"I... I'm sorry. I was just..." June's voice trembled in apology, but Alaric barely spared her a glance as he brushed past her, treating her like an inconvenience, as if she weren't important. And yes, unfortunately, she wasn't important to him.
He hurriedly pushed the door to my room open and made his way to my bed. He lowered me gently, his hands never leaving my body as he settled beside me. His fingers slid through the damp strands of my hair, brushing them from my face with a possessive tenderness.
"Mine..." His voice was low, almost triumphant, with a hint of amusement threading through it. "Was that too much for you to bear? Don't tell me I'm too much for you," he scoffed, his fingers still caressing my cheek in a way that sent a shiver through me.
