The group stormed through the underground base like a battering ram.
Jill and Claire, the two fierce women, led the way. Any enemy daring to show themselves didn't even get a chance to strike—they were instantly sent to meet the grim reaper!
Even if a small squad tried to resist using the terrain, Li Qingyuan effortlessly took them down with a single missile.
There was no denying it—the missiles from Stark Industries packed a punch. Coupled with his unscientific modifications, the Umbrella Corporation's barricades were utterly useless.
From the moment they entered the base, less than an hour had passed, and they had already reached the core control room.
The few remaining special forces soldiers cowered outside the door. They dared not fight, nor could they escape.
Back in peaceful times, if Umbrella proved unreliable, at least one could run and maybe cover up a misstep.
But since the T-virus outbreak, even low-level operatives had miniature control implants. Defying orders meant instant death by the controller.
This explained why later on, minor henchmen had no choice but to rush in against the protagonist—even knowing they'd die immediately.
If they were truly fearless, they wouldn't be cannon fodder to begin with.
"I have a feeling the control room is just ahead!" Jill raised an eyebrow as she looked at the closed door, smiling.
Not just her—the others grinned as well, especially the side characters, A and B.
They had come expecting certain death, but now, without even firing a shot, they had won effortlessly. The ease of their victory was almost unbelievable.
Of course, their success was mainly because they avoided the usual route. If they had followed Dr. Isaacs' designed path, none of them would have reached this floor.
Realizing they had so simply captured Umbrella's underground base, everyone felt a strange sense of pride.
The special forces outside had no idea what to do. Seeing the intruders slowly coming into view, they didn't even have the courage to fire.
Not firing would buy a few more seconds of life; firing would mean instant death.
"Now die immediately, or wait a few seconds before dying?"
A true test of human nature.
"Watch out!" Li Qingyuan, walking in the middle, suddenly sensed a murderous aura from the front. He raised his suitcase to block the attack.
At the same time, Jill and Claire immediately dodged to the sides.
Though they disliked Li Qingyuan's use of system skills, they were aware of his protagonist aura and were equally vigilant.
A massive force surged from the front. Even with the suitcase blocking, Li Qingyuan was blasted backward, flipping through the air for over ten meters before landing.
Only the two women, having dodged in time, were unharmed. Carlos and side characters A and B all took injuries.
Side character A seemed to have broken a leg, while side character B hit his head. Carlos spat blood but quickly got back up.
But when he saw the culprit, he dropped his gun in fright.
"Alice?"
Not just him—Jill also stared in shock at the creature on the ground.
It was a grotesque monster: the right half a naked female, muscular and explosive, while the left half resembled a crawling creature, all limbs twisted into monstrous, insect-like segments.
Two extremes on one body—its eerie appearance made everyone's skin crawl.
"Hiss!"
The monster Alice flicked out her tongue, dragging an unlucky victim over and biting down.
Upon appearing, she had used psychic attacks on the intruders, killing none of them but instantly annihilating the remaining combatants.
In her mind, there was no concept of teammates—only killing all the beings in front of her mattered.
"Alice? Is that you?" Jill stared at the monster, unable to accept the sight of her friend transformed into this.
"Back!" Li Qingyuan sprinted forward and grabbed Jill just as she tried to approach the monster.
'Hiss!'
The creature flung its head, and its flowing blond hair lashed toward them. Li Qingyuan pulled Jill down, the hair brushing against his back.
"Bang! Bang!"
Claire fired at the monster. Jill and Carlos hesitated, seeing someone they considered a friend, but Claire had no such attachment.
Bullets tore holes in the monster, but her regenerative abilities made them heal instantly.
Even in a world with tech inferior to Marvel's, Umbrella's bioengineering was unmatched.
Claire's attack clearly enraged the monster. Alice shut her eyes, then snapped them open.
A force surged toward Claire. Despite her best efforts, she was thrown into a wall, vomiting blood upon impact.
The protagonist aura was evidently graded. Even though this was just an Alice clone, she had only a subpar version, while Li Qingyuan wielded a true protagonist aura. Claire was immediately overwhelmed.
"Go!"
Monster Alice was about to finish off Claire, but a black mist suddenly appeared in front of her.
Instinctively, she raised her claw, tearing through the mist, only to be met with a massive burst of fire.
'Boom!'
An explosion rocked the air. Li Qingyuan grabbed Jill and pulled her back, also rescuing Claire from the wall.
"Alice… how could you become like that?" Jill couldn't believe her eyes. Seeing her closest friend turned into a monster was unbearable.
"That's not Alice—it's just a bioweapon created by Umbrella!" Li Qingyuan patted Jill's cheek gently. Her fighting strength was still needed.
The Alice creature had been heavily injected with the T-virus. Who knew how many more were in the base?
He was just a mage—without help, encountering even two of these monsters would have been disastrous.
