The weather was somewhat colder today when I— we— stepped out of the house and got into Jarek's car, and maybe it was due to my shivering but Maya wrapped her arms around my shoulder protectively, her warmth seeping through my thick coat as we marched through my snow-covered lawn.
The drive was to the hospital was quiet, save for Maya's continuous chatter filling the car and as soon as we got off the car in our arrival at the hospital's parking lot, I nearly halted in my tracks when I was met with familiar pairs of hostile blue eyes— my birth mother's, father's, Chalice's and Gavin's; And while their gazes held nothing but contempt for me— well, besides Gavin who was openly ogling at Maya— I could barely return it.
"What is she doing here?" I heard my father ask, his tone dripping with disdain; and while that should've not bothered me, it did… a little.
It just went far to show how deep his contempt for me ran.
