Chapter 167 - Bounty Hunter

"Wesley, wait for me!"

Cross murmured softly, pulling out a photo of Wesley from his pocket.

Back then, for the sake of the Brotherhood's mission, he had been forced to abandon his wife and child, leaving Wesley, who was still in his infancy.

Even though he would never regret that decision, no matter how much he examined his conscience, Cross always felt like he owed his son.

Now that his son had been brought into the Brotherhood, who knew how much suffering he would endure within it.

But fortunately, Cross felt that the end of his suffering was near!

With the assistance of someone suspected to be a high-ranking member of the Continental Hotel, he had already eliminated nearly half of the Brotherhood's members. Now, all the remaining ones dared only cower inside the castle, trembling with fear, without the courage to even go outside.

Cross believed that in at most half a month, he could walk right into the castle and take Wesley out.

As for Wesley's safety?

Sloan wouldn't dare kill Wesley until the very last moment. He probably still hoped to use the traitor as a hostage!

He then opened a door, glanced around, and found that all the arrangements he'd made before leaving hadn't been disturbed. Only then did Cross relax.

Although the Continental Hotel shouldn't make a move against him before the Brotherhood's downfall, it was still better to be careful.

To avoid being discovered, he'd been getting takeout from the restaurant downstairs these past few days, as using the kitchen would make too much noise.

After hastily finishing his dinner, Cross wrapped the quilt into a human shape and then crawled under the bed to sleep.

The reason he'd lived for so many years was because of his caution!

Creak!

Half-asleep, Cross was instantly jolted awake by the sound of the door being forced open. With a flick of his right hand, he already had his weapon in hand.

There were four people. Their footsteps were light, indicating they were experienced.

If he listened carefully, it seemed there were others in different directions, but he couldn't tell how many due to the walls.

Cross couldn't help but sneer inwardly. Though there were many, they were just a bunch of weaklings to him.

The Continental Hotel was full of this kind of trash. No wonder they were defenseless against the Brotherhood.

The four assassins who had sneaked in pushed open the door and opened fire on the bed. The sound of rapid gunfire made Cross want to laugh.

He had been worried the Continental Hotel would kill him to silence him, but it seemed his worries were completely unfounded!

It's true that sparring with top-tier experts every day has given me a skewed view of the world. With these guys? Honestly, even if I just sat there and let them try to kill me, they wouldn't stand a chance.

Unfazed, he tore off a piece of gum and popped it into his mouth. Only then did Cross leisurely slide out from under the bed, and in the shocked gazes of the four rookies, he sent them all to meet their maker.

Hearing the commotion, the others rushed in from the next room. Facing this group of headstrong, brute-force types, Cross felt he could easily open another bottle of wine.

Shaking his wrist with casual ease, the two assassins around the corner hadn't even had time to peek out before they were taken down with direct shots.

The Continental Hotel received a bounty order. Someone was offering twenty million US dollars to assassinate Cross, a former member of the Brotherhood, with the location helpfully provided.

The bounty was snatched up in an instant. All the registered assassins at the Continental Hotel on the US East Coast went wild.

Don't let the assassins' daily comings and goings, their mysterious airs, and their seemingly high-class image fool you. They're basically a bunch of broke individuals.

Mr. X, as the Brotherhood's top expert, had only earned three million US dollars in his entire life!

After all, most of the assassins take on jobs worth only a few hundred thousand. If a job reached millions or tens of millions, the hotel wouldn't dare post it, and even if they did, no one would dare accept it.

The simplest logic applies: if a Middle Eastern country offered a hundred million US dollars for the US President's head, would the Continental Hotel dare to take the job?

Besides, even if you somehow managed to complete the mission, surviving against all odds, how would you even collect the money?

Would you go to the government to ask for it?

You'd probably be shot by the army before you even opened your mouth.

So, upon seeing the twenty-million-dollar bounty, all the assassins immediately rushed out, afraid that someone else would snatch the money if they were a step behind.

Even though Cross was quite famous in the assassin world, no amount of fame could compare to real money.

For two hundred million, Sloan could sell out the Brotherhood, which had existed for thousands of years. A twenty-million-dollar bounty on Cross's head was already a sky-high price!

He killed a dozen or so of the most reckless young assassins in one go, and the remaining assassins all huddled in the corners, holding their breath, not daring to move.

Everyone initially thought that with so many of them, Cross, no matter how skilled, was still just one person and could easily be gunned down.

But now it seemed that idea was incredibly naive!

They couldn't form an effective attack at all. The narrow corridor severely hampered their coordinated efforts, rendering their numerical advantage useless.

Cross slowly retreated towards the window. The trash outside might not be much, but there were certainly too many people.

At least forty people were blocking the exit, so he decided to make a strategic retreat.

Below the window was a billboard. Using it, he could drop directly onto the awning below. A motorcycle was parked beneath the awning, and in just three seconds, he could be gone.

However, just as Cross stood up to jump out the window, he suddenly felt a sense of danger.

He quickly dove to the side, and a bullet whizzed past his back, impacting the wall.

"Missed!"

Jill, lying on the window across the street, said with some frustration.

Even though her marksmanship was already considered outstanding among ordinary people, she was still somewhat inferior when facing a master like Cross.

Although Sloan had sent over all the training methods for Bullet Time, it was impossible to master a skill in a short amount of time.

She didn't have a system!

"It's okay, I reckon the effects of the medicine should be kicking in about now!" Li Qingyuan stood behind her and gently patted Jill's shoulder, offering encouragement.

Originally, he wanted to see if pitting Jill against a master like Cross could stimulate her potential, but now it seemed that away from the Resident Evil world, Jill's protagonist aura had run out of credit.

Cross, lying on the ground, immediately began searching for a mirror, wanting to see where the enemy was hiding.

Since the sneak attack didn't kill him, he could only wait to be killed!

Using the broken glass, Cross immediately located Jill. He steeled himself, preparing to stand up and kill her.

But just as he was about to get up, he felt a wave of dizziness!
