongness.

Neither could recall the full memory of the night.

"Did we…?" she whispered, fear edging her voice.

Edward shook his head, dismissive.

"it's nothing." he said, though his eyes betrayed doubt.

Elena knelt by the window, praying softly.

Hoping.

Hoping it was all in her head.

But they were so wrong.

So…very wrong.

Because something had already taken root.

And the Corvin family's descent had begun.
