"There's someone we need to see," Alexander said three days after Emily presented her research on Seraphina. "Someone who can tell us exactly what my mother is capable of when someone tries to possess what she wants."
Emily looked up from the files she'd been studying. "Who?"
Alexander's expression was grim. "My grandfather. Alistair Drake."
Emily stared at him. "Your grandfather? I thought he died years ago."
"That's what everyone thinks." Alexander moved to the windows, his silhouette dark against Hong Kong's skyline. "The truth is more complicated. He's alive, but he's been in a maximum-security psychiatric facility for the past twenty-three years. My mother had him committed after—" He stopped, his jaw clenching. "After she made an example of him."
"What did she do?" Emily asked quietly.
