It was when Marshall Morgan devoured the Demon Beast Essence Blood. If he concentrated and intentionally let the bloodline fully consume the essence energy, the Spirit-Devouring Bloodline entirely absorbed that essence without leaving any energy for Marshall Morgan.
Conversely, Marshall wanted to use an entire essence's energy to enhance his cultivation, but couldn't, as the Spirit-Devouring Bloodline would absorb half of it.
In other words, he could use an entire essence to elevate his bloodline level, but not all to enhance cultivation.
