Chapter 13 - Testing I

'Hmm,overnight observation'

"Fine" he decided.

"But I want to know everything you're doing before you do it. No surprises. And I want the results explained to me directly".

Dr. Elias nodded, apparently unsurprised by the conditions. "Completely reasonable. Medical autonomy is important, especially in situations like this".

'Who do you think you're deceiving' Levi scoffed mentally.

"When do we start?" Levi asked, resigning to his fate.

Elias glanced at his watch. "If you're ready, we can begin the initial blood work now. I'll have a room prepared for your stay".

He paused, studying Levi with those lost eyes.

In the examination room, Levi sat on a paper covered table with a tray of medical instruments nearby.

Dr. Elias entered with a nurse. She was a bit older and with a plastic smile that made Levi's face twitch.

"We'll start with blood work now" Dr. Elias pulled a latex gloves on as the procedures began as they drew samples efficiently.

"Multiple panels to check hormone levels, compatibility markers, any residual stress indicators from the mating".

Levi braced himself as the needles came closer, as he maintained his neutral expression, refusing to let his internal chaos slip.

This is why he hated hospitals. He was fully aware that the blood work was crucial but he couldn't shake off the discomfort of having someone hold a weapon to him.

His skin felt tight on his body when he noted he had even died that way.

This was stupid as it was only a hospital with a tired doctor, and an older nurse.

No one was going to hurt him.

The cool alcohol sting rushed him back to a place he hadn't asked to return to…

That room.

A light flashed across his eyes, cutting through the fuzziness. Everything in the room vanished, making him stiffen. He was back there, the tangled legs locked together, and with the agonizing weakness in his bones.

Muscle memory screamed at him to twist away, but his limbs wouldn't move, too spent and too heavy.

He caught himself waiting for the sharp sting on his throat even when all he felt was the gentle touches from the nurse pressing a cotton swab to his arm.

His hand clenched involuntarily while he was blinking the memory away.

Dr. Elias glanced at him "You alright? Some people get queasy with blood draws".

"I'm fine" Levi gritted his teeth as he forced his breathing to remain steady, even when he was the only one sweating in the room.

They collected more and more vials of blood, that made it seem un reasonable for any test, even if it wasn't normal, like this one.

"Comprehensive panel" Dr. Elias explained, as if reading his thoughts.

"We need to establish baselines for everything".

When they were done with the blood work, the physical examination began.

Dr. Elias was professional, even when it felt like an invasion, like how he examined the bite mark on Levi's neck and pressed gently against his abdomen.

"Any discomfort here?"

"No" Levi focused on picking details about the room and what was in it, while avoiding thinking about the hands mapping his borrowed body's responses.

Through the glass, he could watch Noah pace in the waiting area with his bulky frame.

After what felt like forever, he was finally left alone.

Noah walked in after having a conversation with Dr. Elias "How're you feeling"

"Like a lab rat" Levi replied honestly as he glanced up "Aren't you supposed to wait outside?"

Noah stood at the edge of the bed, as his gaze fixed on Levi with an unreadable expression.

Before Levi could say another thing, the door opened as Dr. Elias returned with a small device that looked like a high tech inhaler.

"Time for pheromone tolerance testing," he announced.

"This contains a controlled sample of Type A alpha pheromones – much milder than Type B. We'll monitor your biological responses while you're exposed to gradually increasing concentrations".

Levi stared at the device. "And if my body decides it doesn't like being pheromone-bombed?"

"That's why we start small and work up slowly. Your heart rate, blood pressure, hormone levels – everything will be monitored" Dr. Elias gestured to the various sensors the nurse was attaching to Levi's chest and arms.

"If there's any concerning reaction, we stop immediately".

The first exposure was barely noticeable, maybe just a slight change in the air he inhaled, making his omega instincts perk up slightly.

The monitoring equipment beeped softly, displaying readings that Dr. Elias focused on.

"Interesting. The levels actually decreased. Most omegas show stress spikes with unfamiliar alpha pheromones".

The second dose was more intensifying than the last, with some disgusting smell or scent according to what it's called here.

The third dose was much stronger as it triggered something unexpected in him.

Instead of submission or distress, Levi felt a wave of aggressive irritation, making the equipment beep more rapidly.
