As they were talking, they had already reached the dormitory entrance. Principal Haihara turned his head and smiled at her. "Since it's all horse girls in the dorm, this old uncle won't go in."
"There are plenty of empty rooms, so you can pick one yourself. Once you're all settled, you can come find me in the teachers' office to do the paperwork. It's the third room on the right on the first floor of the school building." He pointed to the school building not far from the dorm.
"Get along with your classmates!" With an encouraging smile, he left.
Watching his short, stout figure walk away, she muttered to herself, "He really works hard." Of course, she hadn't been distracted by his joke. Sometimes, playing dumb is the best option. She had some respect for him for single-handedly supporting this academy. Having been through hard times herself, she could appreciate a principal like him. After just a few minutes of talking, the old academy no longer seemed so unreliable in her eyes.
She turned her gaze back to the dorm, a small building clad in wooden planks, and tightened her grip on her suitcase. It was time to go in. She hoped the horse girls here were as nice as the principal. Taking a deep breath, she walked in.
The interior was surprisingly clean. The wooden floor seemed to have just been wiped, the remaining water stains glittering in the sunlight. There was no musty smell, only the fresh scent of wood. A clean place always lifts one's spirits. Her grip on the suitcase relaxed a little. Suddenly, her ears twitched. She heard a faint humming from her right.
Curious, she walked towards the sound and saw a horse girl in an apron on all fours, humming as she wiped the floor, moving backward little by little. She was so engrossed that Celestial Weave felt bad for interrupting her. But before she could quietly slip away, the girl's tail swept against her leg.
"Waah!"
For some reason, the girl was startled. She immediately stood up and was about to bow and apologize. "I'm so sorry, I didn't notice you coming."
"I'm sorry for interrupting your humming."
Their voices overlapped by chance. Hearing a strange voice, the girl looked up in surprise. "Who are you?"
She held up her suitcase. "I'm the new transfer student. Can you tell me which rooms are empty?"
The girl seemed surprised by her. She stared for a second or two, then blushed. "O-of course! You're the transfer student Uncle Haihara was talking about! I thought he was just making it up again!"
It seemed she hadn't spoken to a new person in a long time. She chattered non-stop as she led her through the dorm. She learned that her name was Ansho Suzune, and her family used to own a shop for horse girl sports equipment. Due to the decline of local racing, they had changed their business, but she still loved to study horse girl equipment.
"TurfMaster's horseshoes are light, but they're not very durable. Our races at Kasamatsu are mostly on dirt, so DirtKing is more suitable..."
On this topic, the previously shy girl became a torrent of words, leaving Celestial Weave completely lost. She had always just used the standard equipment issued by Tracen and had never studied such things.
"That's amazing," she said sincerely. She thought that anyone who could study something to such an extent was amazing.
"Not really, it's all just theory—" Hearing the praise, Suzune scratched her head and smiled. Her short brown hair swayed with the movement. Blushing, she didn't dare to look her in the eye and turned her head. And in that moment of carelessness, she didn't notice the person in front of her and bumped right into them.
"Hey, what are you doing wandering around instead of cleaning?"
Hearing the familiar voice, Suzune trembled and stammered, unable to explain.
Celestial Weave looked up and saw that there were three horse girls in front of her. The one in the lead had long, curly blonde hair, with brown tips that showed it was dyed. She had a pretty face with delicate makeup and was nonchalantly twirling a lock of her hair with her brightly manicured fingers.
"Are you trying to slack off?"
"Just because you like to study equipment, you think you can be so arrogant?"
Two teasing voices came from behind her. One was a tall girl with short, dark blue hair, and the other was a petite girl with pink twin-tails. Hearing this, Suzune was even more scared and couldn't explain.
Seeing this, Celestial Weave frowned, stepped in front of Suzune, and faced the other girls. "She was showing me around the dorm. Is there a problem?"
Seeing her step forward, the blonde girl looked at her with some confusion and said in her usual nonchalant tone, "Who are you?"
"I'm the new transfer student."
Hearing this, the blonde girl glanced at her again, a hint of surprise in her tone. "There's a transfer student coming here? That old guy Haihara wasn't lying?"
"Is there something wrong with me being a transfer student?" Seeing that she had clearly been about to bully Suzune, her tone was not polite.
"Hmph—" She let out a noncommittal sound from her nose, glanced at her one last time, and then left with her two friends.
"I hope you still have the courage to talk like that in the future," she said vaguely, turning her back to them. "Transfer student."
"Um, thank you. Actually—" Hiding behind her, Suzune peeked out as they left and said gratefully. But Celestial Weave was frowning at their retreating figures and didn't hear her.
It seems not everyone at Kasamatsu Tracen is as easy to get along with as Suzune and the principal, she thought.
