Chapter 61 - Chapter 61

Let's reach 600 Power Stones for an extra chapter

Ice spreads across the deck, encasing everything in a crystalline prison. SHIELD agents scramble for cover, their weapons useless against the champion-level Digimon. I can hear their shouts of panic, the crunch of boots on ice, and the creaking of the ship as it groans under the strain.

"Incoming!" someone yells.

A second Ice Blast slams into the ship, breaching the hull. A torrent of freezing water erupts from the hole, flooding the lower decks. The ship lists dangerously to one side.

"We're taking on water!" another agent shouts.

The situation is deteriorating rapidly. I glance around, assessing the chaos. The deck is too slick, too unstable to release Agumon, Gabumon, Gatomon, or BlackGatomon. One wrong step, and they would all be sliding into the icy depths. I could also get electrocuted from Gatomon and BlackGatomon's attack. No, I need a different approach.

"MailBirdramon!" I shout, summoning the mechanical bird. "Let's go!"

With a burst of light, MailBirdramon materializes beside me, its metallic wings glinting in the dim light. I quickly activate the Digi-Boots and leap onto its back, gripping onto the edges of its wings for dear life.

"Alright, feather duster," I say, my voice tight with adrenaline. "Time to show this sea snake what we're made of!"

MailBirdramon screeches in response, then launches into the air. We soar above the chaos, the wind whipping through my hair as we circle the Seadramon. The creature hisses, its eyes following our movements. It is preparing another Ice Blast. Not on my watch!

"Plasma Cannon!"

MailBirdramon doesn't hesitate. It opens its beak and unleashes a concentrated blast of plasma, which is a searing bolt of energy that collides with Seadramon's scales. The plasma flares, but Seadramon seems unfazed. The attack barely scratches the surface.

"Damn it," I mutter. "That's not good."

Seadramon retaliates, unleashing another Ice Blast. I yell, and MailBirdramon swerves. The beam narrowly misses us, and we dodge a watery grave.

MailBirdramon banks sharply, then dives toward the Seadramon, using speed and agility. We weave through the air, avoiding the serpent's snapping jaws and flailing tail. I feel the heat of MailBirdramon's jets, and I hang on. The mechanical bird swoops in close, then releases a barrage of bombs from its undercarriage.

"Nighthawk!"

The bombs explode against Seadramon's hide, sending plumes of water and smoke into the air. For a moment, the serpent is obscured, but then it bursts through the cloud, its eyes burning with rage.

The battle is joined.

MailBirdramon and Seadramon clash in a dance of metal and scales, energy and ice. MailBirdramon uses aerial agility to evade Seadramon's attacks. Seadramon is trapped in the water, using its powerful Ice Blast to disrupt the aerial assault.

"Trident Tail!"

MailBirdramon spins and dives, its trident tail aimed straight at Seadramon's head. The tail strikes true, impacting with a metallic clang. But it is to no avail. Seadramon shakes its head and retaliates with Ice Blast. MailBirdramon flies upwards and narrowly dodges the attack. The battle rages on. It is evenly matched, neither side able to gain an advantage. We need to do something different.

MailBirdramon and I need to change tactics. I think it is time I joined the party, and mixed it up a little. It is about time I did some battling myself.

I access the Evolution app on the Digivice, and then I select the Human Spirit of Thunder.

Text appears on the Digivice. [Spirit Evolution]

This is it.

"Execute! Spirit Evolution!"

The world shimmers. My body shifts, and a tingling sensation courses through every cell. First, my form turns into a wireframe silhouette, a ghostly outline of data shimmering against the backdrop of the stormy sky.

Then, screens of data flood my vision, an array of complex code and schematics overlaying the emptiness. The armor, a vision of blue and yellow that embodies the Human Spirit of Thunder, materializes behind and in front of my wireframe self. The air crackles with static electricity as the digital armor rotates, aligning itself with my form. I can taste ozone.

The screens converge. The data coalesces. The armor begins to fuse with my being. The process is intense, overwhelming. I can feel my bones reshape, my muscles surge, my skin harden into an armored shell. Blue and yellow plates snap into place, encasing me in a beetle-like exoskeleton. The air around me vibrates with a low, electric hum. Lightning flickers in the distance.

The transformation peaks, and the screens dissipate, leaving me standing on MailBirdramon's back, larger and more powerful than before. My hands are now oversized, ready to deliver a wrestler-style beatdown. A long horn crowns my head. Wing-like armor plates fold across my back. I can feel the surge of electrical energy coursing through my body, the magnetic field crackling around me. I feel like I can fly.

"Beetlemon!"

My voice booms, amplified and distorted by the armor. The sound reverberates across the water, silencing the chaos. Even Seadramon pauses, its eyes widening in surprise.

I don't waste the opportunity. I rocket off MailBirdramon's back and aim myself at the serpent. Electricity crackles as I fly, and I launch myself at Seadramon. My fist connects with its snout in a move I saw on TV, and it recoils, a geyser erupting where I made contact. The sea beast tumbles back into the ocean.

"How's that!" I yell, feeling the full magnitude of Beetlemon's power.

It is amazing! All this time, I was just the guy sending his Digimon into danger, but now I'm a powerhouse. It's time I started getting my hands dirty, myself. This raw strength flows through my circuits, ready to be unleashed. I can definitely get used to this. I can fight alongside my Digimon now! It is so awesome!

Seadramon surfaces. He glares at me, its eyes slits of hatred. I can see the water droplets fall from his face. I can feel him staring at me. I can hear the waves crashing on the ship.

"What's wrong, sea serpent? Can't handle a little thunder? How about I turn up the voltage?"

I charge toward it again, the electric current intensifying around me. This time, the power is all mine.
