Chapter 269 - Chapter 269: How to deal with Bad Student?

"Mm… w-what do you think you're doing?"

Snapped out of the surprise attack, Mafuyu Kirisu braced both hands and shoved Hayashi Maki away.

She'd only wanted to check if he'd gotten hurt because of her clumsiness—never imagined he'd shamelessly steal a kiss.

Hayashi Maki smiled at her. "Nothing much. You leaned in too close, and I couldn't help myself."

"Do you have a death wish!"

Mafuyu glanced around, cheeks burning, and glared at him. "If someone sees us, I'm finished!"

One rumor of a teacher–student affair and her career would be over.

"Relax—no one saw." Hayashi Maki chuckled and, with wandering hands, slipped an arm around her waist.

"Hands off. If you're fine, get back to class!"

She slapped away his thieving hand and shot him a mortified death-stare—then bolted, feeling that if she didn't run now, this menace would push even further.

Watching her flustered retreat, Hayashi Maki unconsciously licked his lips.

Back in the office, Mafuyu received a message.

Hayashi Maki: "Thanks for the treat, Kirisu-sensei. I'm very satisfied."

Mafuyu's face turned crimson—out of anger. She fired back:

Mafuyu: "Stuff your 'thanks'! You rotten brat—shameless! Vulgar!"

Head pounding. She couldn't beat him in a fight. If she scolded him, he took it as praise. She couldn't avoid him either—she still had to teach here. They were bound to meet.

Face down on the desk, she touched her lips, cheeks hot, eyes conflicted.

So what should she do? How do you correct a student like this? If it goes on, won't he end up hurting society—and other women? And he's a flirt…

No matter how she thought about it, she couldn't come up with a way to set him straight. If anything, the urge to avoid him just got stronger.

Mafuyu had never even dated. She'd been a promising figure-skating hopeful once, but gave it up to become a teacher—never so much as held a boy's hand. And now this delinquent student of hers was hugging and kissing her—just thinking about it made her burn with shame.

While she stewed, another message arrived.

Hayashi Maki: "Sorry, Kirisu-sensei. I've reflected very deeply."

She frowned. After last time, she no longer believed this brat would ever reflect. Sure enough, his next line exposed his shamelessness:

Hayashi Maki: "I should've held you and not let you go. Then we could've kept being affectionate a while longer."

Mafuyu: "I'm calling the police! These messages are evidence!"

Hayashi Maki: "Oh."

His reply made her face flush red, then white.

Mafuyu: "You're really not afraid at all?"

She couldn't understand—what kind of student isn't afraid of a teacher, or the police?

Hayashi Maki: "If being close to you is the price, getting arrested is worth it. I wouldn't regret it, so I'm not afraid."

Reading what was basically a confession, Mafuyu's heart gave an involuntary flutter. She thought of him pinning her to the wall before, the heat of it…

"Aaagh! Mafuyu Kirisu, stop it—you're his teacher!"

Shaking her head hard to fling away the shameful thoughts, she typed through gritted teeth:

Mafuyu: "Shameless! Rogue!"

Hayashi Maki: "Aside from being jealous, petty, and very possessive, I'm actually pretty decent. Kirisu-sensei, want to try going out with me?"

She couldn't help rolling her eyes.

Mafuyu: "You don't have any 'decent' parts left! And how many girlfriends do you have already? Asking me that—don't you feel thick-skinned?"

Hayashi Maki: "Oh, right—very thick-skinned!"

Mafuyu: "You… just shut up and go study. I'm done with you!"

This little menace had completely ruined her prep mood.

Hayashi Maki: "Alright, see you later."

Mafuyu: " … "

Who wants to "see you later"? Not seeing you would be best!

Head on the desk, eyes watery. She was so frustrated. No mood to teach, brain a mess. Calling the cops was impossible—she didn't want to end her career. So there was nothing she could do?

Biting her lip, she took a deep breath. She'd talk to Shiina Mahiru again—have her keep her boyfriend in line. Putting hands on a teacher—what is that supposed to be?

After teasing Mafuyu by text, Hayashi Maki happily put away his phone, pulled out his textbook, and started previewing the lesson.

Play is play, but don't treat studying like a joke. He still had to keep top grades—then Mafuyu would have no grounds to accuse him of slacking off. Also, Yukino-chan was gunning to beat him and Mahiru for first in the year. He wasn't ready to surrender the throne; that'd give him a good excuse to "tutor" her. Oh—and right now Ako probably needed the most tutoring… though did she really?

Catching Ako—beaming, sugar-sweet, gazing his way—he sighed. Forget it. Don't make extra trouble for yourself. Her head wasn't on studying anyway.

The bell rang. Next up was Shizuka Hiratsuka's Japanese class. Everyone sat up straight to avoid a scolding.

After class, Yumiko Miura came over blushing, staring straight at him.

"Maki-kun~"

Her coy tone sent a tingle through his heart.

He smiled at her. "What's up, Yumiko? Need a hand with something?"

Yumiko waved her hands. "Not me—Yui. Her grades have dipped a bit and she's falling behind, so she wants to organize a study session."

"Yui, huh? How about we do a cram session this weekend?"

"Mm, this weekend!" Getting his yes, Yumiko returned to her seat happily.

Then he noticed Ako Tamaki puffing her cheeks, shooting him jealous looks—and keeping a wary eye on Yumiko. He couldn't help but laugh. This "wife" sure gets jealous. No big deal—he'd find a moment to soothe her. Ako was relatively easy to coax.
