Chapter 15 - Chapter 15 : Curiosity Kills The Cat

"If you're enjoying His Deadly Obsession: Hunted by the Mafia Boss, don't forget to support it with Power Stones and gifts! Your support means everything."

Detective Mike followed behind more composedly, though a faint smile tugged at his lips. Just before stepping out, he paused and turned to Enzo. "You're his assistant, right?" he asked with quiet curiosity.

"Yes," Enzo replied, his tone even as he shut the office door behind him. The heavy thud echoed through the hallway.

Detective Mike's sharp eyes stayed on him. "Where were you and your boss last Wednesday, between six to ten at night?"

"We were already inside the private jet," Enzo answered smoothly. "My boss had an urgent business trip to Italy that required his personal attention."

"Any witnesses to confirm that? Detective Mike asked."

"Yes." Enzo's voice remained steady. "The pilot and my boss's associates — including the same man who left the office with him earlier. They were all with us."

Detective Mike nodded slightly, observing him closely. "I see. And if we need to verify—?"

"You can ask the pilot who flew the jet," Enzo interrupted politely, handing him a slip of paper. "Here's the hangar address. Now, if that's all, my boss is waiting."

Without another word, Enzo turned and walked away, his polished shoes clicking against the marble floor.

Detective Mike's gaze lingered on Lorenzo's retreating figure. He's trained to keep his composure, he thought silently before heading out with Detective Wilson, whose expression was as dark as a storm cloud.

From her hiding spot near the corridor corner, Olivia had seen everything. Her hands trembled slightly at her sides as she watched the detectives leave. From the look on detective Mike's face, she could tell they hadn't found anything to link Lorenzo to Reporter Joe's murder.

It seemed she would have to visit the precinct herself, determination flashing in her eyes. She needed to know exactly what they had discovered.

Meanwhile, outside the building, Lorenzo and Dominic entered their sleek black car. The driver remained silent, not daring to breathe too loudly.

After a long pause, Dominic finally turned to Lorenzo, his deep voice breaking the silence. "Boss… were you involved in the case the detectives were talking about earlier?" His tone was heavy, uncertain.

"If I remember correctly, that night last week—you disappeared for a while, and when you came back, you came through the underground passage." He looked straight at Lorenzo, curiosity flickering in his eyes.

Lorenzo, who had been resting with his eyes closed, suddenly turned and fixed his cold gaze on Dominic. The sharpness in his eyes made Dominic instantly lower his head, not daring to meet them.

"Dom," Lorenzo said, his voice calm but dangerous. "Do you remember what you told me the day you joined me in building this family?"

Dominic swallowed hard before answering. "You told me you had a grudge with some people back in New York — and that when the time came to settle it, I shouldn't interfere."

"Good." Lorenzo's lips curved into a faint, humorless smile. "I'm glad you remember."

He leaned back again, closing his eyes briefly before speaking, his tone turning colder. "I received news today — the second boss of the Shadow Wolves somehow got wind that we plan to intercept their next shipment. You know what that means, don't you?"

Dominic's face darkened. "There's a spy among us," he said quietly, his earlier curiosity gone, replaced by grim focus.

"Exactly." Lorenzo opened his eyes again, his voice low and steady. "That's why I changed the plan. This time, I'll be joining the mission myself."

Dominic blinked in surprise, but one look at Lorenzo's expression told him not to argue. "Yes, boss. The others are already waiting at the hideout."

"Good."

Just then, Enzo entered the car and closed the door quietly behind him. "Boss," he said in a low voice, "it seems the other detective… he's starting to suspect something."

Lorenzo's eyes lifted slowly to meet Enzo's, a faint, cold smile curling at the corner of his lips. "Let him suspect," he said softly. "Curiosity kills the cat. If he becomes a problem, he will have to be removed," he added in a cold voice.

His words made the car fall silent. Lorenzo's voice was cold as he said, "What are you waiting for? Do you need me to help you start the car?"

"No, Boss," the driver stammered, his voice trembling. He immediately started the car. Around them, engines roared to life as ten sleek black sports cars pulled out of the Empire Daily News building in unison. The convoy moved like shadows through the city — silent, powerful, untouchable.

By the time they arrived at the hidden base, the sun had begun to sink, painting the sky in shades of crimson and gold. As Lorenzo stepped out of the car, his shoes met the ground with a firm thud.

He wore a black dragon mask, only his lower lip visible beneath it. The moment he straightened to his full height, the entire mafia family dropped to one knee, bowing their heads in unison.

"Boss!" they shouted together, their voices thundering through the air.

Lorenzo didn't respond right away. His gaze swept across the crowd, his presence alone enough to silence even the whispers of the wind.

"Stand," he commanded at last, his voice low and authoritative as he strode toward the assembled men. The men immediately stood up and obeyed his command the moment they heard his voice. Dominic and Enzo followed closely behind Lorenzo , their gazes sharp and watchful.

Among the group, Paola's gaze lingered on Lorenzo, her eyes reflecting both admiration, love and fear.

After a few moments of quiet tension, Lorenzo finally spoke, his voice cold and unwavering.

"You all heard my orders. If anyone dares to make a mistake tonight," his tone turned razor-sharp, "they'll be punished according to our rules."

The air grew heavy. No one dared to speak. "Understood?" Lorenzo said in a cold, measured voice.

"Yes, boss!" the gang shouted again in perfect unison.

A faint smirk curved Lorenzo's lips beneath the dragon mask.

"Good," he said. "Let's begin."

"Dominic," Lorenzo's deep voice cut through the underground air like steel. "Call the names of those who'll join you to seize The Obsidian Brotherhood's shipment in Brooklyn. The rest will stay behind and guard ours in New York."

"Yes, boss." Dominic opened his notebook and began listing names with firm precision. "Pietro, Rafael, Antonio, Marco…"

Within moments, two separate groups stood ready — one for offense, one for defense.

Paola's face darkened when she realized she'd been assigned to stay back in New York. She wanted to protest, but one cold glance from Lorenzo froze her words in her throat.

Lorenzo turned to Enzo, resting a firm hand on his shoulder. "I'm trusting you with the New York shipment. Don't let the police catch a scent. This deal is too important to lose."

"Yes, boss," Enzo said quickly, his tone steady though his eyes showed concern. "Just… be careful. If there's really a spy among us, tonight's mission could be dangerous."

Lorenzo gave a cold, knowing smile. "Don't worry. I already know who's leaking information."
