After absorbing the memories of her new self, Celestial Weave let out a long breath.
In this scenario world, she had been adopted by an old couple and had lived with them in the countryside until now. Today was the day she would officially enroll in Tracen.
She looked up at the somewhat old school gate sign and unconsciously read its name. "Kasamatsu... Tracen Academy?"
A local branch of Tracen Academy. Looking at the old sign and the rusty gate, one could imagine that it hadn't been repaired in a long time. Combined with the system's introduction, it seemed that the Tracen of this world was in decline. The central academy might be better off, but a local branch like this was not so lucky. After all, fewer and fewer people were staying in the countryside. Everyone was rushing to Tokyo. The fact that this local academy was still open was already a testament to the efforts being made for the horse girls here.
"I didn't expect this scenario to start like this..."
"Is my plan to find a trainer going to fall through again?"
Looking at the academy before her, she sighed, a little puzzled. But she quickly cheered up. At worst, she could make a name for herself in the races later and then go to the central academy to find a trainer. For now, she should check the scenario mission.
[Scenario Mission: The Heroic Legend of the Country Horse Girl]
I. Main Objective
Gain the audience's approval.
Current Approval: (0/100)
Evaluation: An unknown horse girl
Reward: 10,000 SP + Stage Ticket x1 + Proof of the Roar
II. Phase Objectives
Defeat Orfevre head-on.
Reward: 5000 SP + Challenger's Badge
Become the champion of the Japan Derby.
Reward: 5000 SP + Flag of the Underdog
Note: This scenario world is a story-type scenario. The host will complete the mission with their original stats. After the main mission is settled, you can choose one of them to bring back to the real world.
Besides the items whose effects were still unknown, two things about this mission caught her attention.
First was the "audience approval" in the main mission. She had never seen a mission with a progress bar before and didn't know its mechanics. Would it increase by a fixed amount after each race, or would it depend on the level of the race? Or would it simply be based on the approval of the audience in this world? She shook her head, dismissing the pointless thoughts. She wouldn't get an answer just by thinking about it. She would know after a few races.
The other thing that concerned her was the type of mission. Unlike the Saint-King Halo scenario, she had retained her original stats this time, but the number of stats she could bring back to reality had been reduced from two to one. She couldn't yet determine if this was a decrease or an increase in difficulty. Like the main mission, she would have to take it one step at a time.
After confirming the mission requirements, she silently called out, "Panel."
A blue translucent screen appeared before her.
[Horse Girl Training System - Scenario Panel]
Character: Celestial Weave
Speed: B [Elite Level] [Locked]
Stamina: D+ [Rising Star Level]
Power: D [Rising Star Level]
Guts: A [Legendary Level] [Limit Broken]
Intellect: D [Rising Star Level]
Aptitude: Turf A, Dirt C
Domain: [Demon Blade / Murasame]
Skills: Intuition (Purple), Phoenix (Blue), Endurance (White)
There hadn't been much time between the two scenarios, so she hadn't had time to train her stats higher. However, since she had already reached her limits before, the speed at which she could retrain them wouldn't be too slow. She didn't know if that was a good thing or a bad thing.
As she was looking at the panel, a resonant voice suddenly came from behind her. "You must be the transfer student who's coming today!"
She turned around and saw a short, stout, middle-aged man. His hair was half-white, but his kind, smiling, round face made him look a bit younger. He pointed to her right hand and smiled. "Need a hand with your luggage?"
It was only then that she looked down and saw a suitcase by her right hand. She had been so preoccupied with the mission and the panel that she hadn't even looked around, to the point that someone had to remind her that she had brought a suitcase.
"Thank you, but I can manage," she said gratefully. If he hadn't reminded her, she might have just walked into the school without it.
"Oh! Young people are so strong these days," the man said with a sigh, having been refused.
Following her, the two of them walked into Kasamatsu Tracen. Looking at the old dormitory buildings, she asked curiously, "Are the dorms still full?"
"No way. Those buildings have been abandoned for a long time. The students all live in the dorm closest to the school building now."
"Oh."
She nodded and continued walking. After a while, she felt a strange gaze from behind her. She turned around and saw the middle-aged man looking at her with an indescribable, emotional expression, tears even welling up in his eyes.
"Um... are you okay?"
Realizing his gaffe, the man wiped his eyes, embarrassed, and said emotionally, "Sorry, it's just been a long time since I've seen a new student. I got a little excited."
Hearing this, she looked at him suspiciously. Was he a teacher here? Seeing his build and his offer to help with her luggage, she had thought he was a security guard. "Are you a teacher?"
"Something like that. I'm the principal," the man said, patting his round face proudly. "But I also teach all the subjects."
Hearing this, the suitcase in her hand almost fell from shock. It was hard to imagine that this round old man was the principal, and even harder to imagine that the school required the principal to be a teacher, and for all subjects at that.
"You don't also double as a trainer, do you?" she asked tentatively. Although she could go to the central academy to find a trainer later, if the principal was also a trainer, then the level of absurdity of this school was beyond her imagination.
"Of course not," the principal said with a hearty laugh, waving his hand.
"That's a relief..."
"The trainer is my pride and joy, my daughter!"
Before she could feel relieved for long, the principal's words made her tense up again. Looking at his round figure, she imagined a proportionally smaller female version in her mind.
Isn't this place a little too unreliable...
Although she hadn't officially enrolled yet, she was already considering transferring later.
