Chapter 29 - Mystery Pack!

[Warning: this Mystery Pack has 5 exclusive featured elusive legendary items among a slot of 6,000. The remaining slots are empty as a result!]

Roy frowned, but he didn't let this deter him. He was beginning to understand why the system rewarded him with so many vouchers. Without this many, he wouldn't have a chance of benefiting from these elusive packs.

Fuck it, burn 500 tokens! he commanded mentally. He still had 98,000+ tokens, so he wasn't going to be running out anytime soon.

A series of mystery boxes marked with question marks popped up in his vision. As they all began opening, his fingers crossed and his breath stifled, Roy waited hopefully for a golden tag.

But unfortunately, life was cruel. All alerts were lusterless and vacant. They were all duds.

His eyes twitched. Let's look at the bright side. I have dismissed 500 slots, 5,500 should be what is left. He tried to console his aching heart. Unfortunately, the system didn't care to give him this leeway.

[Host shouldn't be mistaken. Slots can't be canceled just because they are drawn. Only featured item slots can do that. The rest will remain active as long as featured items remain.]

Indeed, there was no way the system left such a loophole. His hands ruffled through his hair as he sighed. Burn another 500.

The screen spun once more as a sea of lifeless slots popped into view. Again, another series of duds!

Roy's heart bled. Another 500 tokens gone!

If he went on like this… He glanced at his balance. The 96,000+ sitting at the corner didn't seem that much anymore.

Previously, he had called the system a scammer because of how hard it was to draw featured items with a 53% probability. But now he realized that without boosting his probability, he wouldn't have gotten anything.

Burn another 500. This time his inner voice was more humble. The initial confident tone was nowhere to be found.

Bam!

His fists banged on the table, startling Dio at the side.

Roy's eyes trembled in helplessness as he stared at the clustered lusterless slots in his view, his eyes mirroring the vacant sheen.

B-Burn another 5… 500.

Creak!

This time his fingers dug into his armrest, his expression shifting erratically.

A-again another… 5-500.

Crackle! The entire armrest crumbled in his tight grip. He didn't seem to notice as he gazed at the sea of colorless slots. He felt like coughing up blood — 2,000 tokens so far!

Burn another… another 500. He had no choice but to proceed. He was a level three, and to survive a high-level dungeon of the likes he was venturing into would be tantamount to a death sentence with or without assistance from Vera and his weapons. He needed something more reassuring.

Unfortunately, Lady Luck and the RNG system decided to turn their backs on him today. Another series of duds…

His hands quivered, his eyes bleak. Would he really be unable to draw anything?

In his daze, he monotonously recited, B-Burn 5000. His eyes widened. "Shit!" But it was too late to take back the order, as the system did as asked, immediately dissolving 5,000 in a blink instead of the intended 500.

His eyes trembled as rows and rows of empty slots flowed into his view like a rushing river. He felt despair, not from the amount wasted, but from the fact that so far it seemed he had landed on a dud once mor—

Suddenly his thought process froze as his vision was overwhelmed by a sea of blinding gold. And just then, a mystic fruit popped into view.

A glistening but lusterless peach, its surface dark as a black hole threatening to swallow all light. But in its depths were clusters of sparks. The fruit felt heavenly, like it held an entire cosmos within its thin layers.

[CONGRATULATIONS! Host has drawn a featured item: Divine Void Enlightenment Peach — Legendary Elixir!]

Roy's thought process stilled, unprepared for this. I-I won? I WON!

His lips widened, his depression vanishing with the wind. He clicked at the info full of enthusiasm.

[Divine Void Enlightenment Peach: Legendary Elixir

Details: At the center of eternity… There resides a peach tree, its trunk wide enough to fit numerous universes, its branches as big and many as galaxies spanning across infinity. It is said that its fruit can make the mundane become divine…]

Roy read and became speechless, his initial dissatisfaction vanishing. How could he be dissatisfied?

A million JP — scrap that, zillions of all his properties combined together — wasn't even enough to purchase such an item.

[Due to the overwhelming density of divine nectar nestled within the legendary elixir, Host would be unable to consume the item in a sitting.]

[Host can only manage to drink from dew drops residing on the legendary fruit. Until Host exceeds level 100, taking a bite from the fruit is almost impossible…]

To think he would draw something so heaven-defying. He didn't dare use it for no reason, but it was too powerful.

Wait, that's not right… my first legendary draw, the inheritance stuff I gave to Richard, wasn't so staggering, he realized, feeling something wasn't right.

[Host only judges as such because the subordinate Richard Gunther is still at a low level… The original Machine Demon was a feared general of his Lord across the cosmos. Even mighty Lords dared not claim they could best him at battle, strategy, or creation. He was a being only a step short of reaching godhood!]

I see… sigh, I really am fortunate to have such a cheat system. Everything he gained from the system might seem powerful, but he was well aware in time they would begin to show even more terrifying potential. For example, all the items he had drawn so far were soul-bound with him, so as he leveled up, they would do so with him.

He could imagine how much more domineering the Crystal Crimson Drake would be when he reached level 50 and above.

His gaze shifted back to the mystery pack. There are still four more treasures to be unearthed!

Without any hesitation, he ordered, System, burn 2000!
