Chapter 73 - Night Time Emergency

Nyx awoke not in her bed but somewhere else…Darkness swirled around like an ocean but she could still see. Suddenly, the darkness rippled like a body of water and created an entrance. From that door came a figure covered in a star strewn veil. She imprinted her steps into the sightless, soundless void with a disturbing elegancy. Nyx tried to move but couldn't as if her body wasn't hers anymore.

The figure came closer and Nyx realized that it looked like a woman. The figure wrapped her arms around her and whispered into her ear.

"Your finally outside…oh, child who bears my name, am I so happy to meet you. I hope that you carefully tread this path or else I'll lose you…"

The figure stepped back and smiled, tilting her head. The darkness caved in, swallowing them both whole. Then, Nyx woke up from her slumber, sweat covering her face. She sat straight and recalled what just happened.

'What in the actual fuck was that?'

She held her head and gritted her teeth.

'Outside? My name? Lose me? What the hell was that?'

She lifted her head, her vision piercing the dark. She saw that the other enforcers were sound asleep.

'What time even is it?'

She fell back onto her bed, still thinking of the dream.

'I feel like I've seen her before but where…?'

She shook her head.

'Forget it. Let's go back to sleep.'

She rolled over and pulled her blanket, trying to sleep. Just as she was about to fall in a deep slumber, she felt a distortion in her surroundings. Alerted, she woke up once more but before she could do anything, a loud roar echoed throughout the camp. Ny's face paled as she realized what had befallen them.

'A chaos fragment?!'

Arthur jolted to his senses once her heard the beast's roar.

"WAKE THE FUCK UP! WE HAVE CHAOS FRAGMENT!"

He jumped out of bed and rushed out as the others woke up. He was still in his uniform just without the weighted vest which made his movements feel light. She stopped himself and opened his palm. A small bright orb appeared and grew. He raised his arm and with that, the orb lit up the area. The chaos beasts and fragments were exposed.

He saw the supreme commander and the generals rush out.

"What the hell are you shouting about…Holy mother of God!"

David's eyes widened as he saw the beasts slowly approaching from a distance.

"What class is it, anyway?" Lancelot hissed.

He pressed the earpiece and it instantly morphed into glasses. Holograms appeared in his vision as he activated the chaos measurement function. The glasses began calibrating and after a few seconds, a result was generated. Lancelot sighed and chuckled.

"The hell are you laughing about?! It's a chaos fragment!" David shouted.

"Relax…it's only beta class." Lancelot replied.

"Really? Then, I woke up for nothing?" Nyx wiped her eyes.

"It's a chaos fragment! Why are you people so calm?" David screamed.

"David, shut up. I don't want to hear another word from you." Nyx reprimanded.

David gritted his teeth as Nyx turned towards Arthur.

"It's only beta class. Do you want me to take care of it?"

Arthur blinked. "Eh?"

"I said, It's only beta class. Do you want me take care of it?"

Nyx raised her hand and ripped three beasts apart. Arthur snapped back and replied.

"No…this is a good test for my men."

Arthur rotated and called out.

"Major!"

Major who was heading back, flinched and turned around.

"Y-Yes, sir?"

"Get up here. You going to fight the fragment." Arthur urged.

"It's the middle of the night. Can we do it at a more sensible time?" Major yawned.

"I'll send to the next Delta class that spawns if you and your team don't get up here!"

Major sighed. "Hey, guys. We gotta fight the fragment."

The others who were behind him, froze and groaned.

"For real? It's like two in the damn morning." Frank replied approaching his captain.

"I'm still sleepy." Jasper yawned.

"It should be illegal to send us to fight a fragment at night." Elke stated.

They unsheathed their blades and passed the lieutenant general. Arthur locked eyes with Nyx.

"Miss, please make sure they don't die."

"You can rest assured. Death won't even touch them."

"Hey, at least the supreme commander's protecting us." Saul encouraged, overhearing their chatter.

"Focus up, guys. One's coming our way." Jasper said.

A chaos beast lunged but Major calmly used its momentum against it to stab his sword into its heart. He let the beast fall and kept moving forward.

"Stab the heart. If that doesn't kill em, slit their stomach." Major stated.

"Understood, captain." The others replied.

They spilt up and attacked beasts individually. Saul dodged one blow and pierced its heart. Jasper redirected it's struck its heart. The beast didn't fall and struck again. Major came from the shadows, cutting the beasts arm before it could hurt Jasper. Jasper grinned and slit its stomach. They nodded at each other before rushing off.

Major's pupils dilated, he could his entire surroundings. Information flooded into him like an open dam as he stabbed another monster. One of beasts approached the tents and tried to strike it down but it was ripped apart by Nyx in seconds. Frank turned invisible, avoiding the beats gaze and pierced its heart. The beast fell as he went forward, stanning another four in the heart before his attribute overwhelmed him.

Elke stepped forward. A beasts struck him but he ducked under. He went behind and struck its heart. The beast squirmed and fell down – it's body cold as ice. After a few minutes, the chaos fragment weakened enough. Without waiting, Amelia formed a circle and pushed it away. The circle stuck the fragment and it ripped violently. Then, it calmed down and disappeared as if it had never been there before.

Arthur clapped. The new enforcers fell down, exhausted as adrenaline exited their veins. Arthur approached and leaned over them with a bright smile.

"Congrats! You've passed the bar."

Major smiled. "You know what this means right, lieutenant general?"

"Of course. Tomorrow morning, I'll tell you of my attribute."
