Leo looked from room to room, scanning it to look for any trace of Ava. When he found none, he motioned to Dave. As Dave shot fire into yet another room, Leo stormed ahead, turning the corner. He ran into a middle aged man with thinning black hair. He grabbed the man by his collar before the man could react. "Where is the firing range?!" He shook the man back and forth.
The man kicked at Leo, managing to push Leo back and free himself. The man fell to the floor, scrambling to get up as he grabbed the radio on his shoulder. "MAYDAY! WE NEED FIRE CONTROL! THE MUTANTS HAVE STORMED BUNKER 16-" Leo brought his sword down on the man's hand, grabbing the radio from him. The man cried out as Leo stomped on his back before grabbing him by the neck.
"You aren't calling for help." Leo snapped. "So you can tell me where the firing range is, or I'll throw you into the flames." Leo slammed him against a wall next to the doorway of a burning room.
"It's in the general's base! Two lefts and a right then up the tunnel ¼ a mile north down the hatch under the fake rubble opened by pulling a rope behind the bookshelf and then the next right please don't kill me!" He quickly directed. Leo paused… He did not think it would be that easy. Turns out humans value their life more than he thought. Leo brought his sword into a circle, summoning a portal. He tossed the human through, closing the portal.
"Keep burning." Leo instructed Dave. "Hold on to any humans you find to be put in the dungeon. I'm finding Ava."
"Leo!" Mikey ran in from behind them. Not going to lie to himself, he had forgotten Mikey was there. "What are you doing?!"
"Raiding a bunker?" Leo answered.
Mikey grabbed his arm. "It's not necessary to burn it down! People could get really hurt!"
"Humans could come back to the bunker if we leave it as it is!" Leo pointed out.
"Leo, just look at yourself! You stabbed that poor man in the hand, probably broke his back, and just sent him away! You're burning down an entire bunker and not even searching every room! Just the ones in this hallway! What happens when the fire spreads?!" Mikey asked. "Innocent humans will die! Humans like April and Av-"
"THIS IS WAR MIKEY!" Leo snapped, shoving Mikey off his arm. "People die in war! Innocent or evil, they all die! They're all guilty in war, and they will all die. They've done the same with us, remember? Huesos's, big mama's hotel, everything! They cleared it out and burned the buildings."
"So what? We're just doing as they do? Becoming the monsters we say they are?" Mikey countered.
"Yes." Leo answered coldly. He stormed ahead. He wasn't a monster… right? No, he was doing this for Ava. To save her. Yet a spark of doubt flickered in his mind. Was this necessary? Was Mikey right? Leo quickly snuffed out the idea. Yes, it was. No, he wasn't.
Leo did as the human said, taking two lefts, a right, and then he came to a large vertical tunnel. Why was it so tall? Leo's best guess was it led all the way from the hidden city to the surface. But it could at least have a pulley system or something. Someone could fall and get seriously hurt! Leo twirled his sword, supponing a portal at the top facing the bars of the ladder, summoning the entrance portal in front of him. He reached out, his hands finding the bars and then his feet before he pulled his body through. He opened the hatch, climbing out. It had been a few months since he had been up here, and yet not much had changed. He continued forward, hoping it was north. Sure enough, he found an abandoned building with a rope hanging from the top. Leo tugged on it, causing styrofoam rubble to be lifted up. Below was a hatch. Leo summoned his swords, throwing one to the bottom and teleporting to it.
He got up, seeing a door at the end of a hallway. Why not just have the tunnel lead straight to the door? Humans, they made no sense. Leo walked to the door opening. And inside, he saw Baxter Stockboy, with a gun as he pointed it to Ava. And the part that caught his attention was Baxter's finger pulling the trigger.
