After Lukas finished reflecting on what had happened that day, he took up a quill and began writing.
Fors woke up to find Xio excitedly telling her that she had found an opportunity for them to advance. Fors lazily agreed. A few hours later, they met up with a viscount who told them that if they captured a slave owner who had killed his father, he would provide them with the materials to advance to Sequence 8. After hearing the offer, they both agreed. The viscount then showed them a photo of the target and the place where he was last seen. With that, Fors and Xio went back home to prepare.
When they arrived in that area, they began asking the locals if they knew the man. Some said he was the owner of a bar with a very good reputation. Upon hearing this, Xio and Fors visited the bar. They immediately went to the barista and asked about the owner. The barista said he could arrange a meeting but that it would take a few minutes. Meanwhile, they could have a drink. Xio agreed. While they waited, several men stared at them with lustful looks, but none dared to act.
After a few minutes, the barista finally returned and told them the owner was waiting in the back. When they arrived, their first impression was that the man had such a gentle smile that nobody would think he was a slave owner. After some small talk, they tried to knock him out quickly—only to realize too late that he was a Sequence 7 Beyonder. He easily subdued them both.
The next day, when they woke up, they realized they were in a cage and were soon to be auctioned off. After struggling for a while, they found they could not break free and gave up. When their turn came, only one person appeared. It seemed their captors had severely underestimated Fors and Xio. The man even freed them from their chains for reasons they couldn't understand. As they were being led away, Fors and Xio took the chance to try escaping. The man escorting them turned out to be a Sequence 8 Beyonder of the Spectator pathway. However, because he underestimated them, they managed to handle him without much trouble and slipped out through the back exit.
On their way out, they were seen by other slaves who begged to be released, but Fors and Xio didn't have time—their pursuers were already coming.
After escaping, they returned to the place where they had first met the viscount, and surprisingly, he was still there. He was shocked to see them. When they threatened him, he confessed that he had been working with the slave owner all along, luring in beautiful women. He admitted he had none of the rewards he had promised but begged them not to kill him. Fors and Xio knocked him out instead and handed him over to the police for cooperating with a slave owner.
That was a reasonable development.
After putting down the quill, Lukas smiled and looked out the window. It was already night, and a blood-red moon hung in the sky. Still smiling, he went to bed and quickly fell asleep.
