Grace's POV
"Completely erased from memory?" Carlos's genuine shock at my words was obvious—I could tell my cold tone caught him off guard, so different from the vulnerable woman I'd been moments before.
Not that he seemed to mind the shift.
If anything, the sudden change in my demeanor appeared to fascinate him.
"Exactly. I want her wiped from everyone's mind, including our mother's," I stated firmly. "You know how much I adore my mother. Even with our complicated relationship, she's always been my role model as a woman. She's the one who showed me how to endure whatever life throws at you."
"That's why I need to shield her," I pressed on. "I want her golden years to be peaceful, free from any worry about Amara."
"...you realize your demand makes no sense, right?" Carlos challenged me. "Your mother clearly favors Amara—how could any mother erase her beloved child from her thoughts?"
A smile played across my lips.
